February 26, 20204 yr comment_713727 Combine is a huge predictor of where kids are drafted. Maybe too much imo. Our boys, hopefully, will shine and increase their stock. Love watching these young men taking the next step and represent Notre Dame.
February 27, 20204 yr comment_713740 WRs and TEs did the bench today. Claypool had 19 reps, good for 5th overall amongs WRs. Finke had 7, good for dead last. Kmet did not do the bench. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Notre Dame’s Chase Claypool with 19 reps of 225<br><br> <a href="https://t.co/6rzg58YERX">pic.twitter.com/6rzg58YERX</a></p>— PFF Draft (@PFF_College) <a href=" ">February 26, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

February 27, 20204 yr comment_713750 Clearly he was the best option. They didn’t run him out there for sh!ts and giggles. Yes because we have never seen an upperclassman play ahead of a more talented younger player in BK’s tenure. I hope you are being sarcastic?

I have no idea how he was a starter for a football program that wants to compete for national championships. 7 reps at 225 equates to something around 270 to 275 max. Most HS kids cannot bench 275, especially WRs. That said, someone who has been in a strong Div I S&C program (such as ND's) should be able to do better.
February 27, 20204 yr comment_713764 I think people are making too much of Finke. Yes, it was super low, but there were a few other guys in the single digits as well. He is 5-9, 185. The bench press is not going to make or break his (slim) NFL hopes. His game is not lining up on the outside and beating press coverage. It's lining up in the slot and beating a linebacker, safety, or nickel with his speed/elusiveness. It'll be interesting to see what he runs. I know some ND media members think he will be around 4.40 or below, which I think is absolutely nuts. I was thinking closer to 4.45. But maybe they know something we don't.

Finke is quicker than fast, I’d be shocked if he runs under a 4.5.

Bench Press is probably going to be gone from the combine soon anyways. It is not the best predictor of strength, but moreso weight room dedication. Fwiw, Hunter Renfroe only had 7 reps last year, and he was a starter on a national champion team and had a good first year in the NFL. Someone like Finke isn't going to wow teams with his strength anyways. If he wows teams it will be in his speed drills.

Most HS boys could not bench one. Maybe a few football linemen could do 4-5. A slot receiver or punt returner needs to be quick and strong hands. Not benching 225 pounds.
