1. 3 points allowed

2. 200 +  yards rushing

3.  Bo Bauer was awesome

4. Kevin Austin played well.

5. ND won

1- Bo Bauer> Drew White

2- Ramon Henderson needs more reps, may be our best cover guy.

3- Coan is so much better. Moving around the pocket finally and picking up yards with his legs. Great to avoid those sacks, starting to think he played on an injured ankle or knee at the beginning of the season.

4- We will miss Williams but Diggs is going to be a star.

5- I thought Rees called a great game. Nice to see us stress the defense sideline to sideline finally.

Bonus- my one gripe… why not try and get points at the half? If they have a competent QB you might be in a dog fight. Why not create a gap and try to get style points. Saban, Day and Dabo ain’t running out the clock.

  1. Highlight type plays from Kyren, Mayer, and Diggs.
  2. Kyren was awesome. Wished he would have got a few more carries and broke 100 to help his draft stock
  3. Great D without MTA
  4. Bo Bauer looked great. Can we please see more of him going forward.
  5. Coan had a pretty nice night
  6. Very conservative game plan, but it worked. I think just about anything would have worked. Post game on the radio said we left 21 points on the field lol...
  7. Diggs isn't letting go of RB2. Get Tyree more slot snaps.
  8. TDs by Austin and Lenzy were nice.
  9. Nice to see Ramon get some shot outs. And glad to see our DBs do decent without Kyle
  10. 2 more games to go, and looks like 11-1 is a given short of a complete let down. Back sliding into the CFP scares me lol

What happened to MTA? Hopefully back soon…

1.  The running backs on this team are beasts despite the crappy offensive line.
2.  If given full reigns, Tommy Rees can be one of the best offensive coordinator’s in the country.
3.  The one thing I hate about Brian Kelly is his stubbornness to think college football is like the NFL. Just win baby. 🤦‍♂️
4. Notre Dame has the personnel to beat just about anybody in the country.

1. The TD pass to Kevin Austin by Jack Coan was money.

2. Logan Diggs looking really good.

3. Bo Bauer played great, he always looks like he is having so much fun when he's playing.

4. The OL as a whole had a pretty good day.

5. Yes, running out the clock to close the 1st half was baffling.

6. We're knocking on the door of 11-1

This time I don’t mind running out the block.  Fewer chances to get injured.

I wanted to go for the kill too, but if you think about it, we’re backed up deep in our territory up three touchdowns.  The last thing you want is a turnover that allows them to get a TD before half and then get the ball coming out of the locker room.  If disaster strikes and they capitalize, it’s a one touchdown game.

I mean, they came out fired up on that first drive of the second half.

It was conservative but probably smart.

I have not been a fan of Rees as ND’s OC. Too many of his 3rd and short, and 4th down, play calls baffle me.
And yet, his game plans and in-game adjustments just keep working. At least, against mid-tier teams. Gotta give him props for that.
With ND’s record over the last two years, I’m learning to sit down, be quiet, and understand that I really don’t know squat about offensive football in the 2020’s.

ND’s results for the last 4 years speak loudly. High school players are obviously paying attention.

If you want to see horror stories, go to the chat boards of Florida and Texas. I’m happy with this coaching staff overall, and am learning to come to terms with my Tomphobia.

Top Takeaways for me:

- Defense playing well.  LBs and Safety seem much better now than early in the season.

- Coan is playing well.  Throwing quickly.  rolling out.  Even took off and ran a few times.

- Mills.  Wow.  Game ball  Enough said.

- Nice to see many players really developing and maturing.  This has been a great season from that perspective.  Don't remember a season like this where it started so bad and has just steadily improved.  There's almost too many to mention.  It really is amazing.

- Love Bauer's hair.  Got a mention from the broadcast crew last night.

1.  This looked like a scrimmage to me. UVA had way less talent. Kelly put on the brakes offensively at halftime. Buchner fumbling the running back exchange in the red zone is troubling. Hope he cleans that up.

2. It’s hard to assess the defense, as UVA started a true freshman QB and had a tight end that couldn’t catch. They couldn’t run, but didn’t have the running back speed or a capable WB to exploit our slow linebackers and ok secondary like Cincinnati did. I would have enjoyed watching the game -and had a better assessment of the D-if their QB had played.

