Twitter buzzing with Joseph joining Sark's staff at Texas. Would give Freeman a chance to hire a guy he's worked with. He already has Mickens as well.

Expecting new #Irish defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman to have a mostly new staff on that side of the ball, I’m told. Cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens, who worked with Freeman at Cincinnati, might be lone holdover.

Wow.. Surprised if Elston goes but then again Michigan or Purdue is looking for a DC.

I absolutely want elston to stay.

Totally agree...best coach on the staff for recruiting + developing a stud dline. Love the way he rotates players and having clearly defined roles for each to focus on. Great coach who's always singled out by recruits and would be a kick in the balls to lose him to Purdue. Personally don't see him meshing well with Harbaugh and his oddball personality. So much for another quiet offseason in South Bend! GO IRISH!

Joseph o Texas n may open spot for Kerry Cooks, who used to coach DBs at ND. But Freeman might have wanted the freedom to choose his own staff.

Elston has a job as long as Kelly is the coach and he's not going anywhere. I would have to believe that Elston would value the stability more vs the slight pay upgrade, promotion and the risk that comes with it going elsewhere.

Yeah but i could see Elston leaving after being passed over for DC 3 times now.

Yeah, Particularly if he's considered for the Michigan job where he is an alumni. If I'm him i'm not sure I go to Purdue where Diaco was just fired.

I'm pretty sure M is hiring Mike McDonald, the LB coach from the Ravens as their next DC

Purdue is apparently interested in Elston for DC and D-line coach.

Purdue has had two DL transfer from SEC schools in last few days. Hard to believe that this has happened without having a DC or DL coach (leaving for Illinois) in place.
