For me:

- offense has really developed.  Great job by Tommy.

- Kyren was a beast

- Coan played well.

- defense is a joke.  Oh my.  Freeman is overhyped. Either he doesn't understand it, or he doesn't know how to teach it.

- Defense can't tackle.  I just don't know what the coaches are teaching.  

- Defense can't cover.  CB and S are just weak,  Soft coverage.  ITs almost like they don't understand the zone so they are soft, even in critical plays.

☘We found yet another way to win.

☘Defense is rough both talent and scheme.

☘Coan and Buchner looked good, need to keep refining how we rotate them.

☘Kyren Willians is the toughest RB we've had in the Kelly Era and the improved Oline is unleashing him. 

☘Lorenzo Styles Jr. about to be a problem for defenses for years to come. 

☘Winning>Losing 

 

1. Kyren Williams 91 yard cutback run. 290 team yards

2. offensive line

3. Coan was good

4. A good gritty win

5. It took offense defense and special teams

 

- Can’t believe the difference in the o line with Alt and Kristofic. If we made that switch earlier we are undefeated and Kyren is a Heisman candidate. 
 

- Tackling like that will result in a loss vs Navy. 
 

- We sorely miss Hamilton. 
 

- Jury’s out on Freeman. 
 

- The front seven outside of Foskey is extremely pedestrian. 
 

- Styles is going to be special. 
 

- Coan is not half bad when he has time. Not sure where that movement was at the beginning of the year.. maybe he was hurt? Nonetheless it was great to see. 

- Liked how we used Buchner in the red zone and let him pass. I was just confused why he was in on the 3rd and 14.  

 

Defense sucked. That’s all I have to say. 

Our linebackers are very poor.  Definitely need major upgrades to that position next year.

You’re expecting true Freshman to come in and play well? The Secondary also blows. Lea left ND with Dollar Store talent. He should’ve taken everyone in that Back 7 tonight with him to Vandy.

OL has really improved.  Its amazing the difference in the line from the start of the year until now.  Patterson and Kristofic are serious, serious studs.  Alt is holding his own.  2 sacks in the past three games, and you could argue that both sacks were Coan's fault.  

Seriously, who in the f**k thought Bertrand could play at this level? Jesus Christ, he’s slower than any LB I’ve seen at ND and that’s the guy who leads the team in tackles? No wonder they suck.

Sometimes I wonder if ur really a Cincy troll…  Get real.  Ur the anti-Hawaii who used to piss me off for his blind optimism.  Ur too much with the negativity.  Negativity shouldn’t be permanent and continuous, especially when u only lose one or two games a year.

I’m gonna return to you, Elder.  Coach your kid in golf and you’ll learn some lessons about perfection and “shit happens”…. A humbling experience in coaching.  It puts other sports in perspective.

Drew White looks slower, people seem to forget we lost Liafau, Moala and Simom to season ending injury. Not saying those guys are any better, but we have no depth to rotate currently which makes guys tired and worse.

I don’t have kids and I can’t get the truly awful Defensive performance off my mind. They’re just not talented. There’s huge issues beyond this year. 

 

1. Offense -  
   • Great game Tommy. Only one punt per half
   • QBs - Coan had a nice game even though we relied heavily on the running game, and I though Buchner interrupted things a bit at times. Even a TD running the ball (instead of Buchner).... Buchner was fine, but I thought should have been dialed back tonight. 
   • RBs - Williams was a beast. 200+ and another 45+ on a return. I thought we leaned on Diggs too much at times. Would have liked to have seen C'Bo. Was he available, or just still a doghouse situation. 
   • WR/TEs - I think we had 4 guys with catches 20+ tonight. And though we could have had more. Styles was stylin'... Glad we are seeing him, and think it's very likely he should have been in the mix more since game one.
2. Defense 
   • Pass D - I thought we'd give up 300ish to Howell without Kyle. And we did.... We're just lucky he only connected on one TD... 
   • Run D - disappointed here. Howell had the most rushing yards, and he, and their two RBs had 5+ YPC.
3. Coaching - both offense and defense felt like it had a heavy hand from BK this week. A ton of clock run by us on O (42 runs), and somewhat of a full game prevent D... It worked at the end of the day. Not reading too much into this about our D. UNC has a great O and a great QB. Forcing only 3 punts though was a bit of a bummer....
4. Would have preferred more style points tonight, but it's fine. Other teams ahead of us are starting to drop, and we saw upsts today from Sparty, Auburn, Wiscy, and the Pirate. We should steadily move up week by week, but not sure I want to even start to hope that we get back in the top 6ish. I just don't think we belong. Our O might, but D still needs some time.
5. I'll take the W... We have 5 very winnable games in front of us. We should be 9 when the polls come out. Don't think scUM will drop that far. Starting to worry a bit about our trip to VA...

Again, Dollar Store recruits Lea brought in to fit his system. Wish ND could trade Simon for his Brother at OSU.

Bertrand was recruited to play MIKE, at least all the recruiting stuff and coaching comments seemed to suggest it. Injuries pushed him into the role IMO.

I think he's faster than what he looks, but also think he's a bit less the play maker/hitter than Bo.

Watched this on the plane. My friend who is usually the eternal optimist was angry with his texts about the defense. 
I mean, what do you expect?  They are running Freeman’s system with Lea’s guys. Those guys are bend but don’t break type guys. Not cause chaos with speed guys. So it is to be expected. Also, Howell was a pre-season Heisman favorite. He’s not garbage. Anyways,

that run….

o-line keeps looking better and better. But is it the new guys or the crappier defenses that ND is playing?

Out of all the amazing things Williams does, he’s a terrible punt returner. Get him out of there. He never catches it. Always loses yards every game. I returned punts in high school. Watching him return makes me want to put hot pokers on my eyes. Get Goodman back in there. 
 

A win is a win!  ND is now 8th. Almost an amazing weekend. Wished Clifford was better. The guy makes one bad decision out of ever 4 passing attempts. Penn states defense is good and should of knocked off Ohio State for one of the best weekends ever.

The O-Line is getting better each game. Being impressed by Joe Alt and Kristofic. Still think Cain Madden is not as good as advertised.

Lorenzo Styles getting playing time and producing in a big way can only help with the recruitment of his brother, Sonny Styles.

I don't think we will have to worry about Marcus Freeman getting hired as a HC this off-season.

ND is creeping up the rankings.

The offense had a really good game.

Hopefully Freeman can dominate off the field in recruiting which is one of the main reasons he was brought here.  I’m hopeful that if he gets more talented linebackers next year, the D will look much better.

I think this is exactly right. He’s probably a decent DC and exceptional recruiter.  He may only be at ND for one or two years and, judging by what I have seen so far, that’s fine with me. But I hope he manages to bring in a bunch more high profile defensive recruits while he’s at ND.