3. It’s fun to watch players make plays like Mayer and Kyren consistently do. Austin had a nice night as well. The right side of the O-Line , with a senior and grad student, is weak. Hopefully the young players are better, or develop better.

4. I may be wrong, but it looks like we’re going to play Wake Forest in our bowl game due to our ACC alliance. In a way it is fitting to this season. Another boring game against another basketball school with way less talent. Who wouldn’t rather see us play Michigan, MSU, Oregon or the next best SEC team after Alabama/Georgia?

5 Hopefully Freeman’s more talented recruits can take us to the next level, though we still need some monster DT’s like Georgia/Alabama have. I’m not sold on Quinn as a developer of talent , but it looks like our upcoming skill position players are solid. I’m not sold on Buchner and hope we bring in another transfer QB

I see your point and early in Kelly’s tenure we had lots of bad breaks at unfortunate times which has likely led to his game management approach.

So this probably was the right game to do such a thing. Kelly is really good at beating the teams he is supposed to, and looking around the country there is few that would do better here (maybe 3 or 4). I just don’t think you can win a title like that but I hope he proves me wrong.

1. We have the best RB group in the country (I truly believe that)

2. Michael Mayer needs to stop trying to leap people, he did it once in the 2nd half where he just pushed people aside and ran through people and gained an extra 5 yards. Mayer, you are at big TE, not a skinny RB or WR, dont leap them, run through them.

3. Henderson was good at safety, he is not a good corner

4. I am tired of prevent offense, I hate it almost as much as I hate prevent defense (The only difference is that prevent offense is merely annoying while prevent defense will lose games for you). You have to get the backups game experience.

5. QB sneaks are worthless unless it is at the goalline and it is INCHES, not over an entire yard... especially not with this Oline and QB.

I think one of the reasons for that. The young looking announcer last night ( don’t know his name) played at Oklahoma and had his hair just like Bauer’s when he played.

I guess my feeling on the game was that it was the first time this season, against a decent opponent (on paper offensively?) where they never had to sweat. Players were out - really good ones (Davis, Hamilton, MTA, I'm sure there are more) yet with essentially a mix of backups, ND made it clear who was the better team, even with some untimely mistakes.

8 sacks against a young yet mobile QB

Kyren Williams has spoiled us, but Diggs seems up to the task of replacing him

Mayer's hands - not perfect but damn good considering everything else he does well

Freshman LT continuing to improve. Imagine that dude in 2 more years

Didn't seem like many Irish penalties

Call me old fashioned but I like that we put the game out of reach and kept it there. Probably should have been 35-3 but I've always felt that despite what other schools do, ND is not going to run it up. Thankfully this year they've been able to do that AND get freshman talent on the field. Just seems like this team is getting to "reload" territory. I did feel the first half of this season was a rebuild effort but they got through that pretty quickly, or so it seems. This is also why I've softened on my "no playoffs!" stance, unless we could somehow rematch with Cincinnati. If the only option is first game against UGA - ugh. No thanks, bring on Wake.

1. Great job by ND to just go win a game convincingly and just showcase that you're far more athletic and talented than the other team. What I mean by this, is the Irish far from played a perfect game, but they easily handled the less talented UVA.

2. Ramon and X Watts flashed at S, which is good to see. As I'm sure people have said before, as uncomfortable as Ramon looks at CB, he looked very comfortable after playing S for a week.

3. Mayer, Tyree, Diggs, Styles all back for sure next year along with maybe KA and Lenzy would be a pretty impressive group of skill guys.

4. 2nd String D showed up with major injuries/illness at all three levels of the defense, well done. Also, I think they triple teamed Foskey at one point in the game which is the ultimate sign of respect.

5. Kyren please stay one more year.

Quick thoughts:

3 man rush doesn't work. Our cover is too suspect when the rushers don't get home.

A lot to look forward to the next three or four years on offense. Buchnher, Lenzy, Diggs.

Henderson has a future at safety but the defense as a whole is mediocre. I know that sounds crazy after an eight sack 3 point game but I just don't think they are great. Against good or great competition we get picked apart in the pass game. I like the future though I am butthurt about Styles to OSU.
