LB Osita Ekwonu and WR Kendall Abdur-Rahman are now RBs.

The moves to RB seems odd. Get the best athletes on the field is my first impression. With LB and WR seeming to be strengths maybe this is a way to strengthen a group with lots of questions? Or is it more troubling that Jafar, C’bo, and Smith can’t separate themselves from the group and the team needs more than just Tyree and Williams as options.

Maybe we see more multi-back sets?

According to Blue and Gold in June

https://notredame.rivals.com/news/top-notre-dame-position-battles-in-2020

the position battles were

1. Buck Linebacker

2. Running Back

3. Stud Safety

4. #1 Receiver

5. 4th Corner

So I wanna do some research as to how these have turned out.

1 tbd

2 Kyren Williams

3. Crawford

4. Austin when he gets back. I'll go Tremble

5. Hart, Rutherford Wallace. 3,4,5

I wonder if it's because all those guys have been injured at one point. Who can you trust? Also, can't put all your marbles on a undersized freshman whose never taken a snap at the collegiate level. But yeah, the guys we have now weren't exactly highly rated recruits coming in.

There's a reason for the moves to RB that coachspeak is covering.

Armstrong is always snakebit with nagging injuries for one. But who know? They saw potential in both at RB and if you saw their high school tapes, you'd agree they can be helpful there.

Kyren Williams seems to be the guy with a rotation. Think we're going to see lots of Kryen/Tyree. Sounds to me the staff wants speed for sure. I feel they should consider Armstrong at wr some.

Excited to see this offense. Think they could roll.

Completely agree with Armstrong. I would have him run flat, circle and wheel routes all practice long. He could be such a threat if used right. He’s quick enough and big enough to be a mismatch for almost any team.

With switching two players to RB, does it mean that one or two of the following will be switched to another position or do 7 out of 85 roster spots get used for just one position? Is it just a talent issue coming home to roost? If so, is the staff addressing it with the 2021 class? Will there still be 7 or 8 RBs on the roster for the 2021 season?

Jafar Armstrong (247 3 star)

C’Bo Flemister (247 3 star)

Jahmir Smith (247 3 star)

Kyren Williams (247 low 4 star)

Chris Tyree (247 high 4 star)

Avery Davis is still listed as an rb as well. So barring more position changes I count 8 scholarship RBs.

Driskall was saying that he has people close to the program that said it has nothing to do with Armstrong's talent. He can't stay on the field. For whatever reason he is missing time.

Also, a lot of the moves could be chalked up to Covid. We don't know. Kelly did say that because of the 10/14 day rules many players that have been in close contact but not had Covid have missed more time than players with Covid. We have no idea who those players are. This could be playing a part in the rb situation as well. It could also be a reason why Crawford is playing at S.

That sounds most likely domers23.....roster gymnastics probably will go on as long as the season lasts...cant overanalyze with normal references in this odd situation....

That's a good point regarding practice time missed due to quarantine/positive covid tests. I had my fantasy football drafts and there were a couple players that had missed 5ish days of practice due to undisclosed reasons and that has to be Covid, right? It seems weird that we can say "Player X has a sprained ankle" without violating HIPAA but not "Player X was tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday."

K. Williams has been named as number one and C. Tyree is number Two.

Number three has not been named.
