November 10, 20177 yr Nice article. Thanks for posting. Love the frank comments by McGlinchey and the individual player interviews that Kelly did. Phenomenal offseason. Now, just need to remain consistent. Beat Miami!
November 10, 20177 yr I think it’s safe to say McGlinchey was talking about Longo as one of the changes.
November 10, 20177 yr I think it’s safe to say McGlinchey was talking about Longo as one of the changes.Considering his bench nearly doubled under Balis, that is pretty likely. Basically, he stated if changes weren't made, he was gone. Ecstatic the appropriate changes were made by Swarbrick and CBK.
November 10, 20177 yr Excellent article. Thanks for posting. "Fans could be more patient". Really, Kelly? After an inexcusable 4-8 season, I don't think so.
November 10, 20177 yr Excellent article. Thanks for posting. "Fans could be more patient". Really, Kelly? After an inexcusable 4-8 season, I don't think so. Compare comments and threads now to just after the UGA game. This fanbase is not immune to overreaction and melodrama. But, that's why we're fans. To some extent we have some control by voting with our wallets but in the grand scheme, we're basically supporting ourselves via community or screaming into the void, because it makes us feel better. There are those, though, that feel that screaming will actually effect change. Those are the ones to ignore And to be fair, there were at least a couple threads basically saying "Relax" after the loss. IMO, we could all use a little more patience (drumroll for GNR please!) but we also only get 12-13 weeks out of every year to see a product that means a great deal to us. I hope CBK understands the dynamics at play there. Also, what CBK said has been thought by basically every CFB coach ever, methinks.
November 10, 20177 yr Kinda thinking the same thing Todd.. 4-8 at this juncture and how could we not think anything else than "oh sh** this job has chewed him up and spit him out"?
November 10, 20177 yr Kinda thinking the same thing Todd.. 4-8 at this juncture and how could we not think anything else than "oh sh** this job has chewed him up and spit him out"? Exactly, that last quote is ridiculous. He know's full well that 4-8 in year 7 Is completely unacceptable
November 10, 20177 yr I really like this piece. And I also like the fact that Brian Kelly Changed what all he necessarily had to. But I do find it a bit of a jab when he says that the fans could be patient. I’m sorry, but I got really sick and tired of spending money I’m going to games all over this country and watching them feel. That’s not cheap. So, when I hear him say something about being patient. I get a little pissy
November 10, 20177 yr Excellent article. Thanks for posting. "Fans could be more patient". Really, Kelly? After an inexcusable 4-8 season, I don't think so. we were 4-8 with how many losses by less than 5 points? we were 4-8 with how many injuries? and despite going 4-8, we still had a top 25 ranking in team efficiency just because simpletons cant see nuance in a 4-8 record, doesnt make it excusable to have ignorant expectations
November 10, 20177 yr Some of you are acting like last season was the only issue with Brian Kelly’s tenure
November 10, 20177 yr we were 4-8 with how many losses by less than 5 points? we were 4-8 with how many injuries? and despite going 4-8, we still had a top 25 ranking in team efficiency just because simpletons cant see nuance in a 4-8 record, doesnt make it excusable to have ignorant expectations This is true. But 4-8 didn't come after a bunch of 11-2 years.
November 10, 20177 yr Lots of talk. ND needs to put money where the mouth is. Stop talking and better come to kick some a$$.
November 10, 20177 yr we were 4-8 with how many losses by less than 5 points? we were 4-8 with how many injuries? and despite going 4-8, we still had a top 25 ranking in team efficiency just because simpletons cant see nuance in a 4-8 record, doesnt make it excusable to have ignorant expectations 8 losses. And for them to be that narrow — that says a LOT about the team’s heart and coaching. I’m searching Google for efficiency trophies as well. So yeah, I guess I’m an ignorant simpleton.
November 10, 20177 yr In the end, the only thing that really matters in the grand scheme of things (Outside of the "CFB playoff committee") is the W/L record. I don't care if it's 8 losses by a total of ten points, a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Style points do count when the playoff committee starts looking at things but an 8 loss team will never be in that conversation to begin with. Edited November 10, 20177 yr by Irish_Convert
November 10, 20177 yr This is true. But 4-8 didn't come after a bunch of 11-2 years. We won 10 games in 15 and in 14 our team fell apart after a strong start with a competitive game against FSU we should have won.. 14 could have easily been a 10 win season but BKs caustic old approach to leading the team let it fall apart. I'm playing devils advocate because I've been a BK supporter for most of his career and just thought he was done after last year, but you put in a NC run in 12 and a collapse in 14 followed by a solid campaign you can give him slack in that his 4-8 was a manifestation of everything that doomed us up until this point.. If we don't go 4-8 last year we are probably nowhere near as dominant as we are this year. Take some bad with the good..
November 10, 20177 yr we were 4-8 with how many losses by less than 5 points? we were 4-8 with how many injuries? and despite going 4-8, we still had a top 25 ranking in team efficiency just because simpletons cant see nuance in a 4-8 record, doesnt make it excusable to have ignorant expectations In no way shape or form was 4-8 acceptable in year 7 at Notre dame no matter how you spin it. I give credit to Kelly and Jack for making the necessary changes but clearly the changes had to be made. In your line of thinking if they were so close last year then clearly all of these changes wouldn't have been necessary right?

I give credit to Kelly and Jack for making the necessary changes but clearly the changes had to be made. In your line of thinking if they were so close last year then clearly all of these changes wouldn't have been necessary right? the very same changes would have been made at 4-8 or 8-4. think.
November 11, 20177 yr 8 losses. And for them to be that narrow — that says a LOT about the team’s heart and coaching. I’m searching Google for efficiency trophies as well. So yeah, I guess I’m an ignorant simpleton. an efficient 4-8 team is very different than an inefficient one. and yea, its pretty simple thinking to think all 4-8 seasons are the same.
November 11, 20177 yr the very same changes would have been made at 4-8 or 8-4. think. Would they have though? Kelly never made sweeping changes like that other 8 win seasons, I'm completely convinced it took the disaster that was 4-8 to force him to reevaluate things

If BK gets credit for making those changes this year then he deserves blame for not making them last year. Retaining BVG and Longo for 2016 were probably his two biggest mistakes.
