Sorry that should read Chip Long, I don't know how to edit the title. Is there any truth to this rumor? I'm hoping it's only a rumor and Long is not leaving. To lose both Elko and Long after just 1 season would be a setback for sure.

I've seen this rumor but until there's something concrete, it's just a rumor. It would suck if true though, basically the entire staff is being broken up. It has to make you wonder after a pretty successful season. 'Bama wouldn't be a lateral move though, not coming off yet another title.

If true, thoughts on a possible replacement? Maybe Matt Canada? Hes an Indiana native and I like his resume

Not a big fan of chips. I didn't think he did much to be an in demand oc.

Now for the conspiracy theory portion of the show. Is ND coaches being constantly poached patt of a larger scheme to keep nd down? Quite frankly we are not good enough to have so many in demand coaches. An elite nd program would be tough to unseat and dominate the headlines and stories.

I have thoughts on the kennedy assasination as well

Lets wait for Tom Rees rumors

If we had a qb who could have run the offense, we would've been dangerous and in the playoffs. Don't know how you can't like Chip Long.

Should not an OC frame his (or her) offense to work with the talent on a team? So maybe more of a power running attack that put less on the QB position?

This is exactly what Long did. We went from a passing team to a running team in less than a year. This was because of Long. Many people on this board had been calling for this for about 5 years. We went from 4-8 to 10-3 with partial credit to Long for recognizing what works with the talent we have. Though it didnt take a rocket scientist.

If we ran BK's passing offense this year we would have done really poorly again. Remember the NC State game in 2016 where we passed the ball like 25 plus times in a hurricane?

I think he called some pretty bad games. Tried to force Wimbush to throw deep way too often instead of just letting him get comfortable with short passes.

Make it happen Bama. I wanna see the ND uproar haha

Maybe you missed the games, Wimbush couldn't accurately throw short passes on a consistent basis.

He couldn't do it on long throws either, but there weren't many options left.

The issue though is no matter who's running the offense, I still feel like it will have Kelly's blueprint all over it. I saw more between the tackle runs and pounding it in the middle of the defense before Wake Forest but after that it was the typical slow, lateral zone read run we've been accustomed to under Kelly.

It's just speculation on my part but I saw a different offense prior to Miami and a different one after. I say get someone like Sanford, that had to be our best offensive year and he made Kizer look like a number 1 pick.

Yeah chip long would be a big loss. If saban wants him that tells you quite a bit. But the precedent has been set, nd coaches can be taken if you throw a big enough number at them

Couldn't agree more, wow will this offense crumble if Kelly essentially takes complete control again throwing 80% of the time

Any coach can be taken if you throw a big enough number. mellow dramatic much? Some of our coaches left taking a pay cut.

kelly never threw 80% of the time. Your post can't be taken seriously or you speak predominately in hyperbole.

many folks don't realize kelly called plays 2 years at ND. The nc state hurricane game was called by denbrock.

That 4-8 team was mostly due to defense than the offense. ND didn't fire the OC during the season. In fact, he got a head coaching job off a 4 win campaign.

If chip long leaves maybe our best running back might get some carries.

I appreciate how relaxed everyone is about all of the coaching changes, but it seems to border on blase. You can lose a member or two of the band, but if you keep stripping away pieces you end up with the David Gilmour Pink Floyd experience. Sure it might be ok, but it isn't Roger Watters.

But I digress, Long leaving is a big deal. Why? Because it starting to look like there is real instability in South Bend. A lot of recruits are going to start shuffling their feet and looking for sick grandmas to use to transfer. Bama might be able to turn over OCs and DCs every year but ND can't do that. The administration isn't capable of making home runs hires like Long and Elko every year. Instead you have to get a couple Tenutas and Van Gorders in there.

If Long leaves I am really going to be expecting Kelly to be seeking NFL jobs real soon.

If the Browns offered BK a job he would be gone. The NFL does not want him.

No one wants him and we don't have the balls or common sense to get rid of him! This is what happens once again with overzealous AD's who oversign and extend the contracts of coaches who haven't won anything yet. Now the PTB are afraid of another scenario of paying a fired coach and a new coach like we did Weis and Ty. How the **** do we have one of the best business schools in the nation, but continue to make **** poor business decisions?!

CL run game is what gave ND a 10-3 season. ND started the season going something like 23 of 23 in the redzone. in the past ND would get into the redzone and end up kicking FGs because BKs teams were never very physical running the ball. I just hope the next OC runs the ball as well, no more pass happy BK play calling.
