I thought I'd help some of the people that wanted bk fired and think anyone would be better get started on their apology post.

He went from the hot seat to in the running for coach of the year. I love the changes he's made. To me, the 4 win season is worth it if it made Kelly think outside his own little coaching circle.

even with some of Kelly's better teams I never felt they were as good as their record was. This team seems to be the real deal. They are not the best team but they are a good team that plays to or maybe exceed it's talent level.

The pressure helped him. I’m certainly not going to apologize as a fan. Especially as a fan that lives in Colorado & spends good money to travel around this country to watch my team that I’ve rooted for since childhood. Watching them flop like fish out of the water with no competitive drive & unprepared in the Fiesta Bowl was a real tipping point. None of it made sense. It’s not as if coach was a bad coach. Why was he failing & why was he letting his team down? We could point out the symptoms but I truly had zero clue as to what the hell was really going on behind the scenes. As non-alumnus, nor do I truly want to hear what goes on behind the scenes, to be candid.

I own a small business & would not keep my friends hired if I thought they were hindering productivity & customer perception. If pressure were applied to me due to constant failures to reach expectations, I would not seek or even accept an apology from my customers. Rather, it would actually be quite the opposite. Am I suggesting that Coach Brian Kelly applogize to us as a fanbase? Nah, but I hope he has apologized to his young men that he is to develop, in one form or another.

With that said, I’m excited to see a big turnaround in the program & pray that it’s not a fluke.

Go FIGHTING Irish!!!

Of all the changes made, I think the strength and conditioning change is the the most remarkable. The change in strength, speed, power, endurance is remarkable. I have never seen anything like it. I feel like I've been transported back to the Ara and Holtz teams. This is exactly what they looked like.

After that, it's:

1. The hiring of Long and a commitment to power football running.

2. The hiring of Elko and his well coordinated, pressure scheme.

3. The change in Kelly's demeanor.

However, none of the coaching and schematic changes would have made this kind of difference without the extraordinary change in how well trained our players are. We look like an elite team physically. We didn't before the S&C change.

What is there to apologize for? Would Kelly have made changes if there wasn’t pressure of him being fired? No.

It’s awesome the ND is playing great. But we should see how things go next year without an All American left OL. They’ll still be good. But he still has to show this isn’t a 2012 one year fluke.

For the anyone is better then Kelly rhetoric. For the we should fire Kelly if he lose to usc. He's gonna lose some games but be man enough to give him credit when it's due.

I don't think this message board put a lot of pressure on Kelly and I never got the feeling swarbrick was gonna fire him for one off year. He's made changes in the past without any pressure.

I wonder how next years oline will shake out but anyone with eyes or a clue can see this is elko's defense and not just having all americans on the roster. Even on offense we have an identity. I wasn't worried for a minute during the ncst game. I knew the plan was to wear them down in the trenches. I think 2015 showed that 2012 wasn't a one year fluke.

I've given Kelly credit. He did a great job hiring an amazing staff and it saved his job.

But when you look back at last year and what has come out regarding the issues with the team, it is a pretty amazing lack of leadership by Kelly. Something that could have cost him his job. Would anyone be better than Kelly? No. But some could be.

Let's be real. Brian Kelly is now up for coach of the year because he hired an top 5 DC, stopped calling plays and hired an amazing S&C coach to replace the guy he hung onto out of friendship for 2 years too long. I'm thrilled he convinced those guys to come and awesome job getting into the top 5, but "team improved because you don't coach as much" isn't a resume builder in my world.

That said, Kelly is apparently very good at motivating a team and keeping them focused on the task at hand when they are good. For that, he deserves the accolades that will come his way.

If I have to apologize for this season then he has to apologize for six of the seven past seasons.

I think it was fair that some of us homers were finally putting pressure on him. He would had stuck with BVG and Longo until he was done at ND.

Dear Brian Kelly:

Congrats on doing the job you were hired to do. Keep up the good work. Or we'll hire someone else to do the job. We'd prefer you do it, so make this season the new status quo.

oh pls, gotta love the built-in excuses for irrationality.

if you think ND can compete, year after year, for national titles then you need to ease back your expectations.

this isnt the 40s, ND has zero recruiting advantages.

a playoff opportunity every 3-4 years is our maximum capabilities

we are not ohio state, we are not alabama, and its impossible, today, to be

what kinda expectations do you goons have?

lord have mercy, i feel like im living in an alternative reality with ND fans who think they should compete for titles year after year.

Who said anything about competing for titles every year? There is a big gap between titles and 4-8 with program dysfunction.

only a looney tune could believe our program was dysfunctional last year

we were #27 ranked team in efficiency despite ONLY winning 4 games.

plus, we were banged up beyond belief

Right, but 4-8 is an abberation, or at least it appears to be. 8-4? LOL, not so much an abberation. I think we all want ND to be a perennial 10-win, meaning top 10-15 team. And if this staff gets recruiting going a little more and keeps up this year's physicality and fundamentals? I think we can get there.

I didn't think that since 2012 but even in 2012 (also an abberation... apparently I love that word today) you could tell we got "lucky" at the right times. This year is so different. Everything has been earned and as a fan, I just have confidence that no matter what, outside of a truly elite team, ND will prevail and even against an elite? If they play their best, they have a true shot to beat the Alabama's and Georgia's of the world.

I also think - and I may be in the minority here - that losing to UGA may have been the best thing that could happen to this team. They're playing with their backs to the wall and just destroying teams, good teams now. UGA opened their eyes in a lot of ways, I think. It also opened up fan's eyes by seeing UGA fans invade our stadium and the stadium now, at least on TV, feels electric.

This whole post is not directed at you Cory, I just started rambling :)

When you have players giving a coach feedback that he's not around enough, and when the program has the coach fundraising during the toughest stretch, and when you have two coaches still on staff because of friendship and not results?

That's dysfunction. Or at best, it's very poor management. The team last year was a mess and the injuries, lack of focus, and lack of scheme college kids could digest showed clearly in the results.

Maybe it's just semantics, but this program was in disarray just a year ago.

Why would there be apologies? You can't expect to go 4-8 and not have people calling for your head. He's the one who has to apologize and I think he's doing it by overhauling his strategy, but there should be absolutely no apologies from the fans...especially after last season where we fielded a team with absolutely zero heart or drive.

So when we win, it's because of the coaches he hired but when we lose, blame kelly. Gotcha. Behind every good coach is a good staff. Kelly didnt do anything saban or meyers dont do. The reality is kelly has rarely called plays at nd and to suggest he's just a figurehead is laughable. Last year got away from him, it's pretty clear the coaching staff was in disarray. But it happens. FSU has won 2 games. Bad seasons happen.

ND is not an easy school to coach. Some of the best coaches won't come near it. But it is a great school to say you've coached at when pursuing a HC gig. BK is learning on the job and i don't think friendship or past associations play as big a factor in future hirings.

Never looked at the Georgia loss like that but that could definitely be the case. Bama better hope they don't draw us in the playoff, those teams will need their best games to beat this squad. I'm back on the BK bandwagon.

Clearly I have the benefit of hindsight. I absolutely wouldn't have offered that opinion in the weeks just beyond that game. Still stings that we were so close but I'm trying to find a silver lining :)

Dear BK, thank you for surrounding yourself with people smarter than you.....

Apologies? Lol. There is a lot of football left. And so what. This team could really only get better. The lowest point last year in the past 20 years. You can draw nothing from this ridiculous notion that Kelly has changed and that the product of that is our success this season. To believe that he is the primary reason is intellectually infintile.

Nitpicking here, but do you really think last year was worse than 2007? I don't, but curious what you think.
