Why don't we accept them? I know they're usually there in the first place because of academics but what if they ended up having good enough grades to get accepted into ND?

Seems like another way we tie our hands behind our backs. You can have elite guys step in who are already older and experienced, plug and play guys. It seems like every team in the playoffs every year has multiple JUCO transfers playing big roles.

I’m willing to bet that Notre Dame doesn’t accept any transfer credits from any junco....can anyone confirm this....I doubt a student at Notre Dame whether because of academics or wealth has ever spent time at a JUCO

Another reason and to make a Long story short if you’ve never been around “JUCO” guys (Ive spent time around a lot through college baseball) they aren’t exactly ND material....good drinkers though

I agree with the first part. Credits probably wouldn't transfer from JUCO to ND.

Generally guys who need to go the JUCO route from high school probably wouldn't be able to make it at ND. Even if they got their academics in order, which many of them do, ND is in a different stratosphere. Hard to make a dramatic change like that after years of either not caring about school or just not getting it.

Juco credits don't transfer unless outside your degree.

For me I took a history course at JuCo which counted.

Calculus I and II during high school at Div III school wouldn't transfer.

Technically we do accept JUCOs.

Realistically, it'd be tough because they have to qualify academically.

The Gipper was a fantastic drinker. Loved to pound down brews and whiskey while chasing skirts.

Who was it who wanted to know what the difference between ND now and back then?

So true.

A lot of jucos are jucos because they weren't good enough for the next level.

And the others. I beg you to go watch second chance U on netflix and you'll see why.

Aaron Rodgers! Lol, I know it's just one guy. But I'd take that one guy.

Yeah but a ton go to top ten teams and are huge reasons they sustain their success. Bama, Georgia, Auburn, OU are all loaded with them.

I hear you on the last chance u show, but there's gotta be a few who straighten out from the experience.

I guess we have chances with grad transfers but we've had very little success with those.

Im pretty they all aren't knuckleheads, but if they are going the jc route, they most likely not great students.

We've had our share of kids struggle coming out of high school. A jc kid would struggle big time.

That said, if the right kid showed interest, all bets are off:razz:

Slightly off topic but not really...

Has anyone seen the Netflix series 'Last Chance U'?

It's a reality show about a junior college in Mississippi where a lot of guys end up because they didn't make grades or had some other issues. Chad Kelly played quarterback there and Ole Miss seems to get half their qb's from there.

It's hard to believe that it's a documentary type show. The players, coaches, and counselors seem more like paid actors than real people exposing their real-life struggles on camera.

In one scene they actually use English subtitles because you can't understand what the D-linemen are saying.

Watch the first episode of the first season and I think you'll understand why ND doesn't take these kids.

We had one recently(within last 5-10 years) take some courses at Ivy Tech lmao.. I wish I remembered his name.

Hey it's either academics or National Championships....it's a fine line...Lou Holt days had some players I don't think were true scholars.

Just another of many things that keeps ND behind everyone else.

All the top teams take on JUCO players, a lot of them you see on Saturday night highlights

I suggest some of you watch Second Chance U to get a feel for what kids coming out of highschool with poor academic records are doing at the big universities... it's next to nothing. It's laughable that they are called student athletes.

I have a tough time believing that ND is so challenging for all of it's football players. It just seems that ND requires you to show up to class, do your homework and take the tests.. I think a 2.7 is maybe a little high for some football players but it is what it is.. The baseline for "playing school" is nothing..

One excerpt from the show the Academic counselor is lecturing the kid about bringing a notebook to class and taking notes so the teacher can see he's trying. the AC said that's all the player had to do to pass and the player didn't even want to pretend to pay attention. These are kids that are coming from and going back to big state schools: Penn State, Auburn, Clemson, and etc..

Thank you for the correction. I'm a distracted idiot...

Now these guys/gals can look this up on Netflix.

Great series. Really does give a different perspective on maturity.

This was also a reason why Urban Meyer left us at the alter for Florida. He was asking for JUCOs and was told no.

Florida said “yes, we love JUCOs...and btw, you get 6 kids in per year regardless of academic background.” Urban was sitting in Gainesville within a few hours.

I am ok with strict academic standards,

Where it becomes to much is

1) no conference I. e. No conf championship

2) ridiculous sos

3) crazy travel schedule

4) expectations of winning NC

You can have a few challenges to overcome, but you can’t have all the challenges and then expect to win the NC in the present day of college football very often

Great post! ND will never stoop that low academically That makes it all the more sweeter when they can pull off a miracle season like 2012 to make the title game.
