Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher has resigned to take the head coaching job at Texas A&M, Florida State officials announced Friday.

Good for him and Tamu

I have a buddy at work who's a big FSU fan and I asked him about this last night. He wouldn't believe Fisher would leave, for a lot of the same reasons most say a great coach doesn't leave a elite FB power for a lesser FB school especially if they won a NC at the first one.

Very interesting to say the least. I'm not familiar with all the ins and outs of The FSU program, but I'm sure this past season was pretty difficult given they were allegedly a NC caliber team until their QB was hurt against Bama. I don't know if Fisher got burnt out there or what given the expectations for the program.

Will he be able to capture the magic he had early at FSU, now at aTm like they hope and are willing to pay a king's sum for? I don't know. It still shows it's extremely rare for this type of coaching change, but aTm had the balls and money to swing for the fences to make it happen and who knows Fisher's exact motivation(s) money or new start and feeling under appreciated? Unlike BK he was well thought of enough to get someone after him and pay him more. I have no doubt if someone offered BK a similar deal he'd jump ship from here, its just not going to happen.

i wonder if they'll go after scott frost.

well if Jimbo truly is an elite coach, we will know soon enough

Yea I said that a couple nights ago when 3; 4* recruits de-commited within an hour of each other haha..

I can't believe how much money they are throwing at him.. at least he's won something unlike Gundy who has won the big 12 once maybe?

Also... Rude Awakening to the BOT. If / When Kelly leaves this is the money we're going to have to pony up. TAMU's endowment fund rivals ours in size.

Homerun hire by A&M. Already have great recruiting and facilities. This pushes them up near the top of the SEC West. Watching Jimbo v. Saban every season will be entertaining to say the least.

Jimbo gets Clemson and Bama next September..... Ouch!!!!

Supposedly has something to do with his son getting better care in Houston, or at least being closer to that same care.

Agree. What's he got to lose though? He won a natty which places him above a lot of coaches. If he doesn't have it in him, then he still walks away with more money than I'll ever make in a lifetime. He could outright retire, be an analyst, or do nothing and never have to worry again. Must be rough lol.

Yes and no. I mean this is the money to get a proven NC in hand coach to leave another elite football school. It's pretty unprecedented, I think Johnny Majors leaving Pitt for Tennessee after winning a NC was the last time it happened. There just aren't many NC coaches laying around and feeling unprotected and underpaid by the school they won for.

Les Miles is a NC coach, and there are a lot of debates how good he is, but he's not going to pull down this type of money. He's not being lured away by anyone since he's not coaching.

If anything ND has been extraordinarily stupid in extensions etc to secure coaches we already had under multi-year contacts, and hadn't won a natty yet. All because we were afraid said coach would be lured away from us after exhibiting a sliver of success in their first few years. For having such a highly esteemed business school our administration make really dumb business decisions IMO.

Hear dit said on the radio today that TA&M's endowment is only behind Yale and Harvard, for what it is worth. Probably true, lot's of oil money deep in the heart of Texas

Completely disagree...FSU is nothing like it was under Bowden. I mean, they're still good but not like they were. TAMU will be in this one for 7 years but no way they rival Saban or anybody in the West. Take it to the bank...

Does FSU want Kelly....we are having a half off sale...

Coaches do make lateral moves. It's not common but also not unheard of.

I guess Arkansas is going to go after Gus Malzahn now.

I think we could have gotten Stoops instead of Kelly. We just would not budge at all on anything. You are just not going to get a top coach with that arrogance. It gets you coaches like Kelly, Weis and Ty.

Good times.

It doesn't seem to happen often this is extremely rare

He finally faced a situation coach Kelly has faced at ND multiple times: his starting QB going down.

Don't know anything about their back-up but he has to have been more athletic than Tommy Rees but Rees won more ball games at the helm than FSU did this year and FSU had an easier schedule.

Not really a believer in Fisher when he doesn't have a 5 star at every position...

We can only hope...

To me this is saying elite coaches see A&M as a better job than ND. I just can't picture an elite coach leaving somewhere for South Bend.

He won 10+ games in 6 of his 8 seasons (wouldn't that be nice for ND). He won a National Title in '13 and made a CFP appearance in '14. FSU also won the Orange Bowl twice in '12 and '16. Lost in the Peach Bowl in '15.

In no way am I comparing Jimbo to Saban. But he will be able to recruit really really well in Texas and the south due to his time at FSU. A&M has deep pockets and is obviously willing to spend whatever it takes to be competitive.

They will be behind Bama, but should be right there with LSU (under Oregon who is not a great coach) and Auburn (especially if Malzahn leaves).
