1 WR in this class? Terrible. He should be ashamed, time to give him the axe.

Nothing official, but why wait?

I mean. I hate to fire anyone. People have families and such. But this is bad. My only concern is what is his relationship with with the other three senior wide outs?  If he goes then they go. You are looking at a real mess there. Transfer portal here we come.

No point in forcing him out before the bowl game, but I do agree that Del probably needs to go. His recruiting has been subpar and I have not been overly impressed with technique he is teaching. Austin is simply using his RAW skills to beat people right now.

Maybe if they’d axed him when Kelly left, they could’ve saved at least 1 of the 2 bw Williams & Walker.

Both were looking heavily long before Kelly left. They were gone...

A better WR coach could’ve tipped things in ND’s favor. Freeman was hired bc of his recruiting and while he can dominate recruiting on D, he hasn’t done anything for the Offense.

I will say that is a fair point.

I said COULD have. However, there’s plenty of proof Alexander isn’t any good at recruiting

Freeman had almost no time to impact offensive recruiting for 2022. The 2023 and 2024 classes will be the ones to measure his recruiting capabilities for offensive players. Also, based on his comments after he was named HC, it seems that strong recruiting will be a key attribute for any of Freeman's new hires.

In terms of Rees, the next class will be Tommy's chance to show that any recruiting deficiencies were due to Kelly's influence on both individual prospects, offensive scheme, and the other offensive assistant coaches (not sure that Rees had any say in their hiring).

thank you, Saved me so much typing.

Two other things on Rees.  1. He started to get involved on OL recruiting last year.  The last two classes have been as good as we've ever had.  I think we just need Rees to be more involved in WR and maybe QB (But I figured this would have been him for awhile....).  2. Maybe having Marcus take over recruiting will help Tom as well.  Much higher expectations now....

Agreed that ND has recruited some really good players on O lately (including Alt btw). Given that the new "Golden Standard" is hopefully regular Top 5 classes (or at least close). Then both quantity and quality will be needed each and every year.

Ya, I didn't include Alt only because he was lowly rated and considered a high upside project. Clearly the offensive coaches nailed the evaluation and he has to be considered WAY ahead of schedule. I suppose Evans, Diggs, and Estime would fall into this category as well.

Also on offense from the year prior included studs in Tyree and Mayer and good prospects in Baumann, Tosh, and Carmody. Clearly the WR class never happened.

Evaluation can make up for some recruiting shortfalls if a staff consistently is better than average at finding diamonds in the rough. It seemed to me that Clemson was finding lower rated recruits who played above their ranking on a consistent basis.

How many WRs has ND lost in the last couple of years to transfers? That is what makes only recruiting 1 WR so alarming.

Schrauth signed after Kelly left. He's said publicly that he didn't really like Kelly all that much, but liked Freeman.
