coltssb
I know this is a lightning rod of a topic. But I think is a important one. If you’re Ian Book do you A) come back next year? B) take your chance in the draft and free agency, or C) retire and go live out your degree? Remember, I believe Book would have another year because of Covid and the NCAA granting another year to all players. He would also be having the whole wide receiving crew back with some continuity. Now he may be losing Kramer, Eichenberg, Banks, and Hainsey. What would you guys do? What do you guys think? Would he want to hear the ND faithful trash him another year? Lest not forget that he could also be a bridge gap for the new frogs new year. Would BK even bring ask him to be back?
FaithInIrish Forever
I'd play another year. Kelly should ask
jimbo
If it was me, I would definitely come back. I don't think he has much of a chance in the draft. Tommy can certainly help him with any negatives coming from the fan base, after all he has first hand experience with that! As long as he still has the passion to play, I think he would jump at the chance at another season as ND QB. And yeah, I think BK would welcome him back. D Fence
I'm not sure what his basis for deciding would be, but the few things that pro scouts would knock him on (arm strength, size, ability to hit the deep ball) won't improve with another year. Now if he enjoys playing with his boys, loves the coaching staff, wants another run at the title, etc. he might stay.
hawaiiirish
Assuming the option to come back is there, he will take it no doubt. He wont have a draft grade worth much ...you really need a very big arm for the NFL,,,,thats no guarantee but i think is a prerequisite. So why not come back...keep putting yourself in the record book...keep raising your personal profile , that can pay off in many ways....no school...why the freak not. The only thing that would discourage him would be kelly encouraging him to go. If kelly really wants to move on with his next star pupil....You tell me if theres anyone on the roster that would inspire kelly to nudge Ian into his next life.....if not...then as hard as it is to believe Ian will be back trying to cement himself in the record books. Ill wait and see before i can wrap my head around that. aloha

He will rationalize I just need one more year to prove myself to the big league. And having another year of education won’t hurt either. Like Hawaii said I think Kelly would have encourage him to move on.
coltssb
In terms of arm strength, that can be improved. It may be a small improvement but it can be done. Much like a baseball player throwing long toss. I think what would help him would be presnap defensive reads and the wideouts being on the same page. Then he would be able to not worry about seeing and pressure coming and be able to simply launch where the receiver should be. I don’t think the receivers are their yet so I think that’s why he struggles with that at times. One other thing I thought about. Who will be going pro this year vs next year. Lawrence, Fields, possibly Jones and Penn St’s guy will all probably go. Meaning next year may be an advantage for Book if he were to stay. Just a thought. Dardo
I do not think book is a good college quarterback. I also don’t know how much of it is his fault. Chip Longs bullshit grab bag offense didn’t do any QB zany favors and Rees is very unproven. Would Trevor Lawrence make ND better? Of course! I don’t think Trevor Lawrence would have looked like Trevor Lawrence if he was coached by Long then Rees with some Kelly mixed in.
ELDER06
I'd play another year. Kelly should ask Disagree. I think you take your chances on a transfer. Go get McCaffrey from Michigan.
Dardo
I'd play another year. Kelly should ask I agree Kelly should ask, but only if he plans on ACTUALLY have a QB battle in the spring/early fall. If the plan is just to go with Book regardless then I’d rather move on. FaithInIrish Forever
Disagree. I think you take your chances on a transfer. Go get McCaffrey from Michigan. if you miss are you ok with 7-8 wins with Clarke or Pyne? I don't think you play a true Freshman. I think we have a gap year that Phil turned down. Hard for me not to think if Book wants to stay he doesn't stay. I mean you could be right CFB free agency worked with McCloud at corner

I mean you could be right CFB free agency worked with McCloud at corner I don’t see it. Mccafrey got beat out at Michigan, was constantly injured, and has thrown exactly 18 passes for 51 percent rate in his college career. And he’s supposed to unseat a three year starter that BK seems to love. If Jurk didn’t happen neither is Mccafrey or anyone else.

JTennant
Waiting for him to cut it loose like he did his first year where he started 9 games.. He was much more instinctive than he is now.
