Huge hire for the folks in Norman. Venables has been courted for years and declined. He must feel ready or that OU is closer to winning and too good to pass up.

This will sting in Clemson, SC.

This will definitely hurt. Let’s see how Dabo does without his right hand man. That’s why I said, give a call to Dabo to see how’s he’s feeling. Neve know. But it is what it is. We got our man now.

Another guy getting an amazing first job, hope he does well there. Dabo has some work to do to get Clemson back humming.

Wow. Dabo probably panicking a bit right now.

I’d look at the Utah DC if I were Dabo.

I think Clemson is done. I like Dabo well enough but his Gomer Pyle routine isn't working. I think he lucked into Watson and then Lawrence I don't see him getting Clemson back into the playoffs.

Could be wrong.

Good for BV. He's a great guy. We both use the same fishing guide lol...

It'll be interesting how he handles the spotlight, as he normally tries very hard to avoid it.

Dabo now needs to find an upgrade at QB and now a DC... ouch. He'll be fine though.

I get that. But they just went 9-3 and that’s a bad season?  Before that he’s been to the playoffs almost every year since it’s birth. One season and people are calling for his head. Jeeze.

He should be. Tony Elliot is also a legitimate candidate for the UVA and Duke jobs.

I don’t think he’ll ever be fired. However, that shine isn’t nearly as bright as it once was. Their Offense was absolutely putrid outside of Will Shipley. DJ doesn’t look anything like the QB he did vs ND last year. The Defense was awesome, and will still be awesome next year. However, if you can’t score points, you can’t compete at the highest level.

Also rumors Venables is trying to poach Jeff Lebbe, the Ole Miss OC. That would be a nice pick up.

I think Oklahoma and Texas, but more so Oklahoma, are making huge mistakes going to the SEC. Texas is still Texas, they’ll always be the premier program in the state, just like USC in CA. Oklahoma will always be the premier program in Oklahoma, but what’s that really worth?

I don't think he is bad I just think he has been punching above his weight class the past couple years. I don't think they are perennial top 10.

I’m waiting for the “objective” post you will write about what a “huge risk” Oklahoma is making in hiring a first time head coach……just to keep it fair in what you said about MF.

It is a risk, but in all fairness Venables has a lot more experience as a DC than Freeman.

I think this is a riskier hire than Campbell, but I’m not sure who else was in the running.

Man, you guys are tough. Maybe you guys can hang with the Bama crowd. He turned that program around real quick and a season where they “slightly” struggled and he’s lost his shine. I think DJ will get it figured out in the off-season. The only thing I never liked was his OC. His offense reminded da me of everything BK did. I absolutely hate it. But we will see soon enough if Dabo isn’t that great anymore.

I acknowledge I may be wrong and I really don't have a dog in the fight. He may turn it around with DJ or another QB and turn out to be great. He is obviously well liked and respected by the players he may grab another highly rated QB and get the train rolling again. I don't dislike the guy I just don't know that he is great.

Two years ago I would have traded a kidney for him to come to ND.
