Very underwhelming hire...

This is a freaking joke really??? Way to make a splash with one of the most sought after jobs in college football. News flash Kelly Your coaching tree sucks it...

At this point, what does hiring Jeff Quinn matter? Best offensive line coach and line in college football and getting steamrolled by Miami and then Stanford? Is this what we aspire to? I like Harry a lot. I'm just saying, besides the paper output, what does it truly matter if we continue to get steamrolled by opponents and knocked out of the playoff picture convincingly? My take is... it doesn't matter. And if we ever want a new head coach, we'll have to weather a truly miserable season. Perhaps this is the beginning of that.

Lol keep that grand valley connection going. What a joke

I’m wondering if Kelly is assuming he’ll be here longer than just next year. If so, he may be anticipating Chip Long leaving and prepared to promote Quinn to OC. Really underwhelming, and suggests a return to old Kelly habits.

Beginning of the end, perhaps.

Given the timing I have to wonder if this came after striking out on more high profile hires.

Think you are on to something there. He could have announced this the day after Harry left for the bears.

this is terrible

Brutal hire.

See ya', NPF.

It was nice getting to know you.

I knew it. He wasn't going to pass on Quinn forever.

Quinn would of been his OC/Line Coach from day 1 if Buffalo had not hired him

If you need any evidence that Notre Dame is being run by a bunch of incompetents, this is it.

Swarbrick/Jenkins know that Kelly's two best assistants left. Since they gave Kelly a contract that runs through 2021, that's 4 more seasons, they should have reinforced their extension of Kelly by hiring an elite DC and OL coach. Instead, they got a first time DC and a guy who hasn't coached in two years and has no reputation as an in demand offensive line coach.

They should have had a contingency plan that, in a situation where Brian Kelly cannot hire elite assistants, they should have fired him and hired a head coach that could command an elite staff.

Instead, we get this.

I think it's a sign that Kelly knows he isn't going to be here more then 10 years. He has said in prior interviews he didn't see himself here beyond a decade. Long and Elko signed 3 year deals that were going to be up after his 10th season. He has to know he'll be lucky if long stays even that long. I think this is a sign of Kelly throwing in the towel and starting his retirement prep. Hell be here 2 more years and then either retire or go to another job. I feel this because I think he struck out on big name guys because they knew this and didn't see the point of signing on for 2 seasons. Either that or Quinn was his pick all along because he's packing it in. Either way there is no other explanation why Notre dame couldn't do better at this position then quinn

8 games is the ceiling for next year's win total.

Kelly has 4 more years on his contract. Why should he be "throwing in the towel"? It's absurd. He's been made a multimillionaire by Notre Dame. If anything, he should be busting his *** to ensure that Notre Dame takes the next step in his next four years and after he leaves. Who the fcuck is running this s$it show?

Well, I don't know much about Quinn or his past but someone posted this on a Facebook post. I don't know much about it though. Any insight?

"This guy coached Joe Staley at CMU, and Jason Kelce at Cincy and they had one of the best offenses in the country at both places with him and Kelly together. The only reason that he hasn't been the O-line coach from Day 1 is because he was the head coach at Buffalo. Where he recruited some guy named Khalil Mack, who is one of the best players in the NFL. He has a proven track record as an assistant."

I was slightly underwhelmed by this announcement, but after reading the UND intro and all the name dropping, he looks like he has a really good resume and track record developing players. 12 NFL lineman he has worked with.

That being said, I am curious why other programs weren’t pounding on his door.
