I don't have any reason to think that Kelly is still interested in an NFL job but it has been coming up on sports radio. I have to believe at his age he wouldn't want that type of change.

 

If he does start sniffing around I would be pissed if I were Swarbrick.

 

Also hearing that Meyer is interested in ND if the job ever becomes open. Until recently, I have not been a fan of hiring him. However, he's one of the few coaches that can consistently overcome recruiting issues and the hiring of good assistant coaches. Obviously, the player conduct issues he's been plagued with in the past would have to be a topic of conversation with an understanding reached of the expectations.

 

Kelly seems to only have success if the right assistants are on the staff and I don't think Meyer needs that. I also don't think historically, that his coaches leave the program as much as it takes place at ND. I am tired of losing good assistant coaches so often.

Not going to sweat it, but Kelly has been candid in the past about his aspirations of becoming an NFL coach but has admitted that he's happy at ND having complete control and a member on here said they just moved a house off campus to make room for his new house. Maybe it was Frankus..?

With the money he's making I don't think a million or two million dollar home is going to sway his decision.

I just don’t see Kelly leaving for the NFL at this point. I’d be more concerned if he had NFL experience, but making that jump w/ no NFL background at his age seems unlikely.

 

I don’t think Meyer ever coaches again. That cyst on his brain can kill him, and stress is the biggest cause of that problem. ND is a stressful job, even if you’re one of the greatest coaches ever.

Trend in the NFL now is to hire younger head coaches who are proven OC's or DC 's in the NFL, Think ship has sailed pretty much on older college coaches jumping to NFL

Starting to warm up to the idea of Elston taking over as DC as long as he keeps Lezynski. Hearing great things about him. I thought I read he's an ND grad. If that's the case, I can't imagine him leaving to join Lea.

Meyer is the only “realistic” option I’d take over Kelly. Not Campbell, not Fickell, certainly not Fleck.
