Driskell on Twitter and many of the message boards make it sound like he’s having some issues. All the mods are locking threads and saying when they have something to report they will, but not sounding good.

Would be a big loss. One thing I have learned is that there is always something when it comes to these types of rumors. I fully expected Botelho to miss some games now, lets just hope it is not for the entire season.

Whatever it may be is unknown now but there is definitely some smoke.  Would be a significant loss.  We'll just have to wait and see.  Hope for the best at this point but tough not to be at least somewhat concerned.

One insider said he believes it is an all or nothing situation, i.e., he wouldn't be suspended 2 or 4 games, but would be suspended for the entire season or not at all.  The same insider also said that he does not believe it involves academics, recreational drugs, or another person (which would eliminate fighting, etc.).

Don't want to speculate too much since this is obviously a very sensitive situation, but passing on what a well-regarded insider has said about the situation.

well thats not a name i wanted to hear about. He reminds me of Aaron Lynch which is good athletically but also bad because Lynch only made 1 year at ND

According to Tim Prister it was not a failed drug test

Just to be clear, Driskell never said anything about it. In fact, he said he had nothing to say about Botelho at this time. Someone/some people seemed to take his lack of comment to mean something. Crazy how literally saying nothing can turn into someone saying something.

If you are talking about the podcast, he said it wasnt a failed NCAA test. might be semantics, might not be. Again if that was the source.  if it was elsewhere, my comment is irrelevant.

Not a failed recreational drug test. And not by the ncaa.

Recreational and ncaa being the keys there

FYI to people

the reason why it matters is NCAA failed drug test is a 1 calendar year suspension, institutional test has institutional punishment.

When I was a SA, NCAA tests were rarer, typically 1 time a year plus after NCAA sanctioned events (ie postseason) whereas institutional were more regular

Honestly, it’s strange that you don’t hear of more failed drug tests for PED. I can’t think of one major one and I’ve got to believe it’s somewhat common.

NCAA tests are far more predictable. Institution ones are more random, but punishments are kept in house.

Also, institution tests can be used to push people along/out. Ironically we had a group of people who were constantly tested, 4 people who were likely smoking pot, and the cleanest person on the team. He was tested every time with all rounds because school knew he would pass.

Interesting. And I kno nothing about what is used today and how long it stays in your system.  But if the tests are predictable it explains some of it. I’d imagine some programs don’t have a huge problem with it internally as long as they don’t get caught by the ncaa. Just seems odd that you never hear about it.

Is there video of it? Was it a strong denial or did he just shrug it off?

Strong from Kelly, Driskell fired back in his recap saying "Botelho worked with the third team instead of the 1st" Both videos available in the Fall practice thread.
