Waiting to hear from the Kelly homers. Can't wait to hear all the excuses. The weather was bad...Michael Young...the Irish are young...next year is going to be our year...injuries...it was a hostile environment...it was dark out...the stadium lights were to bright...the TV annoucers have it in for ND...the game started to late...

Did I leave any excuses out???

When are people going to admit that with Kelly this is it.Decent regular season record (with 8-9 wins guaranteed thanks to a weak schedule), a decent bowl game and a nice payout for getting into the Pinstripe Bowl. Repeat season after season...Kelly pads his win loss record and ND keeps the money pouring in.

It was terrible and Kelly deserves to be dragged for this. However, Meyer had back to back seasons with blowout losses on the road to inferior talented teams. Even great coaches have horrible games. Kelly isnโ€™t close to the level of Meyer, but heโ€™s proven himself a good coach

ย

BUT....do Meyers teams show up when they matter? Whatโ€™s his record vs top 20 always games? Whatโ€™s his record in big bowl games? That is the underlying issue here.

F*** off. There's your answer to someone who has no real answer for a replacement.

ย

At this point, I'd take Fleck for sure. They can say he hasn't beaten anyone with his undefeated Gophers, but it always gets overlooked that he also doesn't have anywhere close to the talent pool he'd have at ND.

ย

Minn was 5-7, then 7-6, and now sits at 8-0 under his watch. Continuous improvement, which is the only thing I've ever expected of BK. That upward trajectory means he can take the talent he inherits and create success with it as he slowly injects the players he recruits.

ย

Now imagine he can recruit the players he wants that are several echelons higher in terms of talent by boasting about education and the promise of the national spotlight.

ย

That's precisely how you identify "up and coming" coaches that deserve consideration.

ย

He's young, energetic, and prime for the picking. If we don't get him, USC or FSU will.

ย

With all that being said, I'm convinced we are stuck with BK for at least another 5 years.

Frankus said they moved an old house or two to clear room for coach's new house close to campus.. Not that a million dollar home is a big deal to coach but that implies he plans on finishing his coaching career here I think.

ย

ย

He was quoted saying ideally he'd like to get 2-3 more years on top of his current contract before he calls it a career.

We can just hold out hope that an NFL team like the Redskins will throw the dice on him...or that he waddles his a$$ on back to D2 (or lower tier D1) where he belongs. The former option would be better, as I doubt he leaves ND on his own fruition without a larger paycheck.

ย

My personal wet dream is that one of our perennial rivals lures him away. I'd look forward to a guaranteed W....

Meyer has offset his bad losses with some really good wins.

ย

I forget, what is Kelly's record in big time games? His record in BCS Bowls?

ย

Kelly is a good to very good coach but has a low probability of winning a championship based on his results to-date. He has been a 9 win a year coach at ND and is pretty much on that pace again this year.

I agree, but I think that low probability of winning a title is still higher than 95% of college HCs. Aside from Dabo, Saban, and Lincoln Riley, who has proven they can win a National Title anywhere, much less at ND? Kirby Smart, great recruiter, chokes in big games. James Franklin was 0-11 vs Top 10 teams on the road before beating Iowa this yr. Harbaugh was under more scrutiny than Kelly before this week. All of you guys who slobber over Fleck, who the hell has he beaten? Jeff Brohm hit a slump this yr. Matt Campbell has had his ups and downs. Orgeron hasnโ€™t won anything yet, Todd Herman has Texas looking worse than ND. Malzahn seems to produce the most bipolar results of any coach. Either theyโ€™re competing for a Title/Playoff or theyโ€™re missing a Bowl all together. Mullen has a respectable track Record, but itโ€™s not any better than Kellyโ€™s.

ย

I canโ€™t stand this idiocy that we could somehow replace Kelly with just anyone and come out the same or even better. Thatโ€™s not realistic. Itโ€™s this moronic fantasy football culture that has trickled down into football itself.

Who has Fleck beaten is such an ignorant statement. That's not at all how you judge a coach who is at a bottom tier P5 school with hardly a speck of talent. He elevates the talent he has and motivates kids to play for him. That's far more than you could ever say about Kelly, that takes 4 star talent and makes them play okay on most days.

Let me know of your opinion next year when they play Clemson. You think this beating was bad, try a experienced Lawrence and all his weapons against a depleted secondary-Elliot, Crawford, Gilman, Pride all gone.

ย

There are plenty of guys that might be the perfect fit for the ND job. But youโ€™re too scared to take the plunge. Pete Carroll was a failed coach in the NFL and look what he did at USC.

ย

Iโ€™m tired of BK. I just watched his presser. He is so relaxed and calm at his position now. Heโ€™s not a coach anymore. Heโ€™s a above average CEO. What coaching did he do on Saturday during the rain? I saw a lot of arms crossed cowardly looking across the field. It was a true โ€œWaterboyโ€ moment for me. I didnโ€™t see him rip off his hat and show the guys to stop crying about the rain and play big boy football. This team looked just like him on the sidelines, cold, uninterested, and beat like a mangy dog. Teams take after their coach, and right now I would not want to go to a pie fight with BK. He might be scared he would get custard on his bomber jacket...

I think it comes done to whether or not a fan is happy with "guaranteed" John Cooper results or would they rather take a chance on someone who could be either the next Urban Meyer or be just as bad as Ty Willingham?

ย

Another example is the "Deal or No Deal" question. Would you rather take a guaranteed $10,000 vs a one in six chance at $66,000? There is no right or wrong answer but the answer will differ from person to person.

ย

Some focus on the chance to end up with nothing and are glad to have $10K. Others do the math and would rather go for the expected value of $11,000 and can live with themselves if they end up with nothing.

ย

I have done the latter. I paid $500 for an elimination raffle ticket that had a one in ten chance to win $20,000. I lost but I would gladly do the same thing every single time.

Do you get the sense that BK would ever tell his players to save Jimmy Johnson for himself? Instead, I see him saying something like "fellas, remember to focus on the traits we have emphasized since the pre-season"

2 bucks we knock the old-school snot out of everyone the rest of the season.

My favorite moment was Claybook yelling at Book on the sidelines and Book holding up his wet hands and whining. Kelly looked completely disinterested in the argument and just wanted to go back to scowling and not caring.

I think Kelly can eventually win a title, if the chips fall in the right place. Heโ€™s not a Larry Coker or Mark Helffrich where he inherited talent, he built this program. Now, if he leaves on his own accord, Iโ€™m ok with making a risky hire
