jmfinsd
Fact: Vanderbilt had a female kicker play 1 play today. Fact: First female to play in a Power 5 game, 3rd female to play in FBS game. Fact: Her kick didn't reach an altitude of 5 feet. Fact: Her kick traveled about 20 yards in the air. Fact: Covered on various news episodes and social media platforms. Opinion: Manufactured history. About as historically significant as Geraldo opening Al Capone's vault. This is not about equality/inequality of the sexes, sexism, misogyny, etc. It isn't female bashing. I guess it's just me asking a question - why?

Yep and Vandys kickers were out, they needed someone. There are practice videos out there, she did perfectly fine kicking extra points from what I could tell. Could of used her Friday for that chip shot shank.

I guess I'm a sexist too because I didn't give a **** either. I mean, cool, great for her, I guess? She can say she played one play for the rest of her life. I didn't watch the game, who punted? Did they go for it on 4th every drive?
ckp160
Didn't see, but from what I read.... to include her quotes about the whole thing.... she did exactly what she was asked to do. Good for her, but she wasn't breaking any ground as far as I'm concerned.

Green Goblin
I don’t usually want to mix politics with my football but this got so much hype today that I feel I have to discuss it. She kicked one squib kick and they are interviewing her about how this “changes the lives of little girls everywhere!” Uhhh...does it? Does it really? They had news crews following her around literally all day with the actual promise to let us know right away whenever she did “anything”. So the media had set the bar for success at basically existence for her. How can you not feel patronized at that point? I feel like blowing it out of proportion like that really robs everyone of the actual moment - especially the girl that kicked it.

SpeedsterX
Who really cares? She got her day in the sun, her 15 minutes as it were. If it helps young girls have dreams and inspires any of them, so be it. No one is going to force CFB teams to play certain genders. The "hype" about this for the masses will be gone by next Saturday. Good for her to have her 15 minutes. She ain't hatin' on anyone. We have so many bigger problems like TP hoarders and mask Nazi's.. LOL Live and let live is what I say. Soko
Agreed. They said she was even kicking FGs as long as 38 yards in practice!! I could kick a 40 yard FG now in my work boots. They couldn't find anyone else with a semi live leg to do that job? Of course they could but they knew they were getting walloped and went for the free PR instead. It is a completely bogus story. irishwavend
Desmond Howard wasn’t buying it, because anybody on the team could’ve squibbed it versus looking for a cheap way to get attention. Now, Vandy has two things they can claim about their football team: 1) they’re in the SEC and 2) they allowed the first girl to play in the Power 5. Otherwise, their program is dismal. corysold
I’m torn. Sure it was cool. But it was a publicity stunt. Now, it wasn’t her fault that they got shut out and she didn’t get to kick an extra pint or FG attempt, but they clearly didn’t want her involved in a potential tackle so had her squib kick. I’m sure there has to be an ex Hs kicker on campus who is more capable than her, so in that regard she didn’t earn it. But she can say she did it. Vanderbilt did it solely to get national pub and the media drooled all over it. Mission accomplished for an irrelevant program. Don;t think they would have even given her a chance to try a FG if they were in position to do so in a 41-0 beatdiown.

Great for her 15 mins. It has been done before. I hate kickers in general. To much of the game relies on them for the last second. The bigger question, what if they decided to return and smash her? Whose taking that blame? It does happen for kickers getting blown up once in awhile. Lavar Arrington was probably licking his chops when he saw this moment. Anyways, great for her, but kickers aren’t football players. From every practice we ever did in junior high and highschool, they never ran conditioning with us. They never hit or ran Oklahoma drills with us. They sat in a corner all day everyday kicking extra points and field goals. Get rid of kickers! End of rant.. Then I saw what she went in to do and thought “this is the second lamest thing that will happen in sports today.” This made me laugh out loud. My only follow up question is: What was lamest thing that happened in sports today? This was clearly pandering and if I were her, I would have felt patronized as hell. Good for her I guess, she was asked to do a job and did it, but this does not do anything for women in sports at all. Women (especially the strong women I know) strive for more than being pandered to.

I saw her pregame kicks and it looks like she would have struggled to make an extra point.
