This guy was electric prior to his devastating injury. Notre Dame has had some good luck with the transfer portal as well. Plus, with Book presumably leaving, it would be ideal for Buchner to sit behind a proven commodity versus rolling the dice with Pyne or Clark.

Β

Of course, we would need to show interest and he would have to be a RKG. If not Milton, there should be plenty of options available as the portal is booming with more talent every year.

Β

What say you guys? Take Milton or another transfer portal qb, or roll with what we’ve got?

I was actually thinking that, too. I'd take him or another high profile transfer.

Β

Otherwise, all our eggs are in some shaky baskets. Who knows how Buchner will be and the guys currently on the roster - we have no way of gauging their abilities.

Milton beat out Wimbush, so there's that.

I thought Wimbush went there because Miltons leg fell off

Sorry, if that has to be your next in line... the QB development ABSOLUTELY is a failure.

Got me to laugh literally out loud with that one...but I think his leg is still attached but his injury was worse than Jaylon Smith and doubt ND would take a look based on the risk. Nice player but more of a runner than passer correct? With our WR & TE Talent, keep the kids we have + keep bringing in studs each year.

Development is the key word. The Backups are currently a Soph who has taken less than 20 snaps this yr and a True Frosh. Then you have Buchner coming in as a True Frosh next yr. That’s not much time for development

Really not sure about Milton. He hasn’t played since November of 2018, thats a long time bw games.

i'd still be willing to take a chance on him. he's not that big, about the same size as drew pyne but he would be the only qb on the roster with significant college playing time even if it was a couple years ago. I would have to imagine that scott frost and Nebraska would be going after him hard.

McCafferey is 6 ft 5 and mobile. Plus, he has 2 yrs of eligibility left. I think he’s a perfect fit in this offense and gives Buchner 2 yrs to develop,

Is there any reason that the backup QB(s) did not get more snaps this year?

the only thing I could think of would be because spring practice was cancelled and fall camp was weird, the coaching staff probably used the blow out games as practice in order for ian book and his wr's to get extra reps.

Do not want Milton... He is not an answer for us. Damaged goods that is a system qb who played in the AAC. A big no from me. He's a fad...nothing more...so I'm not jumping on this bandwagon.

The guy who couldn’t beat out Shea Patterson or Joe Milton? He might be good, but he’s way more of an unknown versus Mckenzie Milton.

Anyone who watches enough college ball should know to throw the measurables out the window on any given Saturday. Especially ND fans, who’ve gotten to watch three years of Ian Book.

Do you guys think of anyone else that might be out there that would be looking to transfer or has already said they are?

I really think we need a transfer if Book does pull the trigger and go to the Senior Bowl.

Measurables absolutely matter. And he didn’t beat out Patterson as a true Frosh? So what? And who’s to say he didn’t know Michigan was on its way to being a dumpster fire? Hard to imagine he’s not better than Joe Milton, Harbaugh just f’d up.

Im not willing to take a chance on a QB coming from a significant injury that hasnt played in two years and why is he leaving (I thought he was star there). Due to Covid, our scholarship numbers could be very tight. I would rather take one of 5th/6th years coming back if they want to.

Not interested.
