OKelleyIrish
What are your 5-10 thoughts on the game.... Just popping in to start the thread up. Still running around like a chicken with it's head caught off... so will keep it short..... Offense did enough. 28 points... We gave up on the run too soon IMO. We missed Kyren OL looked bad at times.... We needed more slants like the one to Austin late for the TD. Defense let us down IMO.... Not sure if Freeman took back play calling after the melt down, but looked like he did. Hope you all had a great holidays!!! On to 2022.... Go Irish.
jfschellcrna
Freeman is gonna learn. He’s a young man Tough loss against an experienced coach in Van Gundy. Defense was gassed. Oline looked like 2 Freshman were playing. They’ll get back to work, but this game is gonna sting for a long long time….
drakan
offense was trash in the 2nd half. Their TOP was only like 11 min which gassed the D.
ckp160
1. Marcus Freeman burned a lot of the good vibes with his hire in this monumental collapse. 2. I'm willing to trade the experience of the current LB group for any shred of athleticism from an underclassmen. 3. Clarence Lewis is not even serviceable at this point. 4. This game is an example of why great teams never take their foot off the gas. Whether there's 10 minutes in the half or 10 seconds. This game was lost when they scored right before the half. The second they scored I was like, "What the frig did I just see?" 5. Giant learning moment for Marcus Freeman today. 6. While I generally believe you try to take the positives away in any situation, this loss is an exception. It was such a monumental collapse that you can't gloss over it by trying to be super positive. 7. Hopefully Sony asks for their Playstation 5s back from Notre Dame.
ndmike88
You knew the Irish would come out of the gate on fire and for the 1st 29:30 they played that way. No excuse for losing after being up 28-7. Hopefully MF learned a lot today.
FaithInIrish Forever
liked the fight to the end. Surprised he didn't punt and play defense but thats football 1. no balance- tired out our defense 2. lots of blitzes, to many long catches 3. inexperience- missed kyren, kelly , hamiltonothers at times 4. not going to be easy 5. will motivate freeman and others

zemaniak
* OL still can’t run block * Rees gave up on the run because of that, you could argue too early * Offense became vanilla way too fast, and predictable *Coan is still too inconsistent, call it nerves, putting too much weight on himself, regardless. He becomes rattled, it’s over *WRs not helping,. Bad routes, dropped passes… *Is Buchner that bad that he didn’t deserve a shot? And Who made that decision? Rees or Freeman? *Defense imploded. What happened to the defense that dominated last 3 games of the season? *Why couldn’t Freeman adjust? Shades of earlier this season… same goes for the tackling. Atrocious *Lewis: WTF, i mean, i dont recall him being this bad all season *Did this team even practice between TxGiving and this game? This team looked like Sept ND *BONUS: Elder must be eating this up, but he was right… Freeman and Rees showing how green they are. Let’s hope they can grow from this, but this is concerning. Under BK this year we played bad but always found a way to win. This time we were playing great and found a way to lose. We played progressively worse until players woke up on D but it was too late. On O… i mean, i just don’t know…. Freeman and Rees need to learn fast that being the players’ buddy won’t work. There needs to be a bad cop. One who knows how to prepare and adjust, and win. Ultimately, that is who players will bleed for. Happy NY to everyone nonetheless, C ya next August Edited January 1, 2022 by zemaniak

He’s going to start out 0-2 after they get obliterated in Cbus

He can’t recruit or develop QBs, and he’s just ok with calling plays.
ndomer4
1- How on earth did Lewis start here for 2 years? Pathetic. 2- The linebackers have zero athleticism. Could have used Liufau, Kollie and Simon. 3- 37 seconds, 3 timeouts and you play it safe? You threw for 350 in the first and they get the ball… mind boggling. Hope that’s a lesson learned. 4- Why did we abandon the pass? We couldn’t run the ball in the third. I think if we go full out Texas Tech throw it all over the yard we run away with it. 5- Tackling… haven’t seen tackling that bad since 2016. I sure hope Freeman recruits better than he gameplans and teaches fundamentals because that was atrocious.

nd1989
Elder was right. Marcus just showed how green he is at coaching during a game. - No offensive adjustments. We should have pulled Coach after the 2nd 3 and out . Put Buchner in, at least for a change of pace. The coaches seemed locked up and just couldn't make this move. - No defensive adjustments. Left Lewis in way too much, no spy on Sanders, OLB continually lost contain on the sweep. - 4th down call. Just a bad move. Lost the game right there. If you punted at least we had a chance, once down by 9 it was over. Honestly, I feel like I'm watching the Detroit Lions and Dan Campbell. I've been dealing with this horriable in game decisions all season....

TexasDomer
This was the first game, and mistakes were made. We’re all disappointed. Adjustments didn’t happen. but the sky isn’t falling. I believe that this is the START rather than the completed project. If we have a lot of these, then it’s a pattern and a problem. But I’m not planning on panicking. This was not as painful for me as either of the playoffs we lost.

I thought the timing was weird but I definitely think he will have fewer obstacles in Baton Rouge. It’s an odd fit and he will lose to UGA and Bama, not sure they will have the patience ND had. Jersey Irish
Stunning how the defense folded like a tent after starting hot and helping O buid the lead to 28-7. They were gassed in 2nd half because they could not substitute, but heck make a stop sometime! Tackling was sloppy in second half, gotta fix that. Hope the loss does not discourage team after such a high note for Freeman being named coach. Would love to hear this remarks to the team afterward. Thought game plan was goo d, but Okies made halftime adjustments, so we should have run the ball more or done jet sweeps. Also, I am very surprised not any PI called on Ok St Though Buckner should have gotten a couple series, even in the first half yo loosen up that defense. Such a discouraging loss. And don't forget the very makaeble FG missed!
