November 28, 20204 yr Author I guess this is the last game they can miss but it sounds like its ripping through the team and next week is in doubt. I think this is bad for us because I think we might have gotten drawn with them in the playoffs and I really liked our chances against them.
November 28, 20204 yr Yes for now, however if the average is below 6 in the whole conference than they can. However, how can anyone say that the they deserve to be in the playoff at this point? ND loses against Clemson, but goes 11-1 against at best 6-0 cmon. Never mind you are right they will luckily play 6 games, not 5. Still 7 wins against marginal teams does not deserve to be in imho. November 28, 20204 yr With big ten 21 day policy for positive cases, how can Ohio St play next week? Just wait for big ten to change policy now that Ohio St impacted
November 28, 20204 yr Just wait for big ten to change policy now that Ohio St impacted This!! However, whether B10 changes policy or not is irrelevant. CFP doesn't have a minimum number of games requirement. While no level-headed, rational person would put a team that plays 6 or 5 games into the playoff, no one has ever used those terms to describe members of the CFP committee.
November 28, 20204 yr Author Herbie just said Ohio State WILL miss the Michigan State game as well. At minimum. OSU is ineligible for the Big14 Championship
November 28, 20204 yr Herbie just said Ohio State WILL miss the Michigan State game as well. At minimum. OSU is ineligible for the Big14 Championship Not technically true yet. If enough teams miss games that the overall average of games played for the entire conference is below 6, they would be eligible again.
November 28, 20204 yr Barring a catastrophe vs Syracuse or Wake Forest (just cancel the wake game at this point, it adds nothing) we will be in the playoff. OSU does not deserve to be in the playoff. I won’t be shocked if we see an all ACC and SEC playoff.
November 28, 20204 yr Not technically true yet. If enough teams miss games that the overall average of games played for the entire conference is below 6, they would be eligible again. So if all the teams miss the bare minimum...They could try and put. 5-0 team in the conference championship. Haha. Sorry, but that would be a joke.

I saw something that said Big 10 needs to cancel 12 of 14 games for Ohio St to make Conf Championship game if they have one more game cancelled
November 28, 20204 yr They're not ineligible for the CFP, the CFP has not established a minimum games played...yet. They could be ruled ineligible for the B1GCG though.
November 28, 20204 yr This has been exactly my point regarding the asterisk. If a team like OSU was ruled ineligible from the playoffs (they wont), then I dont know how anyone can take this year's playoffs seriously.

If a team like OSU was ruled ineligible from the playoffs (they wont), then I dont know how anyone can take this year's playoffs seriously. Again, unless something has changed since midnight-ish this morning, last night after the Oregon/OSU game Heather Dinich reported that the CFP committee has not put in place a minimum games played data point. She did note that OSU would be disqualified from the B1GCG unless there are enough future cancelations/postponements to drop the conference average games played. I don't recall the exact numbers though, I was falling asleep as I was watching it.

Fair point, but I also don't think a team, any team, should be in the playoffs oly playing 5-6 games. ND will have played twice as many games. Clearly that matters. So I think we just have to accept this year is what it is. Besides, I don't see Ohio St beating Clemson, ND or Alabama anyway, so the whole thing it a moot point.
Does this cancellation make them ineligible?
