I forgot to bring this up after the Temple game, but who else is loving the gamesmanship that has been implemented into the stadium?

Louder crowd noise because of the new boxes (although this wasn't really intentional)

And quite possibly my FAVORITE thing about the new stadium: The Visiting Team's entrance onto the field! It BARELY fits two football players across!

 

I remember absolutely cracking up when I first watched Temple trickling onto the field instead of rushing in and getting all hyped

 

I especially love how it prevents USC from doing their stupid "dog on a leash" thing or really any team from getting too pumped up entering the field hahaha

ND also hasn’t whored itself out to advertisements, and they set themselves apart from others by showing the team’s pregame prayer and inviting people to mass. Great balance and great message.

me too. if felt to many changes would erase the original ND stadium. im coming around to it but im still not sure about the field turf.

 

for those who've been to games this year how is the jumbotron? is the picture really that good? the huskers have the tunnel walk on their jumbotron and I've seen that they show the players walking down the stairs from the locker room and slapping the sign, do the irish have a good video of the players coming on to the field? also do they show the game on the jumbotron like it's shown on NBC?

I agree with everything said. In fact, I was coming to the board to post just this.

 

The jumbotron is amazing - not distracting (I only looked at it for replays) but incredibly high-quality. I couldn't think of 1 advertisement (other than advertising mass times, which was cool.)

 

The USC game was my first in the new stadium and it's awesome to have their band in the upper corner. Every time they played their stupid jingle when they would do the smallest thing right, our band would start playing and drown them out.

 

The stadium was louder than I've ever experienced - just a lot of great energy.

 

There was also so much space in the walkways, concession areas, etc. Getting in and out of the stadium was so much easier than before. Also, during half-time, every vendor had only 3 or 4 people you had in front of you. My only request is that ND find some more creative/fun food vendors.

 

They did a 10/10 job on the renovations. It was an incredibly positive experience with competitive advantages.

I wonder if the new pricing structure will kill the sellout streak. I understand it is sort of a fake streak anyway, but there are still about 2,000 seats available for NC State, a top 15 matchup. Seems a bit odd, but most of the seats are in the $110 range now.

 

On the other hand, I like that I can get $45 seats for Wake Forest still. Might take two of my boys for their birthday. Couldn't do that when seats were $80 for every game.

Pricing can be problematic. Of course when we put really a good product on the field it should sort itself out. Coming off last year and if we looked bad again this year, I was expecting to see the stadium lose a quarter or third of the fans by this very game.

 

Now I'm sad seeing $45 tickets for Wake and wish I could see a game this year, with this team. Instead the whole family is going to Colorado that weekend for a little getaway.

I was going to post something about this, too. USC was my first game in the new stadium. I loved the Jumbotron. Seeing the replays was great and then the entertainment during TV timeouts made them easier to handle.

 

I really hadn't thought about the tunnel and the band, but those are great points. Look at us being shady...

 

My only complaint, and this comes as I pull out my cane and hearing aid, is the volume of the music. It was way damn too loud...Sunday, my ears were still ringing. I was on the 20 yard line. I feel badly for the people that were right under it, which just happened to be the USC people...

 

Overall, a great improvement, especially the urinals, that I mentioned in another thread...

Speaking of coming out of the tunnel, anyone else notice when the ND players start running out, their numbers are in reverse? What the hell is wrong with the camera? lol

Who ever could've predicted updating the stadium would be a gigantic benefit to the gameday experience?

Just reading this thread has me pumped to try to get up to Notre Dame this year. It's a long haul from Oklahoma but I haven't been since we beat Stanford in the rain. My wife got so cold we went to the Huddle to watch the second half and Rudy was in there sitting next to us.

I'm taking two of my boys to the game this Saturday. Is there anything to see in the new buildings attached to the stadium? Or are they just academic buildings?

They were all locked up tight to the public last weekend.

I have to disagree with most. I was at the Georgia game. I HATE the new stadium. I'm a bit of a traditionalist. It just doesn't look right. It doesn't feel right. Maybe it was all the red. Maybe it was the night game. Maybe it was the fact that the band isn't on the field and is lead by a fake Irish guard.

 

I felt like I was at an NFL game. I've been to about 50 games at ND stadium, and this just felt foreign and strange. Commercial and sterile. I felt like the stadium has lost its charm.

 

It makes me sad.

I'm more concerned with what recruits think of it, frankly. Hoping they love it - fans and atmosphere are important, but the guys that run out there and put their hearts and bodies on the line are the ones I hope love it.

I went to the B/G game in 2016 when things were still in progress and worked there later in the year when it was more complete and even though the size of the crowd makes a difference, you could tell it affected the crowd noise.

 

I was able to interact with the crew in charge of construction some and I asked how much of a difference it would make as far as acoustics and was told "It wasn't designed that way but you'll notice a change".

Well as it goes with the team and what ND is usually good at, aka good defense and power running game. Yeah it was pretty good in days gone by with championships and the like. I'm 42 btw. ?
