Here's the deal. This board at one time was incredibly vibrant. Some days had 100's of posts and dozens of discussions going on. Some of the posters from that era have moved on, so we need some new blood to re-energize this board.

So take this as an invitation to anyone who has lurked for a while or just joined to make a post. Heck, go crazy and start your own thread. On whatever topic you want. Nothing is out of bounds.

Better still, find your niche and start contributing on a regular basis. We have guys who know X's and O's (Faith), recruit experts (BigHead and Vegas), super fans (Oklahoma and Hawaii), historical experts (Frankus), protagonists, antagonists, quipsters, etc. etc. etc. That's what makes the board great. Share what you know!! Share what you love! Who knows what interest you have that someone else will chime in on.

Yes, you might have someone respond in an offensive way. Welcome to the internet. But to some degree, that's what makes the board fun. Different personalities. Different opinions. It's almost always in a loving, brotherly way and shouldn't put you off and when it's not, the moderators handle it quickly.

Another thing, your post might be dumb. Like real dumb. But just remember, I once called for a lifetime contract for VanGorder. So rest assured, no matter what you post, it won't be the dumbest thing ever posted on the board!!

Anyway, have at it! Post something on this thread. Give us your thoughts on the season, on a player, on a play, on the stadium, make it a free for all. Start a thread with a question or comment.

ND is 7-1 and fighting for the playoffs, let's get this board rocking again!

I second this!

1. Facebook has changed the dynamics in sports fanship engagement

2. Quite a few of us don’t know x’s & o’s & simply enjoy the entertainment, thus:

a) we don’t wanna sound like dumbasses

b) we soak in others input, ideas

3. There were a few years of demeaning & dehumanizing jackas$ replies & comments. I think i came here around ‘05 & almost left a few times. Seems better now

4. There are threads started by ppl who rarely start threads that go completely unreplied. I know I’ve personally posted some that I ended up deleting. Like when I asked about planning my trip to BC this fall. Not a single reply & I refuse to believe nobody on this page has been to Boston. It was up for quite a while. I think i ended up deleting it

Thanks for the invitation. I’ll have to engage more since I feel like I’m constantly refreshing this and recruiting page to read the new thoughts/opinions.

Great feedback, thanks. I agree there was a dark period where every thread turned into a crapfest. That does seem to happen less now.

Some threads do go unreplied to, but I don't think that has anything to do with new vs. old or known vs unknown posters. I post as much as anyone and I've started 3 threads that got 0 replies in the last month. Sometimes that just happens, don't let it discourage you.

I understand about not wanting to sound dumb. As I said, I've sounded dumb plenty of times. I also understand some people do like to just lurk and read. I'm not trying to force anyone to post, but it would be nice to have a new wave of regular contributors to keep things active.

Here's a question for you. Which is more enjoyable and why, this ND football season or your favorite fly fishing trip?

That sucks. I always try to respond if I can. Just to keep a thread going in case someone missed it that day. Although I’ve never been to Boston. Only been to Washington D.C. -which I’ll never go back. A little too rude for my liking.

Good thread Cory. I read almost every post and very rarely reply but I appreciate all the contributors. Definitely some posters with some dark energy for awhile but isn’t that just life?

Awesome!

Over 1,000 is hardly "rarely". Thanks for your contribution as well.

:Waits for Rocketan to chime in on a Sligo post:

I have posted some here and generally have had good feedback and I am very happy that politics pretty much stays in the general topics section. I have become a better ND fan and football fan in general because of you guys. I am from the Region but relocated to Tampa 20 years ago and this board surely helps me stay in contact with Irish news and engage/listen to water cooler talk. So I am the lurker who occasionally posts and its nice to get the welcome. And I do enjoy the posts from College footballs best fans. Thanks guys.

I came around that time to Corysold. I think the mantra was "Read More Post Less" as to not dilute the board with mindless drivel. I actually try not to post due in fact to that training. I will try harder though.

Would love to hear more from you!

How would you compare your coaching style of your kids to 2017 Brian Kelly?

If I didn't post mindless drivel, I'd have about 12,000 fewer posts. No drivel is too mindless for this board.

Has the 2017 Irish running attack inspired you in your running this year?

Knees cant handle the running like 2lakes does. I do stationary bike now for my cardio. Still try and run a couple miles a week though.

Consider me impressed Cory.

