We have everything we need. Good coaching, 40 yr vs 4 yr plan, Mom's want us for their sons, consistent Top 10, early playing time for this year... Are you telling me every freaking 5 star is an idiot in the class room?

Β

C'mon man, let's get Vinnie Cerrato back or something. Yes, I know, midwest, cold, hard academics, ugly girls, (used to be poor facilities, not anymore),, yada yada yada. I WANT SOME 5 STARS DAMNIT! WTH?

me too. it's very disappointing/frustrating that ND hasn't been able to capitalize on the success that this season has brought, was hoping to land a few more big fish at key positions. im sure the covid crap has played a part in this as well.

We have a really good class with the chance to land more

I personally like this class a lot and will explain after signing day.

Reviewing the 5* players on 247, 11 of them are QB or OL. I don't think most would trade our QB or OL class for others. The biggest area of miss with 5* guys is D and WR. Quite frankly most of the D guys had little to no interest in ND. As of now 25 of the 5* stayed in their home state or neighboring state. ND swung and missed on a handful of them for various reasons.

the only thing this class is missing is a big time RB, a few more LB's and big time DL.

And, personally, I am thrilled with our WR class. There's not a Julio Jones in it but what it has is top-end talent at all three WR spots. That's as 'complete' a WR group as any team could hope for in a recruiting cycle. IMhO.

The lack of in person official visits kept ND from a monster class! Still will be a very good class.

I agree, the lack of in person visits will hurt Notre Dame which relies heavily on those to sway some kids.

However, people just have to accept that a lot of 5* talent want to be on the fast track to the NFL with as little work as possible. Plus, kids in general prefer to stay close to home and Indiana is not a football state (I am from IN, it is a basketball state, not a football state). What's important is that Notre Dame lands the 5* from in-state (J Smith, Day, Fisher, etc)

I agree with the general sentiment of fans who wish we could land more of the Top 25 kids but when taking a deeper dive, how many really want the challenge of being a student & athlete at ND when they can play for a program which will allow the emphasis to be on athlete...they've been coddled since Peewee and all have aspirations of playing 3~4 years with the NFL always their goal. Don't discount the high 4 stars we continually recruit plus the annual 5* Olineman or TE. Don't overlook players such as Kyren Williams being a 3* but with the will and desire to succeed not to mention being coached up by an elite RB coat in Taylor. I know the stats play out the higher percentage of 5*'s making it to the league but player development at ND more than makes up the difference and we need no further proof than this year's team for proof. Red shirt, develop with the occasional contributing Frosh and then bring them up once they've had a year in Ballis's program and learning from the upper classmen. Winning will help but ND has a program in place to insure long-term success and this year's class looks to fill needs at all positions and momentum for '22 will continue to build. GO IRISH!

While in person visits may have hurt, us playing a full schedule while others didn’t most certainly helped, so I’d say there was an offset.

I disagree with a full schedule offsetting the lack of official visits. Many recruits have a misperception of what it's like at ND and are often surprised by what they find out in person. At least that's what I've read.

I really like this class so far. Yes, we missed on Shipley, Thornton, Tengwell and Rucci, but I think we got some players.

Our OL class is really good: Caleb Johnson just got bumped to 4* to go along with 5* Fisher and Spindler, who will be a monster. I think Coogan is very under-rated star-wise, plus IL is playing football in the spring so he hasn't had a chance to improve ranking-wise. Alt got a nice bump too.

Β

Buchner will be very good in our offense with his skill set. Too bad we didn't get a chance to see him at higher competition in his new school this fall.

Β

I like the variety in our WR core, with the taller, rangy Colzie paired with Styles, who looks electric. Will be interesting to see how Thomas develops, but he already is really well put together now.

Β

Not sure how credible this is, but SI just rated Berrong as the top TE in the country. I'd love to see Evans stay at TE with his size.

Β

Rubio will be another workhorse on the interior DL. I trust the staff's opinion about Schweitzer. He probably needs to put on 40-50 pounds. I can see Onye turning into our next Ade, which would be a steal if that happens. I think we really need Aupiu for our DL recruiting, so hopefully the staff can flip him.

Β

Prince Kollie will be great at Mike, and Kia could wind up being another less heralded but productive Hawaii LB recruit.

Β

At DB, I really like Riley and Tucker at CB, but Johnson may give some flexibility to move 1 to S if needed. I think Barnes winds up at S. I doubt we land Wright, but he is visiting this weekend on his own dime, so you never know.

Β

At RB, it looks like we may get 1 more out of Edwards, Cardwell or maybe Estime. Edwards would be a home run in my opinion, but I'd be really happy with 1 of the others if we miss there. I really like Estime's size and his film. We definitely need 2 RBs this cycle with Armstrong switching positions and Smith dropping football.

Β

Finally, can't complain about getting the #1 kicker. While I was impressed with his ability to nail 65 yarders at that camp, we really just need someone very accurate from 50 in who kicks it out of the end zone every time on kickoffs. This kid definitely has a lot of leg strength.

I used to really get wrapped up in this recruiting but I think Kelly a d staff have figured out a system kind of Like Tressell did at Ohio State and it worked there and is working here. You have to admit that this team is bigger, stronger and faster than any team we have had in the last 25 years. Sure we have a few stars but never this much talent everywhere. And who the hell runs a jet seep to a 6’5” tight end? We do!

Nice post and another thing in our favor are the kids like Botehlo, the giant German, the WR's, Johnson and Watts...plus those out for the season like Nanah Mensa...building speed and quality depth...key looking forward is who will emerge as the QB. Hoping the reserves get quality minutes today and get good looks at Clark and Pyne. Can't remember if Buchner will be an EE but if so, with the hoped for return of Spring Ball and an actual camp to start the season, who gets the nod will determine what we can expect for the season. Not worried about the Oline as we've got the incoming studs you mentioned plus the highly ranked kids already in the program...I respect Kelly for not being the type of coach who runs up the score but I'm a bit selfish today and hope we're up by enough to get them in no later than the middle of the 3rd Qtr and keep the offensive play calling aggressive. Whole bunch of great reasons to watch the game in its entirety to see the kids! GO IRISH!
