I believe that if we win out (which I certainly don't assume) that we'll be fine. Things will sort themselves out. However;

1)SEC Champ is in. Georgia and Alabama could each lose prior to the Championship, and the winner would still be a lock.

2)If Wisconsin wins out, they are a lock. I know their schedule sucks, and the Big 10 Champ game would be the best on their resume, but an unbeaten Big 10 Champ will be in.

3)Defending champ, and ACC/ESPN Champ Clemson is in if they win out. I know they'd have to jump us, but they would.

4)Which would leave a pool of us, SEC loser, Big 12 champ (one loss OU or TCU), Pac12 champ (one loss UW).

My thought is that the SEC Championship would be a de facto first round game, and that the Big 12 and Pac12 champs won't play anyone good enough to warrant jumping us. I am less than confident that the committee would share my opinion.

That said, I think it will sort itself out, and that we'll be in if we take care of business. Thoughts?

Beating undefeated Miami and then taking care of Navy and Stanford would be very hard for the committee to ignore no matter what else happens

Win out and there is zero chance we are out. No chance. Nada.

Too much money attached to our program.

100% - I am really tired of hearing people over-react to this hypothetical..

No way Clemson or Miami jumps us if we beat the common opponent, or the head to head contest. Stop worrying PaddyO and get some sleep dude.

All is well if we win out.

If we win out we are in easy, defeating Miami, Stanford and Michigan State on the road speaks volumes. Wisconsin is not a lock, their schedule is garbage and the Big 10 has proven to be weak this year. The Big 12 continues to play no D and is a weak conference. I wouldn't be suprised if the 4 current teams who are in, stay in, they are the 4 best teams IMO.

I agree that ND is in if they win the rest of their games.

But...

Sure would be sweet IF:

Oklahoma beats TCU this week, then TCU beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship.

Michigan State beats Wisconsin in the Big 10 championship.

USC wins the PAC 12.

Miami wins the ACC.

Crazy, of course. But not out of the realm of possibility.

In that scenario ND would have beaten three of the power 5 conference champions.

TCU and Oklahoma would have eliminated the Big 12 from any consideration whatsoever.

Here is an underrated potential stat. ND could play 4 of the 5 conference champs this year

Big 10-MSU

SEC - UGA

ACC- Miami

Pac 12 - USC

The Big Tem and the Pac-12 are out.

Ohio State’s loss at Iowa killed that entire conferenxe.

In said it before but if Notre Dame wins out they are a LOCK!

How we win matters. If we give up a bunch of points to Miami and navy then it’s going to be interesting the final week if were still undefeated.

The only way I see the big ten getting in is if Wisconsin wins out which they could. I'm still not convinced they'd be in over nd even at 13-0 but I wouldn't put it completely off the table

Wisconsin won't win the Big 10. They are garbage and will get smoked by OSU who most likely will win their division.

Win and we are in...bottom line...Irish ain’t getting bumped.

I hope this is the case, it would have been nice if BVG didn't blow Stanford in 2015 and we could have found out then.

I do agree with the op though, however the Pac 12 is too weak so it would be us vs one loss OU or TCU. The chances of the Big 12 winner having one loss is pretty slim however.

I get why 2015 ND would have been left out. They would have only had 2 ranked wins and not looked very good in many of their wins.

This year, ND is going to have 3-5 ranked wins and has looked dominant in almost every win.

Two entirely different situations.

I totally get that and that BC win didn't help. We are blowing teams out now and we didn't do that in 15. If were basing everything on the premise that ND is too big of a money draw to be left out then it makes you wonder if we won the Stanford game.

Who is the other 1 loss team(right now) that jumps us?

You guys are wasting server space stressing over this hypothetical

Oklahoma is the only team with a resume worthy of discussing whether or not they're better than us, but with OSU declining that win doesn't look as good and their loss at home to Iowa State looks really bad as Iowa state has 3 losses and counting.

No ****ing way we are left out. Mods lock this **** down

If ND wins out and doesn’t make it then weird **** happened

Win out and there is zero chance we are out. No chance. Nada.

I do wonder if this plays a role honestly. Frankly, I don't think so. The playoff is going to bring in an absurd amount of money whomever is in it. Obviously, the ND brand helps a lot, but I feel it wouldn't trump a more deserving team. Just my thoughts.

Was just watching tonight's CFB Live show and while neither UGA, Bama, or ND got much talk time, they did say something interesting: The committee is trying to create the best matchups for the playoff. And in that respect, "brand" may not factor in but if ND continues to win and show they are a complete team, beating ranked opponents along the way, they're in. They (will) match up with anyone if they end at 11-1.

Another thing they said that I had to eyeroll at - "the committee often forgives a team laying an egg at some point." So, if you're willing to look past Clemson going down to Syracuse and, the subject of that comment, UW's loss to ASU - neither of those losses are in the same galaxy as ND getting beat by 1 point to UGA. So, the comment wasn't necessarily untrue, but in context, it was interesting. And maybe he was just talking about the #4 spot and that's all, but it was a good talking point and, IMO, only makes ND's case stronger*

*Again, only if we win out.

NOOOOOOOO.

You beat a top 10 team on the road, you beat a.....top 10 team on the road. By 1, by 10, by 30....it don't matter (obviously 30 is a STATEMENT, but still a quality win is a quality win).

Just look at UGA - everyone talks about their win on the road at ND. How much did they win by again???

I havent watched much of any miami besides a little of the VT game.. They looked good, but how good is VT when they play away from home. Irish just have to stick to what they do best and Wimby is throwing the ball better and Chase is now a GOD, give him the rock!!!!
