LSU is #6 overall according to 247’s combined High School/Portal classes. ND finished #8 overall. Kelly has been at LSU for two months, had to hire his entire staff, solidify LSU’s commitments, and do it with several weeks of dead period and Bama, A&M, UGA, etc breathing down his neck. 
Whether you like him or not that is a remarkable job.

They didnt even finish in the top10 in high school recruits. This is solely due to the transfer portal. That depends on the quality of players that are leaving their programs and going to LSU. Most, not all, players who transfer couldnt get the starting job and their rankings are based on their high school evaluation some of the time (Example: Jordan Johnson would be listed as a 5* transfer). 

LSU's high school recruiting class is nowhere near where it should have been.

As for the classes themselves, look at the quality of players and people can comment on which class they prefer:

LSU - 89.94 player average (13th best in the country)
1 - 5* player
10 - 4* players,
16 - 3* players

ND - 91.78 player average (5th best in the country)
1 - 5* players
17 - 4* players (All-American safety is part of this group)
4 - 3* players (includes the #1 punter in the country)

He had to hit the portal for depth reasons and did it. He landed a 4 star DB and a 5 star LB yesterday and my friend recruiting the Portal now matters whether you realize it or not. He did all this in 2 months with a new staff and 3 weeks of dead period. You can hate him but he also recruited most of ND’s class as well. The man put together the 6th best overall class in the country and believe it or not Portal players count and will be playing. Deal with it.

I don’t know who Elder is but I stand by what I said and 247 does as well. In today’s recruiting you can’t ignore Portal recruiting.  This is why there is an overall combined ranking. LSU is #6 and ND is #8. Fact.

They do sound like Elder a bit...

LSU not landing a top 10 class is what is more surprising than LSU able to get a few transfers.

Well portal matters. You can’t act like it isn’t part of every class on the country. Do you think Caleb Williams going to USC doesn’t matter because he was in the Portal? It is part of recruiting nowdays. Period.

Believe it or not I am a fan of both LSU and ND. They are my two favorite college teams. I am also a realist and acknowledging what Brian Kelly has done in such a short time. It is a hell of a job. Would be interesting to see if it also took into account transfers leaving.

For ND it is Joe Montana. Hands down.

For LSU it was Patrick Peterson but now Joe Burrow has edged ahead.

I am not mad just stating facts.  I have not been ugly to anyone. I simply put up 247 rankings and had some say it was irrelevant which it isn’t. That is not mad. Simply factual. I think Brian Kelly did a great job in a very challenging situation and timeline. If some don’t for whatever reason that is their opinion but LSU is still #6 overall and it was a good job by BK. Simple as that.
