Itโ€™s more than a new flu...your oversimplification of it is ridiculous.

ย

Look what it is doing in long term care facilities and retirement homes... thatโ€™s not a basic flu...

ย

Way to be myopic.

ย

Key: Long Term Care and Retirement homes. Why should young people stay quarantined for them? Seriously, are we worried about hurt feelings?

Michigan ....you canโ€™t buy paint at Home Depot? F that.

ย

Wow are you serious Home Depot is closed in Michigan not here in New York they are deemed essential, really. I think some states have really gone over board and I donโ€™t blame people for getting upset. One state even closed liquor stores ....now come on talk about essential.

ย

From what I have read we have made great advances in testing, medicines, vaccines....even NY has surplus ventilators now. If there is a second wave the severity will be nothing like the first.

You are a fool if you think this is just affecting that demographic...

HD isnโ€™t closed but thereโ€™s only a few things you can but from there. You canโ€™t buy paint, building supplies, or arts and crafts. You also canโ€™t hunt, fish, garden or drive to any other homes you might own in state. Also factor in that liquor stores and lotto ticket stands are โ€œessentialโ€ and it seems like an underhanded way to keep the masses drunk and poor dependent on that govt check.

You are a fool if you think this is just affecting that demographic...

ย

I think itโ€™s the vast majority and the stats bear that out. We all should be done sacrificing our freedoms bc of this slightly worse flu that has over a 98% survival rate for anyone under 65 without a medical condition. Think about that, you guys are willing to live in this sh*t hope socialist society indefinitely for something thatโ€™s not much worse than the flu. Itโ€™s amazing how willingly you guys are to give up everything out of fear.

How are people too dumb to realize with no change to China, theyโ€™ve basically got a gun pointed at us. Anytime they want, they can do this again, and it wonโ€™t matter how effective the response is, weโ€™ll still be in this situation

This will be my last post in either of the thread we have on this.

ย

Some of us arenโ€™t living in fear, weโ€™re living it. Iโ€™m currently typing this on a sh!tty blow up mattress on my basement floor. Last night we got the dreaded call from employee health that my wife had medium risk exposure to a COVID positive patient who displayed NO symptoms prior to their interaction.

ย

Home life as we know it has changed drastically in the last month and did again last night. The ripple effect of this call doesnโ€™t affect you in the least, and I wonโ€™t bore you with my own life but it affects many in mine - young and old. I too work with medically fragile clients who need me - that is all on hold. So the virus isnโ€™t just the issue. My wifeโ€™s unit isnโ€™t a COVID unit but it is now. What does that mean? Cardiac surgeries are on hold. So heart patients are dying or not getting procedures. Same with other specialty units. The entire health care system is on hold for this. In a few weeks you are going to see that loosening the reigns too early will be a huge mistake.

ย

You told us you were in your 30โ€™s. A good friend of mine in his 30โ€™s got it. The dude is fit as anyone I know, healthy and strong as an ox. Iโ€™ve never met you, but Iโ€™d still bet a 12 pack that he could probably whip both our a$$es. I know what this virus did to him and he would tell you youโ€™re dead wrong.

ย

In times like this I think of everyoneโ€™s favourite boardie and what this would do to someone in his condition. Heโ€™s a young guy who deserves the best live the rest of us can provide him with. Look beyond your own selfishness and think of others. I know there is an economic component to your argument, but we will recover from this. It may take time, but we will bounce back.

ย

I have to laugh that three weeks ago, your leader was so afraid of us up here that he discussed militarizing our shared border; today he wants to open the flood gates. So glad our leadership scoffed at it. Itโ€™s too soon...

ย

I realize this is random jabber, but I slept like sh!t...

This is/was a free country, we all have a right to decided what is best for ourselves. You talk about the one guy you know who got it, what about all of these athletes who got it and fully recovered in a few weeks? Everyone is difft, but Iโ€™m done living in a fโ€™n police state indefinitely bc you guys are scared. Your last paragraph about Trump is exactly why your opinion isnโ€™t worth listening to. You care more about using this to say โ€œorange man badโ€ than point out the original source of the issue. This is fโ€™n Chinaโ€™s fault and you guys have TDS so bad, youโ€™ll do anything to turn this on him. Itโ€™s like being more upset with the firefighters response time then the arsonist who burned your house down.

Truly sorry to hear but believe it or not you are not the only family on here living through this pandemic first hand! Still others who are also experiencing the same first hand experience do not share your views on how we should proceed forward.

Honestly, I feel like sh** for not thinking about him at this time. But youโ€™re right, Rocket, โ€œour one favoriteโ€ boardie is a high stakes candidate for this. Just for that reason, I would had booted Elderโ€™s *** just for that. Go to another board with that โ€œliberateโ€ crap. And donโ€™t bring up freedom to express your opinion. He has freedom to ban you for your carelessness. But whatever. Iโ€™m done also. Itโ€™s trolling at this point. The only one who is truly scared is him which is weird because this president has said numerous times that he is opening up the boarders. Whatโ€™s there to be scared of?...

25 million unemployed is a reason to be scared. You donโ€™t have the foresight to see that the cure is worse than the disease if this keeps up. Who cares if we cure a disease that has a 98% survival rate if we have 100 mm+ unemployed? You think that high of unemployment wonโ€™t cause more deaths?

Iโ€™m sympathetic, but even if I got the virus, Iโ€™d still expect people to understand that we canโ€™t protect everyone. This is no way to live for an extended period of time. Once more, Iโ€™m still very angry thereโ€™s not more discussion on what to do with China. All of you needle diks who think this is all on Trump are greatly missing the point. Until China is dealt with this will always be hanging over our heads.

Elder....I will join Rocketsan with my last post about this,,,clearly.. empathy , compassion, concern for your parents, collective responsibility, duty to the healthcare workers on the front line, the many younger people who have suffered death and damage from this blight etc etc all the many obvious, sound reasons that have triggered social distancing world wide,,,none of that seems to break through to you.....so I who am in your throwaway demographic over 60, those that just aren't worth the sacrifice....let me offer one last reason to wait and phase in economic activity AFTER we gain substantive control over this virus with social distancing....you may see our demographic as a waste of life anyway, locked away in nursing homes....but that's not really the full picture,,,actually by HUGE margins,,,the over 60 demographic controls the majority share of wealth and power in this society :-P....so the message from us to you is SUCK IT UP!

The country is so grateful to the healthcare workers who have shown such dedication and courage during this pandemic, I don't know if I would share those traits in their position...much respect!!

I have nothing but respect for the elderly and by no means am I suggesting theyโ€™re disposable. However, I donโ€™t think we should sacrifice our economy when the VAST majority of young people in the workforce arenโ€™t at any real risk. Iโ€™d say you guys are the ones lacking in empathy for the 25 mm ppl who lost their jobs. You guys keep saying thereโ€™s tons of ppl under 60 who died from this and itโ€™s not true. What is a fact, 3000 ppl under the age of 50 died from the flu last year and nobody was worried about it then.

Edited by ELDER06

Iโ€™m very thankful to not have kids and still have a job. However, for those of you chastising me, go back to when you were 40. I imagine most of you had a family. Now think about being in this situation where you lose your job and nobody in your field is hiring. Why? Bc thereโ€™s an increased risk people over 65 might die from this new infectious disease. Well, youโ€™re not 65, youโ€™re young and healthy, what are the risks to you? You have less than a 2% chance to die from it. Wouldnโ€™t all of you gladly take that 2% risk if it meant getting back to work and supporting your family?
