It’s more than just a game. This young man took his own life yesterday.

Kid was projected starter next year after starting their bowl game.

Maybe we can all take the time to remember that everything we write here can be read by someone else.

Sometimes this place can be like a bathroom wall, at times I have contributed as well. No more. Life is too short to b!tch and complain about a game.

Praying for Tyler’s family and the WSU program.

Sometimes people forget that everything they tweet, email, post, ends up getting read by these kids.

So Sad

Don't know much about the circumstances at all. Was there some motivation behind this directly connected to the fandom?

No clue, but it made me realize there is always potential for current and former players and family members on here. I know this for a fact because I have had both reach out to me via pm to request art projects for loved ones.

Guess I was misreading your post and thinking the connection was because of critical fans or something.

sad news in deed, RIP

I agree people have to remember these are kids playing at a high level and I am sure doing their best. no one knows what these kids are going through with school and personal life. no need to run down effort or play of kids. to what end? it doesn't change anything and just magnifies their flaws.

these boards are quite negative at times, for both players and coaches, and often a turn off.

It's sad news, you have to think many of these suicides could be avoided if these people would reach out and talk to someone. There are people that can talk to people thinking about committing suicide and I just wish these things could be avoided.

Just goes to show it can look like someone has everything from the outside but deep down we have no clue what type of issues they're dealing with.

RIP, prayers to his family

Well said Rocket

My prayers go out to his family and friends. I think it is presumptuous to draw any connections of fan criticism to the impetuous behind this tragedy at this point. Allegedly he left a note.

Prayers to his family and friends. Indeed it is just a game.

I almost reached that point a couple of times around that age but managed to conquer my demons.

RIP young man.

So glad you were able to. Wish that young man would have sought help from a teammate or coach at least.

Yeah, I was lucky to have a close friend around at the time. He told me once he knew I had major problems with depression but if I did something like that he wouldn't come to my funeral. The other time I had moved away where I didn't have that support so one Sunday morning I went through some churches looking for a priest to talk to.

Can understand why people thought I was making that connection; however,

I was not, just my own reflection.

Sometimes it comes totally out of the blue. Brother in law did it and we had no idea the depths of his unhappiness. He made some truly elaborate plans right under everyone’s nose - no one saw it coming...

Back in the early 80s, a deacon at our church killed his wife, the church secretary, at home with a shotgun then killed himself with it. It was a huge shock because like you, nobody saw it coming. They had other family members in the congregation and they were all stunned.

Horrible news. So sad. Condolences to all friends and family.

Again it is impossible to speculate, but you have to wonder if this has anything to do with CTE related depression. A lot of these kids are playing hard from the time they are 10 or 11 years old, coming in to college with a couple of concussions already under the belt.

Sad either way, it can be a tough world out there.

Excellent point. As someone who lost a family member young (20s) to suicide, the underlying current is mental illness. However, like it or not, but access to guns is probably the biggest contributing factor; like my family member who impulsively shot herself in the head.

Still, in Tyler’s honor, I agree with Rocket, it’s not how we should treat each other and we shouldn’t criticize kids playing a game. Even if it is ‘our’ team.

That is true. Guns are the biggest contributor to suicide completion. He was depressed, but kids that age are impulsive. Taking a bunch of pills could have led to death as well, but most likely throwing up or the welfare check would have found him still living. Then maybe he would have received the help he needed and regretted the decision the next day, starting qb at WSU in September. Damn shame.

It's not always about access to guns. If a person is dead set on this path, they will find a way. In my case it was trying to OD on prescription medications.

I knew someone that tried to slit their wrists with a butter knife. I saw someone walk directly into traffic from my apartment and I will never forget that moment. Their family knew it wasn't an accident because they knew he had issues. Guns are just the shortest route and many people don't know the "proper" way to perform that task. A deacon from my church killed his wife then himself in a murder/suicide back in the early 80s. Nobody saw it coming. If he was that far gone, he probably would have a found different way if there wasn't a gun around.

If someone reaches that depth of depression, they will find a way and it doesn't have to be a gun.
