Waiting to hear from the Kelly homers. Can't wait to hear all the excuses. The weather was bad...Michael Young...the Irish are young...next year is going to be our year...injuries...it was a hostile environment...it was dark out...the stadium lights were to bright...the TV annoucers have it in for ND...the game started to late...

Did I leave any excuses out???

When are people going to admit that with Kelly this is it.Decent regular season record (with 8-9 wins guaranteed thanks to a weak schedule), a decent bowl game and a nice payout for getting into the Pinstripe Bowl. Repeat season after season...Kelly pads his win loss record and ND keeps the money pouring in.

Who has Fleck beaten is such an ignorant statement. That's not at all how you judge a coach who is at a bottom tier P5 school with hardly a speck of talent. He elevates the talent he has and motivates kids to play for him. That's far more than you could ever say about Kelly, that takes 4 star talent and makes them play okay on most days.

What’s ignorant is thinking a guy who hasn’t beaten or even been competitive with the big programs in the B10 is worth firing Kelly for. Seriously, there’s no evidence to suggest he’s capable of winning at ND. He’s beating the dregs of the B10, so what? MN wasn’t hopelessly bad before he got there. In fact, they were 9-4 before the season he took over.

It’s like all of these Sports talking heads. They latch onto to a particular player or narrative and basically stake their reputation to support these ideas. Like Cowherd with Baker Mayfield. If Baker plays well, he’s silent or he’ll play it down. Then when he sucks, he plays it up to the nth degree to say “ I told you so.”

Well it is a discussion board and nd just lost by 4 touchdowns to a mediocre michigan team. But yes all is well and how dare anyone criticize the coach

I think most everyone here is agreeing its Kelly's job until he leaves by his own choice.

I think people here are complaining knowing its one of the coldest seats in cfb and Kelly knows it.

If ND wins the next five games this year, it will be NDs best winning percentage by decade since the 1970s.

I don’t think the program is perfect, but it’s in great shape and an attractive proposition for the next HC.

Criticize, yes. Calling for him to be fired, no.

It should be fairly cold. He built the program up to get to a playoff just last Year. Now, if they collapse the rest of the yr, like in ‘14, then the seat needs to get warm.

The problem I have with this line of thinking is that Kelly hasn't beaten anyone but the equivalent of the "dregs of the Big 10" these last 2 years. PJ and Minnesota will probably finish 9-3 this year, losing to the only good teams he's played. BUT THAT'S WHAT KELLY DOES MORE YEARS THAT NOT AND HE HAS MORE TALENT THAN MINNESOTA CAN DREAM OF!

No one is 100% sure Fleck/Campbell/Rhule/whoever the next young, up and coming guy is will win anything of import at ND. But more and more people feel Kelly will never win anything of import either, and at least Fleck comes off like he gives a ****.

Some are calling for him to be fired. Some are discontent with the fact that he doesn’t appear to be capable of leading this team over the biggest bumps in the schedule.

Who would be a perfect fit? See, you totally invalidate the rest of your post by not giving any names.

If you would like you can go back and rummage through the coaches I’ve mentioned in the past since this seams to be a talked about issue every two years. But I’ll go ahead a give you thee name that will make your insides turn and testicles fill with joy. -Urban Meyer.

This is about the only thing Paul Finebaum has right, ND should go after Urban Meyer. He’s right for the picking and he would definitely listen to ND. He knows he would be on the MT. Rushmore of coaches if he could pick up one more championship with ND. ND would just have to pay him and give him a few recruits every year. Which I’m ok with.

I also wouldn’t mind interviewing Fleck, McDaniels, Rhule, and Robert Saleh.(49ers d-coordinator). YouTube him.

Meyer first then start you process of everyone else.

And I’ve said multiple times, I would push Kelly to the side for Meyer. I’m not sure that will happen given the circumstances that led to him retiring at OSU. McDaniels is the heir apparent in NE, Rhule and Saleh will get NFL jobs. Fleck hasn’t proven enough to make me think they should fire Kelly for him

He did beat down a USC team in 2017 that went to the Cotton Bowl. He also beat a Michigan team that played in the Peach Bowl.

I’m tired of hearing about Fleck, those of you riding his jock now will be the first to turn on him when he struggles.

I think ND fans, more than most, are just scared of losing the next Urban Meyer. Now Fleck is never going to win something equivalent of a BCS bowl like he did at Utah over a hapless Pittsburgh team. If that was his goal, he probably should have not taken a job at a bottom P5 team.

Didn't see anyone else mention it (could've easily missed), but did anyone else see Finebaum say that ND should buy out BK and hire Meyer on ESPN? Lol....

Edit: Nm just saw the thread...

But he should beat someone of merit or at least be competitive. In 3 of their next 4 games, they play Penn St, Iowa, and Wisconsin. If they win 1 game and are competitive in the other 2, then maybe we can talk about him being the next big thing in coaching.

Does Kelly have supporters? I haven't read too much praise on here over the years. I still think that college athletes need to be motivated. This is why I prefer a coach who can be tough, yet can motivate players to go beyond. Kelly is and will always be a CEO-like coach and not an emotional motivator. It works some times but when adversity hits, it usually becomes the antithesis of motivation. Sign me up for a motivator whenever Kelly decides to go pro.
