If anyone watched the Penn State-Michigan game then I assume you saw Hamler torch the Michigan secondary. They are going to play man and we should have some favourable matchups if they put their safety Metellus on our slot receiver.

Not saying Lenzy is Hamler cause that dude has next level quickness, but he’s the closest we got. I’m afraid we are going to trot out Finke in the slot which doesn’t allow us to exploit their biggest weakness on defense.

If there’s any game to throw it all over the yard it is this one. Claypool and McKinley should be mismatch nightmares with their size in man coverage.

Agreed that Lenzy would be ideal. I don't know if he's ready to get 15-20 snaps, but maybe he can get 5-10 and be targeted multiple times. Lenzy has to be faster than Hamler, and Hamler made it look so easy when he was matched up against Metellus. Finke has been awful this season (although he was better against USC), but I think he can be a weapon on Saturday. Just need to get him in space against an LB or S.

There is going to be a lot of man coverage and one-on-one matchups. Book needs to get the ball to Claypool. He is ND's best receiver and a nightmare for smaller corners. I think he could go for 100+ yards and a TD or two. Book is going to need to let it loose and take some chances downfield. That dink-and-dunk stuff will not work against this defense. Don Brown loves to blitz, so there should be plenty of opportunities to exploit that with the passing game. I think Kmet can also have a huge game.

Not to sound like “Wedding Crashers,” but I think Book can exploit the hot route over and over again with blitzing linebackers. He just has to have the knowledge pre-snap. I also said this in another thread but I wish this team would use the TE screen and rb draws this game. Those are perfect play-calls for teams that love blitzing every down. We need to use their aggressiveness to our advantage.

There's this article in today's South Bend Tribune quoting Sam Mustipher saying how well Book sees the field. The problem is that, despite our offensive line doing very well, Book does not do well with pressure. This is a bellwether game for him. He knows what he's going to see, he know what he needs to do. He'll either do it or not.

Is Sam Mustipher watching the same games we are? I think his height is a factor here.

What he does do well is sense pressure. I think everyone has noted concerns with how he panics at the first sign of pressure. It’s probably why he’s rarely sacked, but it also kills many drives.

He senses pressure well. Just needs to keep his eyes down field and not turn his back so much. It takes 2 or 3 seconds to turn and reestablish where everyone is.

He needs to just chill and take what the defense gives him. Agree screens and reverses will slow down that rush.

Disagree. The defense is going to give him a bunch of short passes for 3-5 yards, which will be followed by a false start, putting ND in 3rd and 8.

Book needs to start being agressive and taking from the defense, rather than being given small chunks of yardage. Michigan is good enough on D that ND won't sustain 10+ play drives.

You beat the Michigan defense with big plays over the top against the man coverage. Sometimes you need to throw a 50/50 ball and hope your guy gets it. Book rarely does that.

This is a make or break game for Book. We’re going to learn a lot about him after this game, and if we lose I would bet Book does not play very well.

Shovel passes to Jones/Kmet/Lenzy?

So many times I have seen Book bail right or left when many times it just requires him to step up past the pressure. That is his pattern.
