Saban has now successfully coached a first-round draft pick at every position, with the notable exception of a specialist position. This makes Saban the first coach to have coached a first-round draft pick at every non-specialist position, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

I looked but could not find a list of number of positions active coaches have had drafted in the first round.

Just wondering where Brian Kelly falls on that list. He should be pretty high given that he has coached longer than most coaches (about 30 years).

Does anyone know if he is close to having 22 players drafted in the first round?

Saban should be fired because he's mean and doesn't know how to use email... Isn't that what governs our politics...? Not whether the person is qualified or has the resume to do the job, but whether they're nice and say the right things...

I honestly think you’re brain is broken. Dude asked a football question regarding Kelly and Saban and you answer with this. Chill out man.

Answering my own question.

From what I can tell, in his first 20 years of coaching before he came to ND, Brian Kelly only developed one first round draft pick (Joe Staley). So Kelly still has a way to go to even get to 22 first round picks, much less one at each position. It also appears that he only recruited 6 out of the 10 first round picks he has had.

Kelly's First Round Picks:

DBs: Harrison Smith*,

LBs:

DL: Jerry Tillery

QB:

RB:

OL: Zach Martin*, Ronnie Stanley, Mike McGlinchey, Quenton Nelson, Joe Staley

TE: Tyler Eifert*

WR: Michael Floyd*, Will Fuller

* Recruited by Charlie Weis

Robert hainsey, liam echenberg, kyle Hamilton are all possible future first round picks.

Honestly, I don’t know about Hainsey or Eichenberg. They both still have time to grow, obviously, but neither seems particularly close to the guys ND has had go in the 1st round over the last 5 years or so. I’m no oline expert though, I could be wrong.

Hamilton has the highest ceiling of any DB in recent memory, including Harrison Smith. I hope Lea and company stay around to help him reach it.

I don't think Hainsey has the size to be a 1st Round pick, even though he graded out as ND's best OL last season (per PFF).

I can definitely see Eichenberg as a 1st Rounder if he improves like McGlinchey did between his Sr. and 5th year seasons. McGlinchey was no lock to go in the 1st Round, much less the Top 10, when he started his 5th season.

Hamilton. Yes. Definitely.

I'll through JOK out there. He is an absolute freak physically. Not sure what LB position he translates to in the NFL, but I can definitely see him as a 1st Round pick.

Kevin Austin as potentially another, but way, way too early to say. Just think he has the physical tools necessary to be a 1st Round WR.

Way down the line, Michael Mayer and Rylie Mills.
