November 12, 20177 yr Here we go. Kelly isn't getting replaced the same as Meyer losing to Iowa isn't getting replaced. Team will go to 10-2, or even 9-3 and Kelly will stay. Thread has been done 100 times. Each I time I choose Chris Peterson.
November 12, 20177 yr IMO this goes so far beyond the coach, its the school and people who run it who are the biggest problem. Sure each coach for the past 20 years hasnt been worthy, but who hired them. For gosh sake we had Saban wrapped up when he was at LSU, but the deal was nixed by the PTB before it could be put to paper. Even then i dont know that it wouldve mattered, Saban wouldnt have been allowed to succeed. We hamstring ourselves. The damage was done a long time ago when we decided to de-emphasize football in favor of academics trying to be the Harvard of the Midwest. Gone are innovators and visionaries of this school. We celebrate the football program like it's a dead ****ing museum exhibit to be Disneyfied as a tourist attraction. The academics look at it like a joke and wish it would stay in the past so it doesn't interfere with their agenda of modeling like the Ivy's. They'll milk all they can from the history, gobbling up every dollar the program garners in tickets and merchandise. They love the money making bell cow that kept this school relevant all these years.

November 12, 20177 yr These next two games are critical for BK and I didn't think I would be saying this 24 hours ago. It is all about how this team responds. If they beat Navy and Stanford comfortably, then a 10-2 campaign with a lot of progress will be praised and the Miami game will be an anomaly where they didn't play well and the opponent had everything go right. Sometimes that happens. Should the team drop a game to Navy or Stanford I think it will be tough to contend BK is still the right man for the job. I would then second the motion of Dan Mullen as a successor. Miss. State is playing better in a tougher SEC under Mullen, then they have for 35 years. The dude is winning at a .600+ clip while being at the 6th or 7th most prestigious school in his division. Over the last 4 seasons his recruiting classes have averaged 22nd in the country. Again, at the little brother of the SEC West. I would love to see what he could do with the resources and prestige of ND behind him. And the man can develop a quarterback. Bringing his offensive expertise and keeping Elko would have me very excited for the future if that were to come about. Edited November 12, 20177 yr by BlackhawkIrish typo
November 12, 20177 yr It will have to be someone young, energetic and charismatic. Highlight on young. Kids have to relate.
November 12, 20177 yr I would like to see what PJ Fleck does over the next 2-3 years and possibly take a run at him
November 12, 20177 yr I would like to see what PJ Fleck does over the next 2-3 years and possibly take a run at him Minnesota has under performed this year and don't get carried away with their win over a horrible Nebraska team and soon to be offering Scott Frost the HC job. I understand you said a couple of years but he has much to prove in the B10 and will be a litmus test when they play WI in the season finale. Pull an upset on their home field, might be a momentum builder but he has proven to be mediocre this year with a talented roster...by MN standards.
November 12, 20177 yr BK isn’t going anywhere and this was not his fault...this was not scheme or preparation... This was one team having elite athletes and the other having good athletes.
November 12, 20177 yr Dan Mullen or Bob Stoops are both realistic and far superior to big game Kelly.

If you are trying to egg us on, not going to work, ha ha. The coaching staff did a fantastic job of preparing us for this game, and the play-calling was tremendous, if not for this superior coaching staff we easily lose by at least 60 points.

November 12, 20177 yr Kelly's contract runs through 2021. ND brought in Elko, Long, and Balis this year. Those guys, I'm pretty confident, didn't sign one year contracts. Kelly is going to be at ND through at least 2019 I think, regardless of how things play out now. He'd have to go 7-6 and 7-6 in 2018 and 2019 to have the administration think of buying out his 2020 and 2021 contracts, as well as those of his assistants. The same names are mentioned all the time in these threads. Peterson, Patterson, more recently Fleck, and now Mullen. I don't think Stoops will ever coach again. He has always been into work-life balance and I think he retired because the work side of that equation had become too much of a problem at Oklahoma. It certainly wouldn't be better at Notre Dame. If Elko is still at ND after 2020, my guess is he will be the guy.

These last 2 games have left a lot to be desired with the D.
November 12, 20177 yr Tony Robbins. At least he would know when to let the guys know when a big game is about to happen.
(Doesn't have to be realistic)
I would pick Catholic guy Dan Mullen. No more unproven lower conference rising stars. Ties to the South would be nice too
