Poll: "who do you want" and "who will we get" in terms of a BK replacment

Posted

Listed all the names that are being floated out there.

Most reporting I'm seeing is that Fickell is the likely candidate, but Freeman has an inside track and support from a lot of admin and players.

If you choose "other", please list/explain below.

Saban. Dare to dream.

I put other. The reason which some don’t understand when we used to do this daily is-I’m not in the damn interviews to see a guys personality and how he reacts to questions. So, throwing names out there is asinine to me. It’s Swarbrick’s job to do that. So….all I can say is this.  I want a coach that motivates young men, I want a relentless recruiter or somebody that can close or who can hire someone who can close(Freeman, Cerrato). I want some experience and I want someone who knows X’s and O’s. Not that hard to find. Holtz could motivate and new X’s and O’s. He let Vinny Cerrato do the recruiting. That’s it.
I think Fickel may fit that mold. I don’t know much about him. So I put him down as who they will hire.

For sure lol.

Belichick too if we're daring to dream...

I'll add....

  • If Freeman is the internal pick, I think they announce quickly so that they can retain players/recruits and coaches.
  • If this drags out, it's more than likely Fickell is the guy
  • If all of sudden we see Fickell get a huge raise (gonna happen) from Cinci, while no announcement has been made (for Freeman), then we might see a deeper coaching search.

I think Freeman is their choice, and I'm good with that. Fickell would also be a good hire.

I think nary a few folks saw Riley/USC and now BK/LSU coming, so perhaps there are more surprises in store with ND and OU still to select their next HC.

Early in the poll, but funny how many people were poo pooing Freeman early this year, and so far he's the overwhelming "want"..

Still early, just gave me a chuckle.

I think Freeman is the best choice right now for a variety of reasons. The only thing people complain about Freeman is that he is not already a HC. However, most of the HC in the playoff hunt were not head coaches before their current jobs. It is not a requirement and Freeman seems to be the best option of the keeping the momentum going and continuing to raise the bar and possibly get to that next level ON the field. He is a homerun hire from a recruiting perspective.

I'm torn between Fickell and Freeman.

If it's possible to get Fickell and keep Freeman, that would be my choice.

If it's one or the other, I lean towards Freeman as I think it's the best chance of keeping recruits and assistant coaches.

If Taylor and Rees are gone regardless, I'd rather have Fickell I think.

Fickell is a D guy, so he brings what Freeman does for the most part. But he has the HC experience. Whatever happens, I just hope we get a rock star OC if Tommy leaves.

I think ND is probably looking at Fickell 1a and Freeman 1b but the timing with Fickell (likely having to wait till January) is going to be a big factor.

If I'm Jack...

If Cinci loses this weekend, I'm going to hard close Fickell

If Cinci wins this weekend, I'm not waiting till the CFP to go at Fickell, and I'm going to close Freeman fast.

I'm sure BK and Jack will be having conversations about what assistants stay/go, and BK is probably trying to sell a few of his guys as we speak. I'd hate to lose Tommy, Lance, or Freeman.

Smart inherited a UGA program that was already built to win. Harbaugh, Fickell, and Saban had to rebuild their program.

Wouldn't really say Saban had to rebuild. The year before Shula got fired, Bama was undefeated and top 5 going into the last 2 games of the year. Close loss to LSU, and loss to Auburn on the road (both top 10 teams IIRC). They went on to win the Cotton. I'd say Saban just brought more consistency and dominance.

I did select other for who we are going to get. If the administration was honestly blind-sided by this as they claim, then we have a ton of ground to make up. I am guessing Oklahoma has been in Fickell's ear for the last 72 hours so ND is definitely going to be the Johnny Come Lately and they may not pony up the kind of cash Oklahoma is going to pay out. The real freaking nightmare here is that Kelly has every opportunity to pull the coordinators and training staff with him and leave our cupboard completely bare, making the job a lot less desirable. My ugly gut feeling is we are going to end up with someone out of left field that leaves us all scratching our heads.

I think a lot of the coaches were a little peeved at Kelly. I am not really worried about Kelly stealing coaches, hell, maybe he will do us a favor and take Quinn, Polian, and Alexander with him. The main coaches I want to stay are Rees, Freeman, Taylor, and Elston; the last two are the only concerns I have. Which there is a chance that if Lance Taylor leaves, they will go after Alford.

I am not mad about him getting another offer and not asking it to be matched. Honestly, with all of the stupid mega extensions out there it was on ND to be proactive and pay up if they wanted to keep BK. I hope Swarbick knows something we don't about the staff because he has a bad habit of getting surprised by things. Not sure how confident he is going to be when Freeman, Rees, Balis and Flint are all gone to other programs.

I was confused about the situation. One tweet says they didn't talk into last night, the other says Brian did give them the opportunity to match... IDK.. doesn't make sense to me.
