1. Our OL has big issues, especially on the interior. Fisher looked fine IMO, but everyone else struggled. Now Fisher is hurt..... May need to move Tosh over to LT where he practiced earlier this summer. Coan was under pressure all night, and our running game struggled big time.... Need adjustments now. Think we need to try out Spindler too at LG.
2. Run D was atrocious. People were critical of the LBs. Yes they need to improve, but first level was horrible. Like a wide open barn door. FSU was great running the ball last year, but no reason to give up 250+ rushing yards. 
3. I know Coan has limitations. But his performance and stats were elite tonight. And he did it with guys in his face all night, 75+%. 4 TDs, 360+ yards in regulation.... and Mayer dropped two passes, one that could have given us a FG win. If you aren't happy with him tonight, you're just a hater that defies all logic and fact because you have a narrative you're trying to prove lol
4. We have some pass catching talent. Austin is for real. Totally a smooth operator. That stop/go/juke near the sideline was impressive. That 50/50 catch by Wilkins was unreal. Aside from the mistakes, Mayer was a beast. 
5. RBs, our strength last year, had only 70 yards in regulation.... Tyree ran better than Kyren, Kyren caught better than Tyree. Just the opposite of what I thought. I've got to give them a break on the rushing yards because the OL was so bad..... 
6. As we all know, Kyle is the real deal... nough said... 
7. Pass rush was one bright spot on the D outside of Kyle's INTs. 5 sacks, and Foskey is going to be a monster all year. Should have been more than 5 sacks to be honest.

Ugly win, but I'll take the W...... 

Freeman can recruit but he’s a s**t tactician. The OL wasn’t good either. Hopefully, this is Mayer’s worst game.

 

Coan was excellent, as was Hamilton. And of course, Doerer has balls of steel. 

This is a good win. Not on the scoreboard or the stat sheet. But, it shows our players what they need to do to be a championship team, and how they didn’t do it. I think when we were up 38-20, we stopped playing. Can’t do that.

Good win at a tough place to play, with lots of teaching moments. I expect the 3-3-5 to become a 4-3 after this game. Especially against teams that can run.

1. Defense was unbearably bad. Poor tackling, over-pursuit and out of position. Need that tune up game next weekend at home in a bad way. 

2. Mayer screwed up, but he is such a monster out there. 

3. Hamilton and Foskey were the bright spots on defense, these guys are NFL ready playmakers.

4. Coan, what a well played game. He lacks a big arm but he throws a nice tight ball and once he shook the nerves, was dropping dimes to Austin and co. Reminds me very much of Jake Fromm.

5. Oline has huge issues if Fisher is out and some issues if he's okay. Run and pass blocking were equally bad, Coan was taking heat while Kyren didn't have his lanes to read and cut back in.

Freeman and the new scheme will need some patience. I agree we went 3 DL to early and at some bad times. But even when we had 4, the 1st level run D was just bad. That's execution. 

Pressures were great though. INTs were great.... front 6/7 rush D needs to go back to the lab...

Good post. 

I think Coan is much more willing to put it down field than Fromm. 

And I think he'll even have more confidence next time throwing to Austin and Wilkins.

And I’m happy with a win. I figured this would be tough, not this tough, but still it’s a win.

Where to start. 1-0. Missed so many tackles. We will have nightmares over the missed tackles. But Doerer is a senior kicker who just earned his place in a classic game. Coan Good. Offensive line question mark. Run Defense?? But they won on the road, that is the mission.

The only plausible explanation on defense would be that Marist got hurt too late to adjust . Kelly's charge to Freeman in the media was to get linebackers on the field. He did so. Now it might be time to rethink that strategy.

1. Freeman needs to scrap the high school 3-3-5 defense. Played much better with a traditional 4 down line earlier in the game.

2. Get Big Fish healthy.  He was the only lineman who held his own. Carmody is a poor backup at LT. 

3.  Pretty sure we have no answers at linebacker.

4.   Tyree needs to return the ball once in awhile.

I think FSU is much improved.  They are definitely a bowl team.

I don't think we can stick with MTA at DE.  He looks too slow and immobile and lost contain a few times.

Not sure what that 3 DL look was or why we stuck with it so long.  Should have stuck with what we did in the first half - stop the run, force the throw and pressure the QB.

Agree our OL needs some work, but nice that we put up 41 points.

Glad to see Doerer get those 2 FGs.  We will need him.

As well as Coan played, if he didn't underthrow a few other balls, they may have had 14 more.

On LBs... I honestly didn't like the Bertrand to WILL move. I think you move White to WILL (or one of the Rovers), and let Bo Bauer handle MIKE.

Who's your pick for LT while Fish is out? Tosh or Carmody?

I think they need to let Bo handle the middle (he's better vs the run than White IMO), and let White or one of the Rovers take WILL instead of Bertrand.
