tneun89
Who are we most likely to get out of the 250 targets? I'm most confident ND lands Spindler. It's not a slam dunk and Michigan is a real threat, but based on what I've been seeing lately, I think ND is the clear leader right now. After that, I don't feel great about anyone. In terms of realistic targets, I would list: Dont'e Thornton, Deion Colzie, Ceyair Wright, Brock Bowers, Devin Kirkwood, Prophet Brown, and Deuce Harmon. Of those guys, ND trails UGA for Colzie and Bowers (I think ND is #2 for both, though). Devin Kirkwood seems to be trending UCLA (not sure how hard ND is pushing). COVID really hurt ND for Harmon - he seems to be a heavy Texas A&M lean right now, but if he holds off until he can take some visits, I think ND will be in good shape. ND is recruiting Brown as a CB while others want him at RB - ND made his Top 6, but I don't think they're near the top of that group. It's too early to say for Dont'e Thornton and Ceyair Wright. Thornton isn't planning on committing until January, so ND has plenty of time. Ceyair Wright has a ton of schools after him - I think ND is up there, but I really don't know. I'd say Rucci, Edwards, Fidone, and Johnson are all long shots. ND may be in better shape for Rucci than I'm giving them credit for, but I think they're running third or fourth, at best (behind Penn State, Wisconsin, and Clemson). ND has a ton of ground to make up with Edwards. It sounds like they have been all over him since Shipley committed, but it might be too little too late. I think it's a Nebraska/Iowa/Michigan battle for Fidone. Don't know much about Johnson as he was just offered, but it seems like he will stay South. How many more Top 250 commits do you think Kelly will sign? Last year he had 9 out of 16 position players in the Top 250 (not counting the LS). With a class of 22, surely he will get at least 8 more to land about the same ratio of Top 250 recruits as the 2020 class (9/16 ~ 12/22)? Big23Head
We all may want to discount this recruiting class slightly with regard to rankings. There is a huge amount of evaluation missing with regard to the ranking industry. I agree with tneun89 on the 250. There's Spinlder then a group maybes depending on visits then a group of long shots. If prospects who should be in the Top 250 are not due to incomplete evaluations, then that also means that some current Top 250 players do not belong there. Do the missing evaluations mean that Ohio State's class is not really that good and Kelly's class should be rated higher? jbrown_9999
Is ND ever going to go after top 20 guys again? Since Kelly now wants Top 5 classes, it must mean that he is targeting Top 20 recruits.
coltssb
It does seem early on that we recruit a top 25 guy(Shipley) only to see them drop by seasons end to top 40 guys. I don’t know if that’s because we are trying to lock guys up, guys improve, BK missing out on projecting talent, or sites just trying to get clicks. But our guys tend to fall every year. coltssb
How can they justify moving guys up or down with everything locked down since March? Who knows. That’s probably why I suggested click bait articles. They need something to talk about.
