Irish open up week 10 in the #8 spot in the coaches poll.

AP not released yet.

First CFP rankings will be live Tuesday night.

Michigan drops all the way to 10.  I was surprised to see that.  Didn't think they would drop that far.  Granted, coaches poll is pretty much the most useless of the three polls.

OK likely was penalized more for looking mediocre vs a weak schedule, and for letting TX score 48 on them. They have zero impressive wins. They have a chance to get 3 good wins the next 3 games. They

AP Poll just dropped.  ND ranked #8 there as well.  Michigan #9, Wake #10.

1 - UGA
2 - Cinci
3 - Bama
4 - OK
5 - MSU
6 - OSU
7 - ORE
8 - ND
9 - Mich
10 - Wake

Pretty close but I would flip flop Ohio Staye and Oregon since Oregon won head to head.
Now for the selection top four.
1. Georgia

2. Cincy

3.  Oklahoma

4.  Michigan State

5. Bama. They’ll move up soon enough. As soon as State and Oklahoma lose. Which I think is soon.

If Bama beats Georgia in the SEC championship, I think both will get in... I hate the SEC.

I dont have Cincy in my top 5 and it sucks that we lost to them. Cincy will get destroyed by others on that list.

1. Georgia
2. MSU
3. OK
4. Bama
5. Oregon
6. OSU
7. Cincy

My top 5 would be:

 1. Georgia 2. Alabama 3. Oklahoma 4. MSU 5. Ohio State

I'm keeping Cincinnati out because of their SOS. A win over the Irish shouldn't put them into the playoffs. (Assuming they win out.)

I just couldn’t put MSU that high. Sure they played Michigan tough and beat them. But besides that I don’t think they’ve played anyone with even a winning record.

Yep. That’s my thought. And Cincy barely lost to Georgia last year. So, they are at least decent and not as bad as some would suggest.

My reason is simply because of their wins, being unbeaten still, and looking better than Oklahoma.

Agreed I don’t know how they rank OSU over ORE.  I get that OSU have been rolling since that loss but the games have to matter.

This could get interesting if Cincy loses to SMU in the title game or last game of the season.

MSU loses to OSU, UM upsets OSU.

Bama could lose to Auburn.

Oklahoma could also lose.. a one loss Oklahoma, MSU, and UM would likely be ranked behind ND.

conversely WF keeps handling their business they will and should get into the playoff and jump ND.

so you’re saying there’s a chance..

A chance for ND to get embarrassed in the playoffs again

I hate to say it, but there's a fair chance it happens. We have one of the best % chances to win out.

And outside of the UGA/Bama, no other team looks like they're rolling, or will continue to roll.

For those that want us to get jail sexed by Bama or UGA, then hope for...

  • Cinci to be ranked as high as possible (I think they'll be 5th), and lose the last game (SMU)
  • UGA to win out an beat Bama in the CC
  • OSU to win out
  • An OK loss (to anyone) but preferably in two weeks at Baylor
  • An Oregon loss

That would leave UGA and OSU as obvious teams, and ND having a fair shot at one of the last two slots.

Personally, I don't really want another CFP embarrassment. We're not good enough this year. Give me a good bowl game vs a good, not great opponent. Wouldn't mind an SEC opponent not named UGA or Bama... TAMU or Auburn would be fun. BYU, or SMU if they beat Cinci would be interesting (ND vs another religious college).

  • 15 BYU
  • 14 TAMU
  • 13 Auburn
  • 12 Baylor
  • 11 OK State
  • 10 Notre Dame
  • 9 Wake
  • 8 OK - surprising... but spot on..
  • 7 scUM - too high for me...

Top 6 coming up

  • 6 Cinci
  • 5 OSU
  • 4 Oregon
  • 3 MSU
  • 2 Bama
  • 1 UGA

Surprised Oregon is up there. They prioritized the H2H win over OSU, but OSU is clearly better now.....

Thanks for the updates @OKelleyIrish

Head to head is strong here.  B1G will still damage itself so there’s definitely going to be chances for the Irish to move up the rankings a little more as long as they take care of their own business.

Right now I agree we probably don’t belong anywhere near one of those semifinal games.  However, if the offensive line keeps its upward trajectory and if the defense can turn their shit around I can see them at least making some noise in a NY6 game.

I think it’s likely ND plays Wake Forest in a NY6 bowl because we have an arrangement I believe

But I wouldn’t mind a ND vs Michigan NY6 bowl game.
