I will rank a win over Cincinnati this year above last year’s Clemson win

Cinci is a good team, but not many take them serious.

Yes, top 10, but they struggled with IU and have played no one prior.

NOT saying we are better, or they suck, just not a game (at this point) I would say will rank high.

While Clemson had their backup playing last year (I don't even rank that win as very high), it was still a game that made people notice everywhere across the nation.

Getting a top 10 win with a team this young and wounded?

It would be extraordinary

Who’s there!  Clemson had three times the talent as Cincinnati. Even with them being wounded, Cincinnati still probably my has less talent than ND right now. The same way Wisconsin did today.
I will say, if Kelly wins 10 games this year I will say this year might be one of his best years at ND. This team isn’t as star studded and loaded as years past and with the injuries and youngin’s in, 10 wins would be a feat. But beating Cincy isn’t in the same boat as Clemson a top 2 team at the time. With the moniker of ND falling flat on their faces.

Sorry but I have to disagree. This is a huge overreaction. That Clemson team last year is still a class above Cinci, even without Lawrence.

It will be a big win no doubt but There is no way we should lose to Cinci.

Clemson was a shell of themselves without Lawrence IMO.

DJU just isn't that good. Has as many INTs as TDs this year, and under 60% completion rate. Under 50% today I think.

Probably the biggest surprise of this year to be honest. He played so well against Notre Dame last year.

As good as he was vs us, I think it had a lot to do with not having tape on him. Our D game plan was tuuurrribul. Perhaps our DBs (not named Hamilton) just stunk lol. I think Lawrence might have put up 600 that day lol.

Point number three accomplished. Wow!  That 4th quarter was a quarter to remember.

He also lost some O-linemen, running back and a couple of wide receivers. He’s playing with a whole different group

Etienne, LT, and 2 WRs.

Clemson has a lot of reload level 5 star type kids, so not giving them much grace.

And DJU is just playing bad too. Accuracy problems. Clemson probably misses Etienne as much as Lawrence, but they've got some highly rated RBs, and they let Melusi walk to Wisconsin....

If you guys will recall, DJU couldn’t get the ball within 15 yards of a receiver when throwing to his left in the BC game prior to our game with them.

He played much better against us but he also had much older and experienced talent around him then.  And also Trevor Lawrence to give him ideas and confidence from the sidelines.

He has none of that this year and I think it shows.

Who did UND beat in 2010 and they celebrated beating a top 25 team like it was some miraculous feat? Was it Utah? I know they lost to Tulsa that year.. Sheesh that was a low point for Notre Dame football.. First ranked team win in a long time.

That's what this will feel like. Ok great you beat a top 25 team but it's a non power 5 roster (which I know way more competitive with transfer portal) but it's not like playing a top 10 Florida, Michigan, USC team.

Keep the green jerseys locked away..

Speaking of Jerseys….shamrock series etc. why doesn’t ND do a year where they celebrate all the National Championship years. So, next Shamrock series they break out the 1923 uni’s.  Anyone down for that?

I've gone to 2-3 ND games and one spring game. I'm a Pennsylvania boy so I went to ND-Temple game and I agree with @cali_domer so much. Close game and a very good win. Turned on as I remember a Late game Will Fuller TD and was helped by a kizer TD run.

@Mike I believe temple was still coached by Matt Rhule at that time but everyone knew he had an NFL future. My point is if ND wins Years afterwards it becomes ND beat Temple. If ND loses however I feel like it could be viewed as Luke Fickell's spring board to USC or the  like.

A win in this game will be much bigger for Cincinnati than for ND. It could give them some legitimacy in the college football world. A loss, on the other hand, would do more damage to ND, I think.

There’s no way this would be a bigger victory than beating Clemson last season. Cincinnati is a good team, but I do believe they are somewhat overrated, based on who they’ve played this year and squeaking by an Indiana team that also was overrated coming into the season.

Agree mostly. A W means a ton to Cinci, not so much to us. A loss hurts us more than Cinci.

Clemons win last year was diminished by TL not playing. I rank the close loss to a Watson led Clemson during a hurricane over last year's win.

A win over a 7th-ranked media darling team will grab headlines everywhere. It would be a huge psychological boost to an ND team that knows it has something to prove. ND would move up to 7 probably. That’s all pretty major stuff.
I’m confident no one who participates in polls wants to rank highly an ND team that keeps getting destroyed in big bowl and playoff games, but when you are already inside the top 10 and beat a team ranked ahead of you, it definitely is adding some street-cred to your ranking.
