I completely agree with some of the statements made in other threads that we threw the ball way to much against Wake and should have stayed with our running identity. My question is, was this by design? I believe yes. This allowed Wimbush to basically get more "practice" throwing the ball in a live game setting. I feel this is invaluable to a young inexperienced QB. I maybe just hoping on hope that we are not going back to a throwing offense, but nothing, to this point in the season, has showed that we will not impose our will running when we need to. Agree? Disagree?

I think they have an attacking defense that makes a lot of tackles for loss (#1 Nationally)

I think early, they were playing a defense designed to make Wimbush beat them. It was single man coverage early on and they were going to stay with it until ND proved they could throw it.

Once they did, they had to go back into some 2 high safety looks, then ND started making some headway running the ball.

I agree. It was practice for wimbush. Brandon won't be able to run at will against miami's athletes. For us to get to the next level, we have to ne able to throw.

Adams gets banged up every game. Williams is a shadow of himself due to injuries.neither jones or mcintosh have breakaway speed. It's time to find some playmakers beyond the backfield. Smythe, claypool and stepherson is a good start.

I will actually take the opposing side here. I think this was a HUGE confident boost for Wimbush. I believe it was mentioned last week that Wimbush knows what the talking heads are saying about him (he cant throw, blah blah, Notre Dame has no passing game). He threw very well today even with a few dropped plays that would have added to his stat line. ND did not need to use their strength (which is our run game) to beat Wake Forest and ND put up BIG offensive numbers with this gameplan. I like it.

Having said that: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE THE WR SCREEN OUT OF THE PLAYBOOK. I do not care what the football experts say about why they do not work. I care that IT DOES NOT WORK, at least not for Notre Dame. Dear god, that play on its own ruined the first drive. When I see them start a WR screen, I expect a loss of 2 yards or an incomplete pass. I already mentally prepare myself for the next down where, at best, had an incomplete pass.

Adams showed just how valuable he is. If he had 25 carries then I think we win by 35.

Dex is clearly injured. Shut him down.

He ran all over USC's athletes. He is lighting fast and a superior athlete to most guys on the field. I see no reason he doesn't go off for another 100+ on the ground next Saturday.

Bingo! And it worked pretty well, I'd say -- 710 yards.

100% this...I was going to make an entire thread about this hahaha

Those guys from the south just play faster. When we played georgia, wimbush was unable to run and threw the ball a ton. That's why i feel they let him air it out against wake. Preparation for a fast D. Hopefully chase gained a lot of confidence and help improve the pass game.

I agree that Georgia played much faster than Winbush was used to or expected. He could not outrun them like he has with other teams. That being said, it was only his second start and I do not think that the playcalling helped him out as much as it could have. Winbush has improved as has the receiving corp since that game.

over 700 yards of offense (with multiple dropped passes)

in the rain

and we still have goons complaining.

guess im no longer shocked :bowl:

We really miss Josh Adams. Earlier in the season, I felt like a lot of the holes our O Line paved any back could run through, but after seeing the fall off with him not in the game, namely when we parted the sea for Dex and he basically limped his way to getting tackled, I realized how big it is for us to have a healthy Josh Adams. Deon is obviously a solid #2 option right now, but we left at least an easy TD on the board that completely changes the complexion of the game instead of letting Wake hang around by a slim 3 score disadvantage.

We rushed for 370 yards or something close to that without our starting running back and our qb for Quarter.

Yes we really added to the total late in the game, but when Wimbush went down he accounted for half(maybe more) of our teams rushing yards.. Not a strong testament when your rushing comes from broken plays and not by owning the LOS which we didn't do early.

I like to watch the game and see how the momentum ebbs and flows. I value the eye test over the stat box.

We bust the big run that Dex limps on and it's game over I think would have been a 4 score lead and there would be no clawing back in the game on Wake's part. It changes play calling, and demoralizes your opponent.

Stats are like bikini’s..... they reveal a lot, but they don’t show everything.

Georgi and Miami are not on remotely the same level.

You have to develop your weaknesses against a team like Wake. That said, the deep ball was there all day long if Wimbush could hit it and if our guys could go up and get it. We did just fine. I don't understand why there is soooo much worrying. In the end, it's just football.

Being in the medical field made my mind wonder in a direction I’m not sure you intended. It’s wasnt pretty.
