I was wondering if Jim Leonhard's might might surface. The news that FSU had talked to him created a mini-Tsunami in Wisconsin and the fact he didn't deny being open to other opportunities made it even worse for the fan base. While Wisconsin may be Chryt's Dream Job, not so sure if Leonhard feels the same. He probably makes in the $750K range so money would not be an issue and sure the players would love him. He did a ton with less so can only imagine what he could do with the talent ND has. Likely a stretch he comes, still think Lea has the inside track, at least for this season, but wouldn't be a bad thing to bring him to South Bend. Problem is he's so young, he wouldn't be a long term hire before getting a HC gig.

None yet that I know of.

I would put something up on the Fresno State guy. I talked to some UNLV coaches that speak very, very highly of him.

Did so. Very good call, very cutting edge front reduction type defense.

I think it would be a mistake to bring in a new DC with a new scheme and new verbiage/calls etc. . The entire D know this defense, it worked well for our personnel and we have Lea who has been wth Elko at both Bowling Green and Wake Forest. Make him the new DC.

Makes sense. I'm preparing a list because Lea may go with Elko.

I guess this broke Thursday, but as of Wednesday Lea was still in South Bend.

I would Love Leonhard, but think the only way he leaves Wisconsin is for an NFL DC job, or a head coaching job in college. He is from Wisconsin, and was a walk-on All American there . He is a Wisconsin legend. I dream of him at ND, kids would love him. No way it happens.

Side note, when he played he won the dunk contest as a frosh.. All 5-8 of him.

Agree 100% - & unless he gets it, it would be logical to expect him to join Elko - who I am pretty sure would find a place for him. The job that he did with Coney and all the LBs merits the move.

Iwas hoping to get out of work and hear some progress here. I worry about the long delay with the ND admin process while Elko has Lea on speed dial

This article, and a couple others, have said that Elston was interim DC when BVG was fired. But didn’t BK elevate an analyst Hudson to be interim DC last year? Or are they saying that was basically just a title for Hudson, and Elston was effectively in charge of the D?

Elston called the formations. But Kelly knew he was going outside the staff regardless, so he named Hudson the meeting leader and the sideline guy the DC

Looks like Heacock from Iowa State is being floated around as a candidate

Added him seems like a rush 3 drop 8 basic defense haven't looked real deep yet

I thought Elko was good and all but I think we all elevated him because of how bad BVG was. We might miss him but we'll be fine as long as we don't hire someone as bad as BVG which is almost impossible.

I'd like to see us try and steal Jim Leonhard from Wisconsin.

I'm not gonna to far into Leonard because he is continuing what Dave Aranda did up there.

As long as we stay in the "front reduction" lane I will be happy.

Aranda, Elko, Leonhard all do this.

The easiest way I can explain it, is this.

It starts with this principle, "the big pass is the enemy"

Then we do all we can to stop the Big Pass, which includes pass coverage first and pass rush a close second. I know this is hard to agree with but stopping the run comes next

So Offensive Lineman are trained to block big guys, lets only put a couple big guys out there and attack with smaller faster guys.

This is an equalizer because teams like Wake Forest. Wisconsin an ND don't have to recruit as many defensive lineman.

As long as teams continue to spread out this will work well. So I think we stay in this lane because we aren't likely to recruit 12-16 Quality Lineman.

Can we hire anybody, and I mean anybody, from either the Alabama or Georgia defensive staffs and have them run our defense?
