This is when we will win championships. Everyone on this board is satisfied with the almost had attitude... I can see if this was our first lost to any sec team. But it doesn't matter what conference it is we lose to every conference's top tier teams. So you can say they played well, they hung in there. THIS ISNT YOUR CHILD KELLEY GETS PAID TO BEAT TEAMS LIKE THIS AND HE HASNT DON IT YET. how much longer do you settle for mid level coach.

To me, quality of depth matters. We have been picking up good talent and filling in gaps with 3 stars. It’s just not enough. Seems like a no-brainer. I firmly believe the Fighting Irish win yesterday with a solid running game, regardless of coach shortcomings. To me, that’s frustrating. We’ve had good luck with breakout RB’s in the last few seasons, even with the controversy of off-field issues. If somebody would simply step up to the plate this season. Likewise, we just can’t get that balance due to lack of talented depth. We’ve had pretty good def backs & lusted a solid secondary. This season, the LB’s are a short of dominant.

With that said, I think we have a really good idea of who this team is this season, but with some showing of improvement. Last season was a question markafter damn near every game

Fair title..BUT....we haven't been "close" in these games in the past. we have been smacked to a tune of 44-24 before. Not even "close" or "worthy" to be on the same field with these other elites. Yesterday was a game that showed they have the talent finally and can get an upset if ND plays right. We are close, now we just have to finish. I couldn't say that before to an opposing fan without doubt in the back of my mind.

Most programs in the country would love to have ND’s coaching staff.

First , your wrong again, everyone on this board IS NOT satisfied with we almost had.

Second, if you could not see the improvement of this team over past ones you must be blind. The defense Is visually faster, more athletic, and has more depth then we have had in a long long time.

Bottom line we lost and someone has to be responsible for it right, so let’s blame Kelly. And he didn’t even make the decision to throw a pass on third and long with 2 minutes left.

Bk will be here until he chooses to leave. You may not like that and personally I've gone back and forth on kelly over the years but have accepted that at this point. Nd hadnt had back to back 10+ win seasons since 92-93 before last year and they have a good chance to make it 3 in a row this year. That may not be good enough for you but it is good enough for those that have the power to make changes.

Ive accepted that kelly will be here for probably another 4 or 5 years so I hope he can at some point win a game like this and if he cant then I hope he leaves the cupboard full enough that another coach can build on what hes done and take us over that final hump that kelly seemingly cant.

As an nd fan I have to hope kelly can do it because hes our only option for the next few years regardless how many angry capital letters you throw on a message board. But if he cant then you cant deny he'll leave the program in a healthier place then he found it in and hopefully the next man in will keep trending up

This is true. I feel like the only mandate to Kelly is "dont embarrass us". So these close games are enough to keep him here forever. And why not? The team is more exciting to watch as has been pointed out in other threads. We need to be realistic. For Clemson Bama GA etc it is a recruiting fail when they dont get a couple five stars. For us it is a coup if we get a five star.

I dont hate Kelly any more. The only thing I can really fault him for is his inability to recruit or raise up an elite QB. If you replace Book with a Quinn or Clausen last night you win. We haven't had that and Kelly's scheme will only be as good as the athletes running it.

I hate to settle, I was sick to my stomach for a game where defeat was once again snatched from the jaws of victory but it is what it is. The university is fine with the fact that our signature wins have actually been close losses.

Another post from the jackass of the board.

Yeah, but the logic is correct. He gets paid to beat these teams and he never does. And the South Bend Tribune today is like a broken record. Lots of how just a few more play makers is all we need, when the elephant in the room is how poor our highly recruited offensive line play is.

Honestly, I settle because it's better for my health and well-being. It's kind of funny, but I'm absolutely serious. My last checkup with my doctor wasn't so good, and one of the three things my doctor told me to do was to get rid of any unnecessary stress

It's just the stress and nerves before a big game (and I'm not even playing!), and then getting distressed over bad plays or losses. Honestly, I'd rather not let a bunch of college kids dictate my life haha

Having said that, I still love the team and school, and I wouldn't bemoan anyone who are still rabid fans. I honestly am just trying to alleviate as much stress out of my life as possible. And unfortunately, Notre Dame football was a pretty big contributor to that stress

It isn't funny at all, I had to go through the same thing. The last couple of years I have just recorded the games and gone back and watched them later and spent that time with family or doing something productive instead. Otherwise it is too stressful for me as well. When I look back at ND football over the past 15 years I can count a couple of incidents where I really reacted badly to some games and made some mistakes I would have preferred not to make in retrospect. One that sticks out is the Michigan game back around 2010 or 2011, I don't recall which. What I do recall is I was so angry and so inebriated that I decided that I could yank a glass shelf out from under some other breakable glass items like it was a table cloth and everything would just be ok.

Long story short: it wasn't ok.

so who is this successful NC winning coach to replace KELLEY? Urban Meyeer?

I think it is Urben Meyer, you spielled it wrong.

Look at Georgia's roster. Now look at Notre Dame's. In the last four cycles, Georgia's class finished 6, 3, 1, 2, while Notre Dame's class finished 15, 10, 10, 16. Despite the enormous talent disparity (Georgia has 18 5-stars on it's roster and ND has 1), ND lost by 6 points. On the road. In the loudest stadium that I have ever been in. That's the difference coaching makes. I don't think there are more than a handful of coaching staffs out there that could do the same, and I certainly don't think that are more than 1 or 2 coaching staffs that could pull off the win.

Now, the counterpoint is that ND needs to recruit better. I 100% agree and have been saying that for a while. The 2020 class right now has a 5-star RB and a 5-star WR. They will help and make a difference. But ND needs more players like that. I like Book, but ND needs an elite QB to win a National Championship. ND needs a guy like Trevor Lawrence under center to give ND a real shot to win it all.

Nobody is celebrating a close loss. But when you take everything into consideration - injuries to our starting RB and WR, plus injuries to key backups, playing a true road game in one of the toughest places to play against the #3 team in the country - then ND's performance on Saturday night looks pretty impressive. Far from the 20-point beat down everyone (national media, ND media, UGA fans, college football fans, ND fans) was predicting.

ND needs to win one of these games eventually. The near misses and moral victories can only take you so far. But it's shortsighted to call for a coaching change or fan boycott (or whatever you're saying) based on how Saturday night played out. For all of his faults, BK is truly one of the top coaches in America right now, and I would put ND's coordinators against nearly every other school's. Go get some more elite talent, and ND is closer to a title.

ND is one of the best coached team and best programs in the country. Continuity and continuous improvement.

Our expectation is to win it all. Like the Catholics vs Convict game - we socked the bully in the mouth.

If not for penalties we had a good chance of winning that game.

Who's next - that's what I want to know.

I didn't see an enormous talent disparity on the field except for two positions, QB and RB. For the life of me I don't understand why we can't recruit elite QB's and running backs. It is good they got rid of Denson. I don't know what the solution is for QB's.
