Has anyone been following the USAG scandal, or more specifically our AD's connection to it? NDNation has been blowing up about it over the past day or two. For those not in the know about how this relates to Swarbrick, he was legal counsel for USAG, during which matters involving abuse were taking place not only with Dr. Nasser but other coaches etc who were engaged in this heinous activity against athletes. More specifically what's coming to the forefront now is matters of his legal advice and drafting or continuance of policy within the organization and the possible complicity in reference to the allegations of sexual misconduct.

This story has been pretty big and news organisations are digging pretty hard into it now, namely the IndyStar, who is seeking files and documents in court from the USAG about dossiers they've compiled over the years involving various coaches/trainers and those allegations against them. Again, this goes back to JS and his legal firms time with USAG. This stuff is really becoming a powder keg that'll make PSU seem like small potatoes IMO.

Now of course the full extent of JS knowledge of the situation hasn't been revealed yet. However, I hope ND is prepared for the possibility that there may been very damaging revelations about JS role in this scandal and have a course of action ready to be laid out. I hope that Jenkins et al have discussed with JS the matter and asked him honest, probing questions about his knowledge of the situation while working for USAG. If his responses don't line up with future revealings from the USAG internal documents then swift action is necessary.

This is -at least- as bad as a kid stealing sweat pants...

It's a reach... but if it leads to a ticket to Bakersfield for his dumb a$$ ... I'm good with it.

Just wow. I'm good.

Domer Dude, I have much respect for gymnasts and other athletes who endure grueling training regiments for their sport. Obviously it's an extremely difficult sport and there are many trade offs for children who wish to follow its path to high levels of success. It takes a very high level of dedication, commitment, and talent, and kudos to your son and family for making it. Wrestling has many parallels and that is what I can most closely associate from my experiences from an early age through college.

As far as what I would do. Well I have zero problem calling out people for doing things that are dangerous when it comes to children, let alone my children. But as I say that there are those who would believe that I put my child at risk by allowing him to play football. Every parent has their boundaries. I became a coach for FB and wrestling, and have a lot of background in them. I'm intense, but I want the kids to have fun and try to coach that way. There is no way I would bully players, parents, or other coaches, and made myself available to talk to anyone about concerns they had with me or whatever. Worst thing I ever did was get kicked out of a game for raising concerns for what I perceived was a targeting, late hit to one of our kids. Safety is paramount, followed closely by sportsmanship and fun/enthusiasm. I've called out coaches, parents, and players for the bad behavior you mentioned.

If I found out that my child was being sexually abused, first thing is report it to the police. Then it would be reported to whatever school or governing body said sport fell under. My expectations for them would be at the very least pulling the person until the investigation is completed. My child wouldn't participate anymore at the specific place.

I'm more than a little skeptical about walling me off from my kid. I know there are majority of coaches etc who have nothing but good intentions. But I'm very leary and worry about systems in place, set up in a way where predators can easily have access to children and the process of grooming these children into victims of their depraved predatory behavior. There are no rose colored glasses here. I won't compromise on my concerns and will move on to a environment that I feel comfortable allowing my kids to participate in.

BTW Domer Dude I truly hope your efforts and many others efforts will be taken seriously by the USAG in order to prevent this garbage from happening in the future. Good luck!

JS is a professional lawyer in the lowest sense of the word. He's an opportunist who needs to go. I'm not suggesting he hasn't done some good for ND athletics overall but what are the options if he was actually booted? The whole BK/JS situation is a damned if you do, damned if you don't quandary.

Get rid of them and you're starting from scratch again. Then you're talking about another couple, few years of rebuilding/restructuring. I just can't shake the idea that ND is mired in a perpetual state of mediocrity and I have no idea what the cure is outside of blowing the whole thing up and starting from scratch.

Sorry but even if it doesn't result in national titles, I would take Stanford's athletic program infrastructure over ND's and I can't stand Stanford.

I just started paying attention to this story. I want Swarbrick gone, but I don't want to cast stones on man just because I don't like him. I hope he is clean in this and ND is kept out of this disgusting story. Just sad.

Agreed, not like this. I was trying to inform mostly because he has involvement with that organization in the past when the activity was happening, and so far I don't believe it's been widely known even among ND fans. Obviously there may be more coming out about this that goes beyond Nasser, USAG, and MSU.

It takes a lot of people to perpetrate this crime this many times, and what I have read suggests that the legal arm of USAG was most certainly involved, not necessarily JS. I just read about Maroney yesterday, it said that she settled with USAG but was required to sign a gag order or something similar, there is a lot of legal in all of this illegal.

He had been reported several times going back to 2000 (I think) and each time the accuser was bullied into backing down or there were settlements. This takes some legal clout to make this happen.

I am pretty anti-witch hunt these days since it is just everywhere you look right now, but the people who did have involvement with this need to be held accountable. Nasser will be spending a fair amount of time on the other end of rape it looks like, but he certainly didn't manage all of this without a lot of help along the way.

This is crazy stuff.

He was unnecessarily evasive in his JANCY ANN TORRES THOMPSON deposition and advised the USAG -pp. 59-62- "to forego our ability to suspend individuals who had been charged with a crime".

Personally. I hope all the USAG and US Swimming legal documents concerning policy are compelled to see the light of day. If Swarbrick is found to be part of creating a system of protecting pedophiles he should go to jail.

ND nation put together a helpful timeline (Not blaming or suggesting anything).

Referring back to Domer Dudes post describing his intimate dealings with the USAG and the culture of that sport, this constant grooming of the children to obey any and all requests by that body presents an environment ripe for bullying and other types of terrible behavior....towards children. Aly Raisman discusses this in an interview about how she was terrified to face Nasser and say the things she did in her court statement. That's hardly a new phenomena with victims in many personal crimes, but the way she kept repeating that the indoctrination process, obedience, bullying, etc was absolutely a fundamental cornerstone of the USAG, and set the stage for Nasser and others predatory behavior and cover-ups.

I agree about witch hunts etc, it's everywhere now. But I reserve a particular hatred for any POS who exploits innocent children like this and am more than happy to dig up the entire rabbit burrow and make sure every corner of it sees the light. Much like PSU, how so many adults can choose to do the wrong thing is downright dispicable. No job, status, or whatever is worth selling your soul over when it comes to knowledge of this evil perpetrated on kids!

Am I the only one who thinks this needs to be moved to Open...?

Or the trash bin...

The Indianapolis Star is all over this.

This is a powder keg for USA gymnastics and everybody involved in setting policy.

They are and this is not going to go away anytime soon. So buckle down.

I found this timeline that the Indy Star provided regarding a serial predator particularly depressing regarding USAG's inaction. In creating their policy of distancing their direct responsibility to oversee pedophlia, they've gotten themselves in even hotter water.

This is killing me what Jack is going.
