Jack can have a Kyle Trask type season if we protect him decently and open things up, let's get this thing rolling!

  • I’m I found this an interesting read. Looks like they picked Mertz’s potential vs. Coan’s performance. Looking forward to seeing how he performs Sunday night.    Badger Writer Opines About Coan

  • Thunder, can you hold your camera up and live broadcast the game for us?

My biggest question is : Who transfers first, Pyne or Clark?

If they’re both satisfied to be the forever backup QB, maybe neither leaves?

Well, Jack's only got 1 year so one of those 2 will likely be the starter next year so maybe neither will leave. Hope not.

Don't think Tyler will take over next year?

I think Buchner starts next year and for two years after that. If ND lands one of the high level QB recruits they’re after for the 2023 class, Pyne and Clark will be signaling in plays from the sidelines on game days I think.

After hearing Kyren Williams talk about Coan last week I knew Jack was going to be the starting QB. Kyren said he was very surprised how quickly Jack fit in to the ND culture and he compared Jack to himself ( high praise because I love Kyren’s mentally toughness ) a tough competitor that wants to win.

As if this is a surprise?  We all knew this the day he transferred.

I don't think its surprising either but I figured the decision was worth documenting in its own topic/thread

Jack Coan Career Stats https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/gamelog/_/id/4242331/jack-coan

Phil Jurkovec Career Stats: https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4372768/phil-jurkovec

Stats there are pretty even. Coan probably has a better completion percentage while Phil might have more yards per play..

In reality Coan is competing with Phil's unmet potential at Notre Dame which alot of fans have a hard time letting go of.

The fact is Phil ran into this guy:

Ian Book's Career Stats:: The former Irish quarterback finished his career throwing for 8,948 yards, 72 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. Sorry about the font Change Copied and pasted

No no no that wasn't directed towards you as the thread starter.  More towards Kelly because we all knew he'd take the safe bet veteran over any of the kids.

I agree. Kelly QB's historically have a ceiling with a median at 2800 yards and a high of 3400 yards. Teams that win National Championships are 4200 + yards normally. He's certainly lacked creativity at QB development. Only playing 2 QBs in 2011 and when the QB got hurt. In contrast Clemson with the Number 1 draft pick made time every game to play their 5 star back up.

It's the way college kids think now, if they drop lower on the depth chart. Transfers are inevitable.

Will be nice to see a tall QB moving around the pocket, hope he finds the open man and wins the fan base over!

Yes agree.  Excited to see what Coan do.  Feel he is flying under the radar and not given enough credit for his 2019 season and overall talent.

The only thing I want to see with moving around the pocket is up back and side to side. Book was a rabbit..... ready to run if primary guy wasn't open. He couldn't wait because he couldn't stretch the field.

In comparing Coan to Book, Eric Hansen wrote “I'm not sure there's a big difference in arm strength between, say, Jack Coan and Ian Book, but Jack seems much more comfortable looking for those routes and letting it fly in the practices we've seen.”

I never thought Book had much arm strength for the long ball and was hoping Coan had more. We’ll see if Hansen’s assessment of their relative arm strength is accurate.

Jack for sure has better trajectory on deep balls I've seen, does not have a cannon but we'll hit more deep routes than we have since Kizer was here.

Definitely going to take some sacks from holding the ball too long and he will not rush for near the yards of Book but moving within the pocket and hitting open guys in the middle of the field will help make up for those tendencies.

Do you guys think Tommy Rees might one day be ND’s head coach?

What an improbable journey that would be

He's better than LeFluer sp* what a sh** show in GB. Can't believe they lost to TB after getting 3 picks.