Seriously, I like it when I have a ton of unread threads to go through

The only time I don't respond is when I feel I have nothing to add, or do not have the knowledge to add anything substantial

It does match my old school banner Rocket made for me a couple years ago though. Love the smash mouth run game and the big uglies getting it done on the line.

On of my first memories as a kid was back in the early 80s. Faust had an Offinsive Coord. that lived in a subdivision near my home. He would have BBQ's for some of the team. Alan Pinkett was there and was pretty cool with all the neighborhood kids. Made me a fan of his for life.

Put it this way, if the Irish are playing good & hard, I plan flyfishing around games. HDTV & DVR are used if the Irish are mediocre. Since ‘05, we’ve had 4 more children on top of the 3 children born before ‘05. Their sports activities consume a lot of time & the 7 yr old boy has a bug for fishing trout. He’s also in the early stages of hunting interest. Oldest One (21) in college. She’s to become a special ed teacher, 2nd oldest (18) is a senior in high school, soccer player & just got accepted into the collge she’s been praying to be accepted at (west tex a&m) to become a military/vet psych. 3rd daughter (13) is holding 4.3 gpa & excellent vball player with serious aspirations at attending ND (her homework alone is time consuming, thank God vball season is over!), 4th daughter plays town & club soccer & traveling around southern colorado/new mex is no joke. 5th daughter is simply playing town basketball (Thank God again), oldest boy plays town baseball, taekwondo (nice and local), but wrestles peewee & travels throughout colorado. #7 & youngest boy is only 4 & has down syndrome. Huge sports fan, LOVES sports. He’s very active as you can imagine him having tons of siblings & cousins constantly around. He loves baseball mostly and tries hard to bat. He can throw damned good, but if mom lets him play any sport, it’ll most likely be soccer

So, with that & even though i live near great flyfishing spots, flyfishing is a concentrated effort to get out & do! Lol

This is the most terrifying post I've ever read.

I have six kids, all 10 and under. I feel like I have no time right now and you are implying it is only going to get worse. Thanks for ruining my day!

I wonder how many kids find their favorite player that way, from some interaction as a kid. Josh Adams gave two of my boys a high five during the player walk on Saturday and that's all they can talk about.

Awesome!

I was at the game on Saturday and there was a flyover. How do the logistics of that work for them to be able to hit the stadium at the exact right second? I imagine that is useful in real world action, how is it used?

I can’t speak for how the fighters do it exactly but I’d imagine it is the same as to what we’ve used in the 53 or 22. Usually we are given a time-on-target of when the last note of the national anthem is expected to be played. Based on that we usually have a point over the stadium and a TOT in our navigation system. From there we are in a hold point a couple miles away and just manage our release and speed to be on time. There is also a liaison on the ground at the stadium in communication with the crews in order to pass any shifts in times, left or right. It can really simple or really in-depth depending on the event.

I’ve only done one to the noon formation at the Academy and did a return to target to land on the terrazzo after. The best one I’ve seen, of course I’m biased, is the CV-22 flyover for the Packers game last year. I know those guys went and practiced it the day prior to get it just right. (Both are on YouTube)

From an assault platform perspective it doenst change too much in the real world. We just don’t have the liaison on the ground.

Well at least I got to talk flying a little bit. Much better than flying a desk. Curse of career progression I suppose.

On a different topic, I will say ND football and this site (when I found it) has always given me a small taste of home since I left the area back in ‘99. I was the lone cadet (at our mandatory attendance football games) with a small three inch tv and ear buds watching ND football for four years. Sorry option left, option right, incomplete pass, punt was not very entertaining in Fisher DeBerry days. So while not an alum I’ll alway be a supporter of the team and the university.

This is the most terrifying post I've ever read.

Yeah...good luck! Lol

I must add, unless I’m outta town, i take my wife out EVERY friday for dinner & drinks. Keep her sane! We also escape to sports games. Traveling to see the Irish is at least an annual event (except last year’s bullsh1t). Cubs spring training/spring break & of course, Cubs at Rockies. Blackhawks at Avalanche. She’s also an avid concert goer. Usually with her friends. I go once in a great while, but must add that this years metallica concert was the greatest i’ve seen & feel fullfilled...just sayin

GET YOUR WIFE OUT!

I’m flying out to Chicago tomorrow morning to help my parents with stuff around the house & managed to snag tix for my uncle & I to attend the WF @ ND game saturday.
