Just got a free email that Freeman is at least talking to ND about the defensive coordinator position on zoom.

Yeah he might be the Joe Moorehead to our Tommy Rees. Still think the possibility's there for Mike Elston and Kerry Cooks to be the fallback. Yes I said Kerry Cooks hes currently a defensive analyst for ND.

I can’t see Oregeron getting another 2 years so we should have an edge on that dumpster fire. If we can’t beat out LSU i would think that says a lot about the state of the program.

Β

Not really. Did you see LSU this year?

Huh? You gotta be kidding, man. LSU went from the penthouse to the outhouse plus NCAA infractions and Big Ed might be dumped soon

I read an article about him that left me really impressed. He tailors the defensive scheme to the opponent and constantly switches up to keep them guessing. I see him being a HC in the not too distant future but I would do my best to give him what he needs now. NC or bust money be damned!

Again, you’ll have to accept the fact he won’t be around more than 2 seasons. He’s going to be a HC somewhere soon.

Not this year, especially bc they ended up winning that Florida game.

THis article seems to think that Freeman will end up at ND over LSU (if money the same),

Β

Freeman, who is set to interview with LSU on Thursday, has interviewed twice this week with the Irish (via Zoom and in person, according to 247Sports).

Β

One reason listed is that he played high school football with Mickens.

TBH, did not realize until today that he was African American. Assuming that he is ND's top choice, it would be good for ND to help break down racial barriers at the coordinator level.

ND has a litany of black coaches, don’t make this about something it’s not. This guy is a damn good DC, his race is not a factor.

I am not sure that we are on different sides of this.

Β

I agree that ND has been progressive in this area even having TW as head coach. That said, however, when looking at head coaches and coordinators, blacks are underrepresented in the Power 5 conferences with the Pac 12 doing the best. The two coaching positions that have the highest percentage of black coaches are RB and DB coaches but there seems to be a lack of opportunities at the next levels (coordinators and head coaches).

Β

I still think that ND should hire the best DC they can regardless of skin color but, if it happens to be Freeman, it will help to lift the racial glass ceiling to have a black DC at a high profile school like ND. If they hire someone else, then it sounds as if Freeman will be DC at LSU which is another high profile program.

What about the ceiling for white cornerbacks? Only one RB in the NFL is white. It doesn’t matter, there’s no glass ceiling based on race in football. Not for coaches or players, it’s all bs.

In terms of the NFL, it is open to debate whether or not blacks are underrepresented as coordinators and coaches.

Β

In college, there are probably certain schools that are reluctant to hire a black head coach due to pressure (either explicit or implicit) from key boosters. Given that the head coach needs to be the face of the program and be involved in fund-raising from donors, one can see how racism can come into play.

Β

I believe that there is currently only one black head coach in the ACC, Big 12, and SEC combined. Of the five that have ever coached in the SEC, two have been at Vandy, one at Miss St, one at Kentucky, and one at Texas A&M.

Β

From a player perspective, there is indeed a lack of whites playing DB, WR, and RB. Is this due to discrimination? Perhaps in terms of coaches guiding players into certain positions. Is it due to blacks being blessed with certain physical traits such as greater fast-twitch muscle? Probably a factor given the percent of top black performers in other sports which also mainly depend on speed and quickness (the NBA, sprints and jumps for track)

Β

But unless one believes that there are certain traits wired into one's DNA that makes one a better head coach and that blacks in general lack these traits, one would expect more blacks to be head coaches unless there other external factors at play.

What does underrepresented mean? I mean you have 12% of the population making up 80% of the field. So, the remaining 72% of the population is going to go into coaching at an earlier level and at higher numbers, so it makes sense blacks would be underrepresented in coaching. The fact that the playing field is not 72% white should tell you that all those white guys have to go somewhere...and so they do. There is no quota system on the field and there shouldn't be...nor should their be a quota system in coaching.
