Etling is also mobile enough to give our defense fits with his legs. We will have to account for that so he doesn't Malik Rosier us.

Agreed. This is also a game where Wimbush needs to run right at their speed rushers so our guys get the feel of winning the line of scrimmage early. Mullen ran QB power which his QB running right behind an RBas the lead Blocker.

We need to Leverage all of our strengths including Wimbush's running talent.

An undersold part of ND's subpar finish was Wimbush's bruised hand and what it did to playcalling.

Long called his number less after the bruise. His legs need to return to the offense.

This is a game that ND *should* be able to walk away from with a W. Many of the banged up guys will have had time for some rest and rehab and there's plenty of time to watch tape. There's no excuse for coming in and looking unprepared. This isn't Saban's LSU squad but it's a good team that plays with pride for their school. Let's hope ND does the same and the warmer weather helps out if it sticks around.

"There's no excuse for coming in and looking unprepared." Agree 100% - but in the Wake, Navy, and Miami games, and I think Stanford as well, they came out flat. Got away with it in the 1st 2, paid for it in the other 2.

As they took the field against Miami especially, the 'Canes had adrenaline spurting out of their ears, and ND looked like a Tuesday morning commuter getting on the bus enroute to a dull office job. Hopefully Christmas with the folks will help fix that. Which leaves the question of game coaching & strategy. The difference? Contrast the above with Lou against F$U & Miami.

What stood out to me wasn't the dull look on the Irish faces....it was the look of sheer terror on Wimbush's face.

If Wimbush just took care of the ball Miami would have swooned on the adrenaline crash.

But BW was like a never ending line of crystal meth to the Miami D and the crowd

Strength shifting, sometimes tackle over.

These formations were what made Matt Canada the sought after offensive guru of last off season.

Offset I, he'll Sometimes shift a tackle and a tight end late. Reset, put a playmaker in short motion at the snap. Here He lines it up pretty straight forward, Etling hits the H- back in the flat and he fumbles;

The shift can create both a very strong side and a very weak side. Forcing you to make the decision to overplay the strong side, be completely out of balance on the weak side, or to play it even and be down strength on the strong side.

Single back, WR short motion.

Here is there Single back, play-action set. This is one of their favorite ways to get Chark wide open. As in any play action set they have good power and stretch runs from this look too.

Spread set

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X_5BLtvrmiY? &start=103 &end=109" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allow="encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

As with any team LSU will also play from the shotgun, spread out quite a bit. This is a quick slant or skinny post(routes are subjective and called different names in every playbook), for a td pass.

wide wildcat

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X_5BLtvrmiY? &start=435 &end=455" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allow="encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Here is as spread out of wildcat look as I've seen, guy comes in motion rb keeps it and breaks a big play.

These four formations, 3 mainstays and one wildcat with a lot of shifts and different playcalls, give you a decent look at the LSU offense. Run first mentality, but they look for ways to get the ball in their playmakers hands through the air as well, Chark being the guy with the most production this year.

Dave Aranda is right with Mike Elko as two of the most "on trend" defensive minds out there.

To me there are quite a few similarities. They like to build a 5 man attack down hill gap shooting style.

He starts with 4 Down but there are usually 5 coming. He'll reduce to a 3 down line on other downs so he can try to dictate to the the offense who the 4th and 5th rusher will be. He's aggressive, downhill, and the players he has now put in that scheme are impressive.

If you are stuck in 3rd and Long, he can set anywhere from 2 down lineman to 4 down lineman and send up to 6 pass rushers, if there are 2 down Lineman that leaves 4 pass rushers to "guess on" if he's sending 6. Not good odds of always guessing right.

The short of it. Stay out of 3rd and long.

They use their best receiver DJ Chark on Punt return. He's scored TD's twice

There first kicker is 11/15 in FG's yoon is 12/16

There 2nd kicker is 4/9 in FG

They average a little 21 yards a kick return

And they kick a touchback themselves about 48 percent of the time. We are more like 25 percent

Punter averages about 43 yards a kick. Same as Newsome

LSU has an edge on special teams so it will see whether it hurts us. Not an overwhelming edge but an edge.
