And the football season starting on time affects this scenario in no rational way.

ย

It does, bc thereโ€™s a lot of jobs dependent on those football games. ND has the $ where theyโ€™ll be fine, but imagine the hit to the economy of Athens, GA or Starkville, MS if thereโ€™s no season.

Iโ€™m very thankful to not have kids and still have a job. However, for those of you chastising me, go back to when you were 40. I imagine most of you had a family. Now think about being in this situation where you lose your job and nobody in your field is hiring. Why? Bc thereโ€™s an increased risk people over 65 might die from this new infectious disease. Well, youโ€™re not 65, youโ€™re young and healthy, what are the risks to you? You have less than a 2% chance to die from it. Wouldnโ€™t all of you gladly take that 2% risk if it meant getting back to work and supporting your family?

I'm 36, have 3 kids and my business has been decimated beyond belief. We will keep things going to the best of our ability but it's about survival mode now.

ย

And I still support the current measures. We will get back on our feet in good time but I prefer to know that the correct precautions are being taken before jumping back in two footed and end up right back where we started. Football can be played behind closed doors for the season. It will be weird but it's most likely going to be what happens.

But thereโ€™s a vocal group of ppl that believe we should be shutdown until thereโ€™s a vaccine. That would very likely be 1.5-2 yrs. Do you honestly think you could hold on that long?

I am 42, have 3 kids and I think this is insane. But I am playing along for now. I also can work from home.

No chance. One more week and i'll be looking for orphanages.

ย

But it's not about a final, all inclusive solution. The purpose of restraint now is to slow the spread until states are in a position to deal with this via PPE and testing. It's not a vaccine or nothing. Things will begin to open up slowly soon.

I can even understand waiting another month and opening mid May. However, thereโ€™s going to be a material amount of ppl who will **** and moan about reopening without a vaccine. Those are the people I have real issues with. They complain about the economy opening up too soon but donโ€™t offer any realistic timetable.

I donโ€™t think the current measures in most states are โ€œinsaneโ€(excluding Michigan), but there has to be a tangible plan to get back to work. I too work from home, but I have empathy for all the small businesses and employees who lost their jobs. All of these azzholes grandstanding with ideas this is the apocalypse need to grow some balls.

Iโ€™m 47...closing in on 48 fast. My kids are all young, 14, 13, and 6 very soon. This is scary...I listed a bunch of stuff earlier here. In Philadelphia numbers are still rising but the talk is opening back up.

Someone is lying...I still donโ€™t know which side is.

But with the way things are moving we will find out.

Either Trump is sacrificing lives for a big economy which will get him re-elected or this is overblown in hopes of derailing the economy which is the only way Trump will loose.

ย

I donโ€™t know and Iโ€™m hoping I donโ€™t know someone who will pay the price either way.

This is/was a free country, we all have a right to decided what is best for ourselves. You talk about the one guy you know who got it, what about all of these athletes who got it and fully recovered in a few weeks? Everyone is difft, but Iโ€™m done living in a fโ€™n police state indefinitely bc you guys are scared. Your last paragraph about Trump is exactly why your opinion isnโ€™t worth listening to. You care more about using this to say โ€œorange man badโ€ than point out the original source of the issue. This is fโ€™n Chinaโ€™s fault and you guys have TDS so bad, youโ€™ll do anything to turn this on him. Itโ€™s like being more upset with the firefighters response time then the arsonist who burned your house down.

ย

Under other circumstances you might be right. But when dealing with a virus that can be asymptomatic in many while lethal in others, you don't (and shouldn't) have the right to unknowingly spread the disease by likening it to something ss tangible as other clearly defined rights.

ย

Youre being asked to stay at home because you might not even know you have it while you could be ingorantly passing off something that could be deadly to someone else...for reasons that the world's premiere health experts cant answer yet.

ย

Give yourself a haircut, be happy the liquor stores and considered essential, and shut the fu(k up.

No. The people that are at high risk should stay home, the rest of us have lives to live. And the whole point of quarantine was to flatten the curve, not to prevent spread entirely but keep the HC system from being overwhelmed. These shifting goal posts are obvious.

ย

Your last paragraph is exactly what some of these authoritarian Governors want. They want their citizens to be drunk/high, fat from fast food and no exercise and dependent on them for $. Wake the fck up.

Not really, look at whatโ€™s going on in Michigan. Theyโ€™re trying to take away pplโ€™s ability to provide for themselves. Hunting and Fishing are the most socially distant activities you can partake in.

ย

Also, look at the stimulus hold up. They want the population to be stuck on the govt tit bc that gives them control.

Thatโ€™s the problem. Fox News was always right wing trash, CNN used to be a trustworthy news source. Now, theyโ€™re no better than Fox News. Weโ€™re facing global chaos and we donโ€™t have an unbiased news source to turn to.

One thing that most don't think about in this discussion. They say we are flattening the curve. What does that really mean? It means we are saving people because the hospitals can handle the load of sick. If we didn't flatten the curve more would die sooner, our front line fighters would die. So staying the course at this point is good.

ย

The CDC wants these guidelines in place to stay going forward, but eventually the virus will make itself known to every town in every county in each state and every country in the world. Most will actually get the virus. So the self quarantine should be in place for 6 months in many places. This buys time to prove out and manufacture mass quantities of therapeutics and get closer to a vaccine.

ย

However, a 3 month or a six month shutdown will kill way more than the virus, most businesses will fail and leave behind unemployed people, who used to work for great companies and now are broke financially and mentally.

ย

So at some point soon, we will have to open things back up, do everything we can to get the the vulnerable to the time of a vaccine and try to tip the scale to the side of saving the most lives.

ย

There is no 100% right answer. We don't have a template to follow for a country of our size and there isn't a template for us to follow when the 2nd round comes.

ย

I pray for the President, his teams, the Governors, that they make the right decisions and of course all of the people who are truly affected.
