With the shadows of Kelly gone. Do we see a different offense next year? More hurry up, motion, screens, and sweeps? Or do we do the same typical boring, predictable offense that doesn’t work against good coaches and teams? I wonder how much  control Kelly had for in game plays.

He'll always have a version of the Offense he played. Now remember he played under Chuck Martin with a Good offensive line so as much as he threw when the line was young under Molnar, the DNA that rubbed off appears to be Chuck Martin.

That being we will run the rock until you only have one safety back.

Stanford started in double eagle so ND passed first.

The avery davis injury changed the offense this year.

Players over plays

If Buchner starts, yup different offense

It's all going to pretend on how much Buchner can handle, assuming he's the starter (likely a safe assumption).  I think we're going to see lots of designed runs with Buchner, and at least to start the season, Logan Diggs and Chris Tyree are going to get lots of burn.

I believe that becomes run heavy with a dose of heavy play-action. Somewhere like Malik Zaire. Watch these substitute Tyler for Malik.

I'm liking this comparison a lot Faith. Even in the passing game, we're going to see Buchner rolling out or doing the Ian Book scramble pretty frequently.  Gonna be a big year for Michael Mayer too, because he is both the best tight end in America, and because he will likely prove to be the best safety valve in the country too.

My hope is new formations, play to the players strength, and don’t get to pass happy. Especially in a hurricane.

Defensive coach won't want the defense worn out so ND will run the ball, imo. No worries on 50 passes.  Rees will be prepared he's a coach who is very devoted to his craft.

Here’s a different way to look at this. Saban completely changed his offense because he saw what certain offenses could do, even against his great players. Does Freeman, tell Rees to start doing certain things like Bama. As a DC , he knows what stresses a defense the most.

You know me I want more TE seam routes.  Sprinkle in some more counters/reverses on the runs to mix up the rushing game.  Get rid of the slow developing, double stiff armed hand off to the HB crap that became a predictable and easily countered staple for the past 12 years!!

Oh and don't be so predictable because of down and distance, personnel groupings, and formation.  Twelve years of watching teams with a halfway competent DC stop us because of those obvious and never changing trends is too much.

Bingo. Couldn’t stand how predictable we were.  Also, how easy we abandoned the run some games.

I think we will see more ground and pound ala Iowa St bowl game as that was Tommy's audition as a play caller.

Kelly was so enamored with slow developing quarters beating route concepts early in his career and even this season.

I thought of you on the play at 2;50 VS Georgia Tech

Can't wait for Tommy to roll out the triple option with Tyler next year...

Yes, that's sarcasm.

I expect similar O, maybe more hurry up. And I hope the use of younger guys becomes more normalized.

I sincerely hope he settles on a single QB model. I know that his career at ND and his tenure with BK has always had a change of pace QB but I hope that goes away.

won't be traditional triple option but I do expect the RPO game

OMG yes to abandoning the run game.

This is also why I really believe we need a QB coach to work with that group and not just Rees.  Someone who's been familiar/successful with that scheme and throwing from it.

Most likely Rees will still coach QB's  Maybe we'll have openings at  OL or WR

Me too. I don't like the platoon effort. I don't mind goal line packages in certain situations, but give me one guy..... The question is more than anything, is who will step up and be the well rounded guy. Will it be Tyler, Pyne, another grad transfer, a newb rook...

Oh I expect RPOs, but won't be a triple option.

All in all, I could see Tommy's youth look to be creative.
