Is ND recruiting well enough to play with the elite? I look at classes two at a time personally. OL and DL even need to be looked at deeper, probably 3 classes at a time given they can take longer to gain the good weight and tend to stay longer. I'm looking at the 2021 class with the current 2022 class. I will focus on the Offense here and look forward to hearing people's opinions.

QB (3)

CA QB Tyler Buchner:  247 Composite 4* 0.97

IN QB Ron Powlus III: 247 Composite 3* 0.80

NJ QB Steve Angeli: 247 Composite 4* 0.91

I think ND needs to shoot higher in every class at QB. They waited too long to offer the higher rated prospects that they may have had a shot with in 2022. It feels like they don't push for the higher level guys. I do think Buchner has shown the flashes of being very good and it is excellent he will hopefully get to take another year to grow. Angeli has actually shown a nice arm in camps this year. His 40 yard throws looked quite effortless and his mechanics are clean. I'll be curious to see him in action this year. Overall, I think they can shoot higher for every class but are in a solid position. They can improve year over year.

RB (3)

NJ RB Audric Estime: 247 Composite 4* 0.91

LA RB Logan Diggs: 247 Composite 3* 0.87

TX RB Jadarian Price247 Composite 4* 0.91

Love the RBs and think they are championship level. Of course, Singleton and Sawchuk are the desired type of guys but ND has done really well when they don't land them. The current 3 guys each bring a unique skill set and I think Price could be a monster after a year with Balis (I'm a big fan). Diggs might surprise some people.

WR (4)

GA WR Deion Colzie: 247 Composite 4* 0.96

OH WR Lorenzo Styles, Jr.: 247 Composite 4* 0.95

GA WR Jayden Thomas: 247 Composite 4* 0.90

LA WR Amorion Walker247 Composite 3* 0.86

WR does need to pick up but it has been really hampered by the players themselves. Imagine Claypool maturing a year earlier to join Boykin at a high level. Then imagine KJ Stepherson still on the team. Then imagine Kevin Austin being more mature. Then imagine a healthy Keys and Lenzy. The WR room has had talent but it has not all come together at once yet. Last years class was very good. I am intrigued to see what ND has in Jayden Thomas. Love his attitude and work ethic, but curious to see what he does on the field. Amorion Walker is a very nice start to the 2022 class. He could be a Stepherson like find (different position though). ND definitely needs to (must?) add Williams and Merriweather to bring this group up to par though. Andre Greene would also be a big deal. Work to be done here.

TE (4)

GA TE Cane Berrong: 247 Composite 4* 0.91

OH TE Mitchell Evans: 247 Composite 3* 0.88

GA TE Holden Staes247 Composite 4* 0.90

IA TE Eli Raridon: 247 Composite 3* 0.88

There really shouldn't be a question about TE. Berrong and Evans did well this spring. I think Evans could be a steal if he continues to gain flexibility back. My favorite is Raridon. He could be a monster. He has the size and athletic ability to turn into something special. Staes is no slouch, I really like him too. These seem like championship pieces.

OL (8)

IN OL Blake Fisher: 247 Composite 4* 0.97

MI OL Rocco Spindler: 247 Composite 4* 0.97

FL OL Caleb Johnson: 247 Composite 4* 0.90

MN OL Joe Alt: 247 Composite 3* 0.88

IL OL Pat Coogan: 247 Composite 3* 0.87

IN OL Joey Tanona247 Composite 4* 0.93

MA OL Ty Chan: 247 Composite 4* 0.92

IN OL Ashton Craig: 247 Composite 3* 0.87

This is one we should add in guys like Tosh Baker and Michael Carmody. Those two with Fisher and Spindler gives you 4 really solid OL. Johnson, Alt, and Chan have the stature and appear to have the tools to be OTs. Coogan or Craig for center. Then Tanona at a guard position. This is a really nice, healthy mix of very good and some very promising players. I think these guys will be championship level. ND is still looking to add 1-2 more for 2022.

Big, as always, appreciate the time you put into covering recruiting

Would you rank the above positions as:

OL, TE, RB, QB, WR?

Well done @Big23Head I agree that QB and WR are the places that separate good offense from great 33.4(ND) to 48.5 (Bama) I think ND has the TE lineage and the Joe Moore award to always attract TE and when they are winning attract offensive lineman. Coaches tend to link OL is automatic but its not.

WR is definitely the Hardest position at ND on offense to recruit to In my opinion. As Long as Lou Holtz is your last National Championship and you missed on Urban Meyer, ND will have a running ethos, that those kids can feel. Lot of NEAR misses too if Randy Moss became a generational domer, yes.  Tim Brown had a great career I agree but lacked the east coast media machine,

Close but we are in desperate need of a generational player at QB and WR

FYI…..for those of you having a hard time reading Big’s post ….you need to go to “Theme” at bottom of page and change yours to dark. After you can change it back to light. It very easy to do and takes about 3 seconds.

Excellent work Big23!  I agree with what you are writing. Especially, about QB and WR. I actually was big on Book when he first got here but as time wore on I could tell he just wasn’t going to take us to the promise land. I have a very good feeling about Angelli. He’s big and as you said, has an effortless arm. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up beating out Buchner.
Also, for WR, all great and fair points. The only thing I’ll add is that I know there’s only so many balls to go around, but I think BK’s offense of play-calling affects the WR’s sometimes. I thought Mckinley should of been used more when he had that monster game his junior year. Only to never be heard of again. I thought Boykin was a big play guy but was used only after the LSU catch. The same is going on with Wilkins and Keys IMO. They’ve made some big catches and had some td’s in the past, only to disappear for game. Either by choice, or by play-calling I don’t know, but watch those guys have good seasons and we’ll be in the same boat as we are not. Only what could be?
So yes, guys need to take responsibility, and injuries occur, but I think our play calling misses the boat when guys get hot. Who cares if Claypool didn’t get 9 catches one game because Wilkins caught 5 balls. That’s how you build an Oklahoma style offense. Feed the hot hand.
BK’s playbook has always been rely on one good receiver for one year(Jones, Boykin, McKinley etc.) and sprinkle in the TE’s occasionally.
jeeze that was long….
