Posted January 2, 20222 yr comment_743104 In the Bowl Game he very much acted like an Interim coach. Think Kent Baer very excited, play hard players love him down assistant coaches Now he acts as head coach, he'll hire a full staff, have a full year to prepare, It might be the same or might be different but I'm willing to give him a chance. Swarbrick shoulda named an interim coach and let Freeman coach the defense in the bowl game.

Or because of the coaching carousel but because more and more talent will sit. I know it seems a stretch but when you lose a close game like yesterday without your top 5 draft pick safety you have to wonder if you win if he is in. One or two great safety plays and we walk away with the win. I digress, though. If we hadn’t hired Freeman he would be gone but I have to wonder if we would have made the offer if we had seen yesterday’s performance ahead of time.

Freeman should not have been asked to Coach Kelly's Bowl game

I don’t think it happened anywhere else. Did Kelly coach the year we fired Weis? Or did we end up turning down a bowl game?

January 2, 20222 yr Author comment_743126 Brent Venables did not coach Oklahoma's Bowl game for reference. Bob stoops did.

Hiring Freeman makes him the head coach not the defensive coordinator. You can't do both jobs well. Elston helped call plays in 2016 and Kelly passed on him in favor of Elko
