I don’t know how much to read into it, but Clark Lea interviewed for the Vanderbilt HC position. Quite a few candidates did as well, but open up that checkbook ND!

I would hate to see lea go, not an easy coach to replace.

Wouldn't this just be ND lately. Another chance for a title and another distraction. Or somewhat close to it.

According ti the woman AD at Vandy, she has publicly stated she wants an offensive minded coach, who has been a head coach already or is an OC now. Maybe this just was a courtesy interview because he is an alum,

They did just allow a girl play so they are quite polite.

Vandy is rubbish football. Lea would be out of his mind to wallow down there. Wait a year and go hunt a big time program.

He's from Nashville, played at Vandy and leading one of the best defenses and the #2 ranked team. Not to mention a proven recruiter...those are factors which can't be ignored though like everyone else who's an ND fan, praying he stays but one would have to understand Kelly is already on the prowl for his replacement. Coaches have enough ego to believe they can resurrect or win at any school willing to shell out the money to lure them...Lea shouldn't be considered to be any different. Vandy is awful but if anyone understands how to recruit high character, academic oriented talent, it's Lea. Considering the talent which is within 200 miles, he can certainly improve the program from the dumpster fire left behind by Mason. GO IRISH!

This is just a practice interview for him. It's par for the course for a young coordinator to practice. I'm not worried in the least.

Precisely. He'll be a capable hire for a large D1 program when he's ready to jump

Courtesy or not, it's at least a good sign of the state of the program that we have our assistant's interviewing for power 5 head coaching jobs instead of MAC or lower level jobs.

But for his sake, I'd hope he waits. I know it's his alma mater, and he played there, and is from around there. It'd be perfect in those ways. But man, is that a dumpster fire of a program that I don't know if it can get out of it's own way to ever succeed.

At least their kicking game is shored up. Now all he needs is a defense and offense.

Agreed, it is a dumpster fire & probably will always be - being in the $EC exacerbates that. The key is how to measure 'success'. If he can improve them, as Franklin did, while learning the HC chops in a low downside situation... then that is a success. If he can do that, and we know his skill & character first hand, he is a very real 2024 candidate. It is the path that Kelly navigated and Fleck is attempting to travel. Look at the Ara, Saban, and Meyer career stops. not everyone was unicorns and rainbows, but each contributed to their long term success. I would say that Fleck's move was a greater risk - higher profile expectations and pressure, bigger down side.

Just one opinion.

☝️This ?. I get it’s an opportunity but do you want to be the muddy doormat of SEC and eventually be fired after 4 years of sub .500 records?

As I said, impeccable timing for ND anymore. Right before the championship and playoffs....
