Almost every season, his teams appear(in my novice opinion) to be playing their worst ball in November. Do you believe this true and if so, why?

Featured Replies

It's interesting - in his first three seasons, I would say his teams performed better than they did the previous two months (or arguably the same - 2011).

2010: Performed way better. Entered November 4-5, then went 3-0 (beat #15 Utah, Army, and USC in LA (which snapped the Trojans 9-game win streak).

2011: Performed better or at least the same. Entered November 5-3, then went 3-1 (beat Wake Forest, Maryland, and Boston College; lost to Stanford in Palo Alto).

2012: Played better overall in November, with the exception of the Pitt game. 8-0, then went 4-0 with wins over Pitt (3 OT), Boston College, Wake Forest, and USC.

2013 was just a weird year. 6-2 going into November, then went 2-2 (wins over Navy and BYU; losses at Pitt and at Stanford).

But the last three seasons, ND has been much worse in November. I think it's a combination of a ton of injuries ('14), poor S&C and poor coaching ('15 and '16).

2014: 6-1 entering November, then finished 1-5 (win over Navy, losses to Arizona State, Northwestern, Louisville and USC).

2015: 7-1 entering November, then went 3-1 (wins over Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Boston College; loss at Stanford).

2016: 3-5 entering November, then went 1-3 (win over Army; losses to Navy, Virginia Tech, and USC).

The last three seasons to me come down to injuries ('14, less so '15), and then just being a bad team ('16).

The 2014 was a shell of itself due to all of the injuries. The 2015 team had some injuries, but I think it was more they were a team playing with fire all season (close wins) and it caught up to them. The 2016 team was just a really bad team (in case anyone forgot).

I have no idea what to make of this year's team. I was very confident after the USC and NC State wins, but these last three weeks have been bizarre. I have no idea what to expect next weekend. I think ND is more banged up then people realize (Wimbush, Adams, Williams, Morgan, Watkins). Having said that, I still think Stanford is a very winnable game. Finish 10-2, then get a solid 5-5 weeks to rest and heal for a NY6 Bowl.

It’s funny that a win is treated like a loss on these boards. Beating Navy by 7 is considered fading. Wake Forest beat a strong ncst team, but beating WF wasn’t considered to be good as well. A close win against Stanford will bring out endless BK needs to go posts.

No team is as good ND fans think their team should be.

When you consider that UCF and Temple beat Navy by more, it seems reasonable to me that fans are dissapointed at us squeaking by them at home.

Oh for Chrissakes, we beat a team we always struggle with, who views us their Championship game and always brings their best when playing us. Lord you are just sour. Take the win and do your best to believe we will beat Stanford next week and get a prime spot in a New Years 6 which wasn't foreseen by ANYONE coming into this season. Be proud of the team you profess to be a fan of since the 60's.

I think our defense is tired. They have played a lot of downs and we do not have a lot of depth. It's gonna be interesting to see if we can contain Bryce Love. I have no idea how bad his injury is.

On offense our tailbacks are beat us and is contingent on Wimbush being a consistent passer against better teams. Unfortunately, against Georgia and Miami he was not up to the task. Stanford's defense is not as good as Georgia or Miami, but Brian Kelly's track record on the coast's has not been good against good teams. So, I expect the Stanford game to be tight. It will be interesting to see what Vegas thinks of the game.

We don't always struggle with Navy. Under Kelly, we have beaten them:

56-14

50-10

41-24

......and one other game we won by 10.

This game went down to the wire, where had they not missed an assignment they had a chance to tie the game. So, I think you're the sour one who is not looking at this objectively. The truth hurts some times. We did not play well.

I don't "do my best to believe" anything about ND football and never have. I watch the results on the field.

Look who alabama a clemson played this week. Other teams don't play our schedule. They start the season with 2 a days and working on fundamentals. At this point in the year, practices are shorter with an emphasis game planning and not fundamentals and its showing.

Also, we get soft kids. Some of them are talented but they are soft none the less. Lack of heart has hurt this program for years. It drives me crazy.

We are tired on defense. That's obvious. Do we have enough left for a trip to Palo Alto? Win and we play on New Year's Day. I am worried.

Palo Alto, or was that a gesture I totally missed?

Yep, I think we're tired too. Our defense was on the field 57% of the game against Miami and 73% of the game against Navy as well as a lot in the second half against Wake. They say on the road you've got to bring your defense with you. I hope there's enough gas left in the tank.

Since NCState the D has been on the field a lot. The offense hasn't gotten it done by using punishing, extended drives wearing down the other team and to keep the D off the field. This is our bread and butter. Instead we reverted to Kellyball and chucking the ball ineffectively. It's a simple yet effective premise that many have clamored for, and actually worked up until WF.

I kid you not Kelly is the most Jekyll and Hyde coach around.

this is because Josh Adams is banged up and for the life of me I cannot understand why Kelly doesn't rotate our other capable backs in there.

We were much better running the ball when we had fresh legs rotating in there. Adams is missing his gear and not hitting the holes like earlier in the year. He needs to sit down more.

We played Navy in the pouring rain.

What do people expect, 50+ points?

Not the best game but a win. 7 total offensive possessions.

As others noted, Navy is not Citadel. ND needs to show up and play every week.

I swear you and I are on the same page on game day chats and after. DeOn Macintosh was running well. Tony and Dex has their moments when given a chance. But we force gimpy Adams to run but won’t force gimpy Williams. Just seems a little odd. Maybe those other guys are more banged up is all I can muster.

Well, our illustrious leader knows much more than the rest of us, eyeball test be damned....

The bottom line is that virtually any head coach could take the talent we have and multiply the yield....

BK has changed the bare minimum to avoid termination and probably hates that his assistants are getting all the praise for the turnaround....as they should...
